Hey guys, i have a question for the stats guys in this forum. The other day i was seeing the cavs-lakers games and TT got 10 offensive rebounds, allowing the cavs to have +20 possession for the game (along with the low turnover numbers).
So my question is, nowadays we measure a player's offensive efficienciy in offrtg/100 possessions.
How do we factor the extra possessions some players get? i mean, is it better to have a 120 offrtg guy but with low offreb % and steals % or a 110 offrtg that gets 5 off rebounds and 2 steals a game?
(sorry for my english, i'm not a native speaker) _________________ KOBEEEEE |

The formal definition is here.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/about/ratings.html
Quote: |
In Dean's words, "Individual offensive rating is the number of points produced by a player per hundred total individual possessions. In other words, 'How many points is a player likely to generate when he tries?'" |
You want the 120 Offensive Rating guy. He makes your possessions efficient. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I think he’s asking how to calculate “possessions created”. Don’t think such a stat exists. |

yeah, something like
offrt x possessions created % (compared to average nba player)
just thought of that because the cavs shot way worse than us, but almost won the game
edit: maybe a mix of offensive rebounds, steals and turnovers. _________________ KOBEEEEE |

It doesn't exist. Usually I would just look at offensive rebounding rate, steal rate, and turnover rate since that's already down to x100 possessions per game, then multiply by Offensive rating if I were to create such a stat. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

Well, I think to help create an answer for this question, you have to specifically define the question you wanted answered. |

There are components of this is the PER formula, but I don't know of anything that breaks it out as a separate statistic. |
