If there is any truth to what some of you are speculating that Magic is behind the "rumor" and not so quietly trying to move Walton out....
what a BS unprofessional way of being a GM. Can only hope you wrong or mis-quoted on this.
I am not sure why there is this continued impatience with Walton. IMO he has done a great job and is a solid young HC. Not perfect but learning. Lets face it, he has a difficult job trying to mesh the fast pace young core with the James pace and band of old timers. Not many coaches cold realistically blend the two w/o some issues.
Would prefer he have an older experienced asst coach to mentor him through the rough patches. Even Jackson had Winters to guide him for a couple decades.
Lakers have a chance to finally have some consistency with coaching and roster. Just another residual effect of the James circus. Show some patience. Not every passing whim or fickle thought by Magic needs to be "leaked" or reported on.
if Magic is truly a master he will release a statement supporting luke and calling this report crap notwithstanding the fact that he's ultimately the leak behind the report _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way
I'm hoping Luke works out but I'm also fine if Tyron Lue or Miles Simon becomes the next coach.
I think what's bugging Magic is the Lebron dominant offense; it's become the Cleveland offense with Lebron dribbling while others stand around. You need a strong personality and someone the players like and respect to coach Lebron. Maybe Sean McVay can be pried from the Rams.
Magic isn't exactly executive of the year. He drafted Lonzo and endorsed BI. FA signings: McGee (great), Stephenson (good), Rondo (average), Beasley (bad). I'd give him a B+. Lebron was planning his move to LA long before Magic became president of the Lakers so Magic doesn't get credit for Lebron.
His "small ball" idea is one of the most idiotic ideas I've ever heard and it put Luke and the Lakers in a bind early in the season. Luckily, Lebron got us TC and the "small ball" was never spoken of again. Only until after we got TC that the team finally started to jell and Kuz began to play show last season's form again.
If anything, Magic should be the one on the hot seat. I DO NOT trust his ability to evaluate talent at all. We'll see. _________________ LeGoat! LeMazing! LeGend!

I also don't trust Magic's ability to evaluate talent. But I think his pros outweigh his cons overall. _________________ one dog goes that way the other dog goes the other way
I don’t think Luke is the issue here, and I think he’s doing as well as anyone would with the roster and elements of the team. He needs a shooting coach, all aspects of free throw and perimeter shooting are lacking as hell right now. LeBron thrives when there are dependable knock down shooters he can hit for easy points. There are many games so far this team would have won if late game we had some people who could hit a shot with some level of consistency. KCP, Lonzo, Kuz, Hart, Ingram are not knock down shooters right now. _________________ "We are the goodest." - Shaq ESPN interview
I don't buy it. I doubt Woj knows what's going on inside the Lakers organization.
Woj does not have any inroads to Lebron....but he has had "in" with the Lakers ever since the new FO took over.
I don't believe your statement to be accurate based on the draft when Woj has had an information ahead of time for (I think) any team but the Lakers
At the time the only people who knew who the Lakers were drafted were Mitch and Jim and they locked themselves into a room for the draft. Lakers organization kept the clamps down on rumors coming from the organization. Things are changing though news moves (often inaccurately) much faster now.
Luke is an assistant/specialist. He's the guy corporations bring in to improve morale for consumer consumption. Luke is fluff. I don't have a problem with fluff - it's just that the Lakers need an @$$hole to be honest. The young guys are not getting better and the vets are truly being mishandled. Magic is looking at the situation and the first thing he sees is Luke being the polar opposite of what he thinks a Head Coach should be. The rest is pointless to try and figure out. If Magic is being forced to shed the smile and play bad guy in the open - Luke will pay the price. Luke needs to understand that Magic will not lose this battle and LeBron already has the script.
So boom... Luke is gone. It's not really all that hard to understand.
Oh... And who's the GOAT of @$$holes... Granddaddy Phil... _________________ “There are no limits. There are plateaus, but you must not stay there, you must go beyond them. If it kills you, it kills you. A man must constantly exceed his level.” ―Bruce Lee

Unfort, I don't have it uploaded, but I got a great one where Pat was ejected by Mike Mathis in 2 straight Ts and had to walk the entire court to get to the exit and he stopped and yelled MF! and other delights at Mathis. Mathis was one of those bastards like Javie who took zero guff. http://www.phideltatheta.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Mike_Mathis.jpg
I remember that year like it was yesterday. Even though we had to go 7 against Dallas, as well as 7 in the finals, for some reason the 7 against the Jazz just felt like the toughest. Gave me white knuckles.
I think Magic and Pelinka also need to take some blame for not forcing Luke's hand at hiring an experienced assistant.
I originally blamed Luke for hiring a bunch of his frat buddies, now it's on Magic and Pelinka for not doing anything about it.
Luke hasn't learned (bleep) from Kerr it seems when it comes to surrounding yourself with brighter minds. He has YES men all around him who are absolute (bleep) when it comes to X's & O's and making adjustments during a game.

I doubt Magic or Pelinka have any idea what a good assistant looks like. Are they in touch with the schemes other teams run and what assistants are behind them? Doubtful. Magic's understanding of coaches is probably very surface, e.g. "he preaches defense/toughness" or "knows what it means to be a Laker." If this team needs change, it's someone in the weeds who understands today's principles and is actively thinking how to beat or expand upon them. But whoever that is is not a name. He'll go for someone sitting in the booth who's somewhat aware of how the game is being played but not paying super attention (or worse, hates the way the game is being played and wants to go back to how it used to be played).
Woj's hot takes like this aren't usually based on a source but rather his opinion. It's no different than Stephen A Smith or Colin Cowherd insinuating things based on circumstantial evidence. I don't see Magic replacing Luke unless LBJ gives the go ahead. If Bron decides Luke has to go then I trust him. And it might be too late in the season to do that. The best solution would be to force Luke to replace a couple of his buddies with actual assistant coaches.
Even so, it’s still not the same as Colin Cowherd and SaS giving their opinions.
No, it's the same. In fact, Cowherd and SaS also claim to have sources when they start their hot takes. Woj didn't even claim his sources told him this, it's purely speculation. Woj and Windhorst have been doing things like this for awhile now.

Explains some of the signings this summer. Zero focus on shooting.
At least Riley was able to figure out that Spoelstra should have been the head coach. We would probably end up with Rambis. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.

Yeah, he is far from a bad coach imo.. No reason to fire him unless a great candidate was waiting to take his spot.. It feels like a broken record at this point but he just needs those better assistants around him, especially being such a young inexperienced HC.. Kind of mind boggling they don't have more experience around him especially once they got Lebron and it became winning time.
