For the record, I wish Mintz was not PG13's agent, and that might have allowed PG13 to join the Lakers if he had any other agent.

Still, in hindsight, full 20/20 version, which Team would you prefer?

Team Klutch:
1. LBJ-one of the best ever.
2. KCP
3. AD-maybe (but costly)

Team Mintz:
1. PG13-MVP candidate
2. DLO-East All Star
3. Jules-solid near 20/10 player.

Klutch, mainly because you can’t take trades personally in this business. This is a basic principle that Mintz forgot, or chose to ignore.

Assuming we kept DLO/Jules in my scenario, we'd only be able to sign PG13 to the max and then have to re-sign both DLO/Jules. So bear that in mind.

Team Mintz by virtue of the fact that they wouldn't try to engineer the godfather trade to selfishly gut all our assets.

Lonzo/Rondo
DLO/Hart
PG13/Ingram/Svi
Randle/Kuzma
McGee/Zubac/Mo

Plus picks and flexibility to trade for another star.

vs.

PG?/Bonga
SG/Backup SG
LBJ
AD
Center

Plus 25 million and no picks.

Well you have no idea. If Mintz/CAA all of a sudden have 3 players in LA, they become the de facto rulers of the team. What if Mintz wants to "KCP" other clients here?

When I see them try... I'll add them to the list of agencies who have too much power.

Conversely... if we come out of this unscathed... I'll remove Klutch from the list... but I find that hard to imagine, sadly.

Teams don't like it (except the Lakers and Klutch ) when one agent/agency has a concentration of clients on a team. They seem to dictate a lot of things, including tying one player's decision to stay as a FA to whether you extend another, etc. It's a tricky game and we saw firsthand how influential Klutch and CAA could be.

Right now Klutch hasn't traded for AD so the so called "damage" is hypothetical.

I would argue Mintz flexed his muscles in a more hurtful way than Rich Paul did by steering PG13 away from the Lakers.

If PG13/LBJ teamed up we would be a contender.

We have signed KCP... on the way to signing Morris perhaps... and the godfather offer is a matter of undisputed public record.

It might not be a fait accompli... but considering we moved Zubac... I think it's still priority one.

Still praying you guys are right... and I'm only paranoid.

I think Mintz royally screwed the Lakers over steering PG13 away (if true). That's ACTUAL damage he inflicted on the team. Not sure how much influence he had with Jules though.

Mintz or no Mintz PG13 likely does not come to Lakers because he fell in love with Westbrook
and its not an accurate comparison either way without factoring in the cap space we created by moving DLO+Moz.

I'll take:
3rd Max
LB
AD

over:
PG13
DLO
Randle
Lonzo/BI/Kuz

I think Klutch allowed us to get the higher end talent now, while Team Mintz may have helped us keep homegrown guys but less high end talent in the short term.

Prior to the season:

LBJ, 2nd max > PG13, DLo, Randle

Still true today but PG13 and DLo closed the gap

I have gone on the record saying if we could swing a third max caliber player at a discount (We don't have enough money) that it wouldn't be a bad plan.

Problem is that it would be very difficult.

But sure... if we signed Kyrie first... then I'd be much less negative about the trade... although worried because of LBJ's age and the other two players injury issues.

I saw someone break down the cap mechanics, and we could sign a 7-9 year max, and all we would have to do is send out 21m in salary to make another AD trade (assuming the Pels even trade with us).

How can he not be included. He’s #1 on my list of players under 24 or so. Then again I’m very high on players like Lonzo, Lebron, and Magic. So that’s where I’m coming from.

So you could:

1. sign KL/Klay/Kyrie/Jimmy, etc. to 32.7m.
2. there would be cap space to send + BI/Lonzo/Kuz would be close to 21m needed to match AD's salary (don't have to match it 100%).

Well, he's not available until another 6-7 years.

If we made the trade first... I would be fine with that.

Would still miss the kids of course, but I can accept that scenario without too much moaning.

Unfortunately all our contracts are expiring. Ball and BI will get us to 16m, but I’d rather keep one of the two. Kuzma and Hart are about 1m each. I’m guessing Wagner and Bonga are 1m each too. Who’s left after that?

Unless he signs a QO, which means hello LA in 2 seasons. 😝

We have 37-38m in cap space.

The max FA will cost 32.7.

BI/Lonzo/Kuz = 17.8m. So you can add the remaining cap space or add two of Hart/Mo/Bonga.

This is why it should always have been this order (not what just happened with AD trade talk):

1. sign max FA
2. trade for AD (if necessary).
