right now it's
1.) most choral arrangements for Angels We Have Heard on High
Reminds me of christmas eve midnight mass at the warm churches from my youth, where the sanctity of catholic christmas culminated in triumphant hymns and hot chilli. We'd attend mass and then drive through neighborhoods to enjoy the christmas lights. I'd spend the rest of the night struggling to contain my excitement for morning. These were the only times I've ever enjoyed going to church.
The best version of this song I've ever heard was in Rome, sung by a group of boys walking along the Vatican City wall. I did my best to record some of it
2.) brass arrangement for O Little Town of Bethlehem
same reasons as #1
3.) Stevie Wonder - Silver Bells
This song always sounded generic to me. Then I heard Stevie perform it at his LA toy drive in 02 or 03.
I just listened to it for the first time this year, and, as always, when she hits "faaalllll on your knees, o heearrr the angles voi-ces," I get the chills.
John Lennon, So This is Xmas
The Nutcracker Suite _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"
That song is a pretty rich canvas for artists to do great things with. Venice does a great version of it, which sounds a hell of a lot better in person than what's recorded here:
Those are goodns. I prefer the snazzy songs, but Nutcracker is a classic jingle. I had a couple of field trips in elementary school to see the play, wish I knew the theater it was in. Posh digs with a balcony, maybe somewhere in LA.
I'm a fan of Lennon and like his solo work even though he felt they were mostly self-directed instead of universal. Love that song, even Yoko gives a good contrast to Lennon's singing, which isn't always the case. Very thoughtful concept by John. It's a song that sounds like an Xmas song, but it puts a pang in your conscience to remind you to think of others while you're all wrapped up in Xmas glee (if you're lucky enough to have that kind of Xmas...)
Best piece off Xmas music in the history of man as far as I am concerned. It's a great piece of music and speaks dearly to the nostalgic side of my childhood watching Xmas specials

The Nutcracker Suite
I just remembered another. Though it is quite melancholy and its not a classic Christmas song, it is one of Joni's best, The River. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo"

@audioaxes: I totally dig your soul/motown Christmas list.
Especially the Marvin Gaye song, that’s my favorite.
To everyone that doesn’t know. Its actually supposed to be a somewhat downbeat song.
Was explaining this to my mother-in-law. If you miss the one line, you think its just a somewhat cheery Christmas song.
But when he goes, “But I’m a prisoner of war, lying here in my cell. Wishing everyone well.”
That’s when you go “oh, damn.”
Threw me for a loop the first time I heard it. But last I remember it was written around the What’s Goin On era or a little after which was still relevant.
Good stuff!

On a regular note, I like different Christmas songs like the ones KROQ2 plays a bit, such as Christmas Wrapping of course, but didn’t know Yello had a Christmas song and such.
There’s a Christmas soul/r&b station on some of the music apps and makes me go wow, they made a song too.
Then there’s the pure gag songs like Shatner singing Christmas or other silly songs I dig way more than just the usual songs of the year.

This one is odd for me because I've heard the hook of this song sometime and somewhere, but not the entire thing, or at least not that I recall. At first glance, I was thinkin, is this the band that did I Know What Boys Like, and yep. The main singer died young, did she not? _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Kevin & Bean used to put out an Xmas CD every year that I always made it a point to get. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know
