I had no idea he was still alive. Aside from being one of the players who broke the color line, he was involved in many of the most iconic games, series, and pennant races of the 1950s. Those of you who are Dodger fans may remember him from his presence around the team in the post-Brooklyn years.

He's typically at the games. I used to see him and Kemp together a lot during pre-games. Seemed like such a great person. |

Don lived a full life. He was 92. I remember him from his days at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. He played with Joe Black, Jim Gilliam, Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Sandy Amoros, African American players I can recall. Tommy Lasorda was also on the 1955 Dodgers. If anyone here would have a vivid recall of ol' #36, I suspect it would be you--heck you probably remember when they were called the Brooklyn Trolly Dodgers _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Don't remember Brooklyn Trolly Dodgers. Recall them as the Brooklyn Bums. We went up against the Yankees almost every year, only to lose. I think the meme "Wait Til Next Year" emanated with the Dodgers. 1955 was a jolly year for us Dodgers fans. We finally beat Dem Damn Yanks. There was literally dancing in the streets. Thanks for the memory yank. I'd forgotten Newk's number. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

until today, I was unaware Newcombe pitched for Cincinnati....always thought he was a lifetime Dodger. He had a nice year in '59 pitching for the Reds. He was by far the best pitcher on that poor team. |

His last baseball card. My favorite cards as this was the first year I collected them. Trying to get all of them as they released these in seven series was quite a trick for a nine year old.

wow, if you were collecting then, I bet you have some nice cards. I cringe every time I hear my dad tell the story of when he was a kid, him and his friends would take the stick of gum and toss the cards. |
