Watch that FT by Fultz in the video. Yikes!

I don't know if Hanlen gives us the inside stuff on what's going on with Fultz. On the one hand, he's spilling private info on a former client. On the other hand, he might have to explain why his coaching isn't helping Fultz after telling us he "rebuilt" his jumper.

I wonder if Hanlen can explain things like this:

This Fultz story might be the strangest thing I've ever seen in the league.

What so strange about it besides him having the worst yips ever? Genuinely curious as I haven't read much.

He was an incredibly smooth and polished scorer in college with an NBA ready skillset and over the course of a summer completely lost the ability to shoot a basketball. His jumper looks like Barkley's golf swing. I've just never seen anything else like it.

Shame, but I'd place the blame on the media, fans, sixers, and fultz in that order.

Dude excelled in college with (in spite of?) a less than ideal J...and rather than make minor adjustments while otherwise playing to his ample strengths and skillset, everyone decided to jump on this kid, obsess over his form, and declare - before he played a single minute of NBA ball - that his career was all-but-over until he fixed that shot. A bust before he even got a chance to brick his first shot.

I'm sure there's a lot of people reading this rolling their eyes, but imagine being a 19-year old Markelle Fultz and feeling like the weight of the world falls on your apparently broken jumper and ailing shoulders. Keep in mind you're a young kid on social media dealing with Philly fans and dumpy media types that'd have a heart attack if they tried to do wind sprints calling you names and ripping apart your existence -24 (bleep) 7. Guys like Stephen A. Smith calling you a massive, colossal bust on national television. As for your organization...rather than protecting you, they pile on, hiring you a shooting coach, announcing they will fix you, telling the world you have the yips (which is basically the kindest way to call an athlete a craven-(bleep)-made-(bleep)), conveniently papering over the fact that your shoulders are hurt: all this to a #1 draft pick from a single-mother home that has done nothing with his life other than fight, claw, and scratch for success.

I think they broke the kid, tbh.

At least Fultz is young enough where maybe he can (eventually) overcome this.

I think the Butler trade can actually help him by taking the pressure and attention off of him. Now he can come off the bench and just focus on hitting open jumpers and running the floor for easy shots in transition. Before they needed him to get like 15 points a game with efficiency. Now they can have him focus more on being a spot up shooter and reduce his responsibilities to make him feel like there's little pressure on him.

Hopefully. Trade kind of cuts both ways. Now pundits and fans (rightfully) view the Sixers as legitimate contenders. Given the current media environment, I can see every failing of Fultz being magnified -- "he holds them back." Especially given the Sixers lack of depth...IMO, much more falls on his shoulders now than before.

I disagree. There's still pressure on him, but not as much.

If Butler doesn't fit in, or if he goes off on Fultz the way he went off on KAT, Butler will most likely look like the bad guy. If Butler plays well and Fultz, coming off the bench is the only guy holding them back, then it would be a minor situation where the Sixers just need to get rid of Fultz and find one more role player who can hit shots well. In that scenario, they'd be close to a championship, but if Butler doesn't do his job they'll still be pretenders.

It seems like the media is more concerned with Fultz than openly dissing and mocking him, and that also makes me feel like it won't be as bad now that they have Butler.

Watched the Sixers/Magic game last night to see Jimmy's debut but it's difficult to watch the Sixers and not focus on Fultz when he's in the game. There are times when the defense isn't even bothering to guard him.

Fultz showed so much promise. I wonder how much the bright lights play in his poor performances? He plays like a deer caught in headlights.

It's crazy, because he still has everything else -- the handle, vision, athleticism, etc. are still there. He just literally completely forgot how to shoot a basketball. Like, he didn't just end up being a bad shooter, he literally forgot how.

Crazy. And I really feel for him. It has to be just incredibly frustrating watching his own college highlights.

It wasn't even really a "less than ideal" jumper in college though. That could could pull up from damn near anywhere on the court and knock it down.

I mean, he wasn't Steph Curry or anything, but I don't think anyone was all that worried about his jumper until the videos started coming out around his first Summer League.

I KNEW IT WAS THE MONSTARS!!!

But really... he looks like he's reacting to some kind of pinched nerve in his shoulder or something to that extent. He's obviously not 100% if anything him playing could be making it worse.

you wonder if he damaged some nerves in his shoulder etc - which would explain why his brain lost the control to shoot

Wow, that is just really...strange.

Like others have said, I've never seen anything like it. It has to be a serious mental block or he has to be injured.

Damn. That was sad to watch. I hope he gets traded to a non-playoff team and resurrects his career with less media attention.

If he has no injury or nerve issues then he has to somehow "reprogram" his mind. A well guided shroom trip may get that done. It's helped addicts get healthy, so why not something less severe like this?
