Saw it last night. No spoilers but two comments. One, it's very nearly perfect if you've been invested in this franchise. Two, I predict it will smash box office records.

One of the advantages of living in a small Midwest city is I usually don't have to fight the same crowds and stand in the long lines that I did back when I lived in L.A. However, the the theater I went to last night was as packed as I've ever seen it, especially for a late Thursday night show.

Two big thumbs up from me.

Also go to Google and then google "Thanos" then click on the Infinity Gauntlet. Then afterwards click it again.

The last 15 minutes of that movie was such manipulative BS that it killed the series for me. I don't think I could muster the desire to see this next of if it were three minutes, much less at 3 hours.

I sincerely hope everyone else enjoys it, but I just can't do it. And it pains me to say that.

Manipulative because it forces you to watch the next movie by being a cliffhanger?

All franchises do that to some extent. Most of the Star Wars movies and even most superhero movies do that. The comic book they adapted wouldn’t have worked well in one movie so they split it. Would you have felt differently if they kept the names Infinity War part 1 and part 2?

I'm all for a good cliffhanger. GOT had an amazing one to end Season 7.

The end of Infinity War was less a cliffhanger than it was a cheesy gimmick for shock value's sake. A cliffhanger leaves you wondering what's going to happen next and excited to find out. Supposedly killing off almost every character when you know they can't all be dead was just silly and insulting to the intelligence. Took me right out of the whole thing.

The Marvel movies have a stakes issue. Every movie now has the fate of the world in the balance and I think they're struggling with trying to make any of it mean anything anymore (this is compounded with the Wile E. Coyote nature to the violence where nobody ever gets hurt and people's powers don't really mean anything).

2/3 of this movie was fluff (just like 2/3 of the MCU movies were fluff)

the return scene was brilliant

the final battle was an awesome payoff except for one awful Disney moment that had an incredible cheapening effect on everything that followed. Most people in my theater groaned

Also, my favorite cameo was from a character from a show with six seasons and a movie.

The funny thing about this will be the plot hole dweebs who make Zapruder films about TLJ will give a total pass to the illogic of this movie.

"Suspension of disbelief" they'll shout about the movie whose characters meta-textually mock other similar movies and then holds together less effectively than its predecessors on the central premise of this movie's plot.

I felt similarly going into the movie.
But after seeing it, I just ended up admiring the studio for completing the story in 2 films.
They could've made it a trilogy. Sacrificed quality. And made more money.

They could've made it a single movie. But they did sacrifice quality and made more money.

***SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT LOOK!!! SPOILERS AHOY!!!***

So the MCU has killed off their abusive father archetype in Thanos at the core of this narrative arc, but I had two questions for those who have seen the film:

1) Does Nebula killing her past self read as a too easy metaphor for dealing with her trauma at the hands of sadistic daddy Thanos or did it feel like an accurate way of depicting how far she has moved past her past?

2) Thanos' approach to resource management has always been the dumb, neo-Malthusian eradication of half of all life, so I don't see an issue with fighting back against his asinine "snap," yet he seems to have been the only character in the MCU worried about things like climate change. Is offing Thanos - who I think could be read as a conservative caricature of climate change zealotry ("they're going to take your cows!") - is the MCU tacitly appealing to centrists' incrementalism on sweeping national and international policies to reduce global carbon emissions?

The MCU seems to be a libertarian bro fantasy with daddy issues. Idk.

***SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT LOOK!!! SPOILERS UP THERE!!!***

Have you seen Endgame? Because I don't think they could've told the story in 1 film. And I definitely don't think the product would've improved with 1 film.
They'd have to cut the supporting heroes and take less time explaining character motivations for the OG Avengers.
Got to have a clear picture of what the heroes and villains are fighting for and why. That gives weight to the science fiction. Otherwise, might as well make a DC movie.

So past Nebula comes back to the future with the rest of the Avengers, but then how is past Thanos and his army able to time jump? Wouldn't he need more pym particles?
