Anyone that feels offended by words must be made whole....and even more so there is a segment of society that wakes up each day seeking out a chance to be offended....and that crowd only grows the more we placate them. |
I think it’s more pernicious than that. We live in a age of weaponized outrage. |
Could there be a space somewhere between weaponized outrage and it's no big deal to refer to a black man as an ape? |
Absolutely. |

How did you come to that conclusion? Not trying to be confrontational. I'm honestly curious. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves. |

I’m not sure what you mean. We live in an age of weaponized outrage. That doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t criticize people for saying things that are offensive. However, there is a pernicious tendency from all corners of the political realm and from society in general to build outrage. Sometimes this is justified, as was the case with the Alabama newspaper editor. Other times, we just need to communicate, educate, and forgive. |

Totally agree. We've moved too far along the spectrum of forgiveness and castigation. We didn't do a good enough job of calling out true acts of racism in the past and we've overcorrected way too much to the point that it's actually causing division. |

OK. I think same. Freedom of speech can and is sometime given as reason to support ones narrative. In this case, it's no big deal, strikes me as glossing over. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
