What is our identity on the offensive end and the defensive end currently? What do you think ideally our identity should be? Some basic facts/observations:
Lebron, Ingram, Kuzma, Lonzo, McGee, Rondo and Hart seem to be our main rotation with all of them getting 25 and above minutes. Solid 7 main rotation with 3 forwards, 3 guards and 1 big man.
Chandler, KCP, Lance get between 16-22 minutes and seem to be the supporting pieces. SO basically big man depth and two guys that can function as either guard or forward.
7th in PPG
12th in RPG
12 in APG
21st in Points allowed
5th in Pace
11th in offensive rating
11th in defensive rating
We just seem to be above average in pretty much everything at this point lol _________________ “Life is too short. You have to keep it moving.” - Kobe |

Since we've got Chandler we're a top 5 defensive team I think. Before that we were down near the bottom, so that we're 11th is pretty impressive.
Walton isn't even coaching offense at the moment and we're 11th there too.
The identity of this team is "hasn't even come close to it's potential" I think |

NO Identity.
A few challenges:
• The early emphasis on positionless basketball (like believing Kuzma can guard centers) has left this team confused.
• Having one superstar leaves other players is in watch mode, like when we just had Kobe.
• The Pac-10 kid coaches (Walton, Madsen, Simon) don’t exactly demand an identity.
• Some our millennials - Lonzo, Ingram - seem to be very passive emotionally / asleep. |

This team’s identity is the best it’s been since the 2011 Lakers the difference though is that this team has potential then that team. |

No identity. You need a coach to establish an identity. |

We won't have an identity until Kuzma, Ingram and Ball can play some consistent basketball. |

So are you saying our identity is: INCONSISTENCY? _________________ “Always remember... Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.” |

Inconsistent seems right to me. Confusing a close second.
The current team is constructed primarily as a media hype tool for the Lakers FO and James to promote the each others brand with winning games secondary.
Team chemistry and wins this season are not the focus. From the one year contracts, the ongoing hype of the "next max contract" or trade to help James or the unrealistic expectations of growth by the young core. FO is not overly concerned with this year. It is all about the return to relevancy and the "we got James" rhetoric.
No doubt James is having a great start to the season. Most of his negatives can and will be dismissed because he is putting up great numbers. But I am seeing little difference in the chatter about the lack of help that always follows him from team to team.
I can only hope that whatever changes are inevitably made will have some vision towards the future instead of short term goals.
Team will likely be inconsistent next year too as they try to replace all the key role playing one year contracts, potentially fit another max contract (and vet mins) and whatever other changes they make to the core of the roster.
Inconsistent is the identity for a couple seasons at least. Even with playoff wins. Hopefully! |

Defensive length. I liked it last year when they could put a bunch of guys on the court that had virtually the same chance of defending after a pick. Even now, opposing star players don't consistently get to match up with a mouse in the house. I feel confident this year that there's not a lot of mismatches throughout the game that can't be overcome. Teams thrive by using pick and roll/pop to expose obvious mismatches, but it has limited success against this squad compared to others, imo.
Length is the key and hopefully mgmt values that, like when Pau, Bynum, and Lamar caused teams fits because they were too big and talented for other front lines. When Bonga plays, this year or next, it will strengthen that identity a little more. |

High pace run and gun and Lebron ball in halfcourt. Defense is work in progress but we do have the personnel to put it together hopefully before the ASB. Lack of Deadeye shooters. Any team that can pack the paint and has enough length and athleticism to close on our 3 ball is a bad matchups for us. |

No team has an identity after playing together for a month, nor do I think we're necessarily even trying to establish a set identity given the front office still clearly plans to make major roster moves over the next year or two. What our identity ends up being depends heavily on what those moves end up being. |
