Let's say the shot clock is getting very low

And the team on offense shoots the ball with 3 seconds left

If they miss, and get the rebound, the Shot Clock is reset to 14 seconds,

But if the team on defense knocks the ball out of bounds (while going for the rebound) at say 2 seconds left,

The Shot Clock is NOT reset and the team on offense gets the ball back with 2 seconds left to shoot!

This does not seem fair at all.

Shouldn't they get a full 14 seconds, like on a purposely kicked ball?

They get 14 seconds if it hits the rim.

I’m not quite sure what you’re pointing out.

If the team on defense is able to obstruct the ball by knocking it out of bounds, why should the offensive team be rewarded with extra time?

The shot clock is reset on any shot that strikes the rim or when possession changes. If the offense takes a shot that hits the rim, and then the defense knocks the ball out of bounds while trying to secure the rebound, the shot clock is reset. If the ball doesnt hit the rim, the clock isn't reset.
