They're probably copies of the original I can't imagine Kobe letting the originals be sold.

Championship rings Kobe gifted to his parents up for auction

A pair of Los Angeles Lakers championship rings Kobe Bryant gifted to his parents after the 2000 Finals are being auctioned off.

The 14-karat gold rings, which are being sold by Goldin Auctions, contain 40 diamonds apiece and read "Lakers" and "World Champions" on either side of the face. They're the same as the rings given to Lakers players, though Pamela Bryant's was made in a smaller size.

The rings were previously put up for sale on Goldin in 2013 along with several other pieces of Kobe memorabilia, co-signed to the company by Pamela. Kobe sued Goldin to try to stop the sale, but later reached a deal with the company that allowed for the purchase of six items.

Bidding on Pamela's ring opens at $35,000, while Joe Bryant's ring opens at $20,000.

This is a stubborn family. It's almost as if they're giving Kobe an ultimatum. Give us some more money or this ring goes for sale. Kobe can easily give them what they want, they are his parents after all, but he probably won't cave in.

If it was me, I'd win the auction and get my ring back. The money is going to my parents, which isn't the worst thing in the world, right? Consider it one last gift, and then never talk to them again if the conflict is that deep.

I still think they are carbon copies or maybe he legit doesn't care he could've asked for these items back and he didn't.

Sounds to me like the Bryants need the money. Don't know how Jellybean has handled his money (his wife either), but if they don't have enough for their retirement, they certainly won't be the first to go through that.

Kobe gave them a million dollar home even after they (bleep) incessantly (bleep) on Vanessa. Then they tried to sell his memorabilia. There's no excuse for that kind of greed especially from a parent.

They obviously became accustomed to a certain lifestyle and are selling off anything they can to maintain that lifestyle. Sad that money can tear a family apart but I think every family experiences this. I can understand how Kobe would cut them off after a certain point. Especially if they weren't there for him when he needed them most.

Imagine all you want is for your kid to grow up as successful as Kobe.

Imagine the thing that drives you away from your son is because he's successful.

They'd probably have a better relationship with him if he was working at McDonalds trying to support his family.

They were gifts. They should be able to sell it to whomever they want to. Man remind me to never accept gifts from some of you.

Yup, they can sell it if they want. And that's why Kobe's not stopping them.

But doesn't mean it's not in bad taste.

Agreed for the most part. I also think it’s in bad taste to criticize the parents. Who knows what they have gone through.

Do we really know the reason why they are selling it?

Looks like they have gone through a lot. He gave his parents millions of dollars and bought them homes and cars.

I wish someone would treat me that badly.

anybody read the story? Will they have to go through this every time the rings will be sold?

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2819266-kobe-bryants-lakers-title-rings-he-gifted-to-parents-will-be-sold-at-auction

in 2013, they sold to a private collector (a big Lakers fan) for a total of $270,000. Now, that collector is ready to part ways and went back to Goldin Auctions to make the sale."

Bryant's parents ultimately released a statement after a settlement was reached in that lawsuit, per ESPN.com, saying they apologized for any "misunderstanding and unintended pain we have caused our son" and adding that they appreciated "the financial support he has provided over the years."

move along folks...

Well, from the facts that we know, nothing supports their behavior no matter what they've been through.

1) I think they haven't seen their grandkids in ages.
2) They didn't come to Kobe's last game or showed him any kind of support
3) You have Kobe on record saying he can't believe how estranged their relationship is.

Nothing excuses their actions. Even serial killers get visited by their parents in prison.

So no, I don't think it's in bad taste to criticize them, based on the facts we do know. And we can only judge them based on the facts we do know.
