I'd still take Machado if we could get him for something that isn't astronomical record setting money. I think long term he brings more than Harper does.

Big right handed bat that hits a nice average and 30 HRs a year. Yes he can't run, but he's still a premium talent in his prime and they do not grow on trees.

If Machado would cost significantly less than Harper you should try and roll the dice.

yep exactly. i'd roll with Verdugo in OF and re-sign Machardo.

I would take Machado but what position would he play. You have Turner and Seager. But a quality starter is more of a need.

Turner is near the end of his peak. like i said i'd put Machardo at 2B next couple years then move him to his natural position of 3B for the following 5 years or so. we'd be set at the left side of the infield for next 5-7 years with Seagar and Machardo.

We have 3 years left with Seager. If he doesn't sign an extension, I think he's gone. We won't get into a bidding war for his services, especially that he's signed with Boras.

If Seager right now is up for an extension like 6 yrs $120M+ where he lets the Dodgers buy out 3 of his free agent years, I think the Dodgers would be happy.

I am waiting everyday for a news that says Kluber got traded to the Dodgers. Even if it means giving up Belli I would be okay with it.

I don't think Machado can play second base that's wishful thinking.

I'm unsure, but I do think that he doesn't want to and would not sign if he knew he were to be playing second.

Rumors I'm hearing is the Yankees are the front runners for Machado. The Dodgers are trying to get Castellanos. Inidans unlikely to trade Kluber and Bauer.

I wonder how Kluber feels after being in trade discussions all offseason if they keep him.

Also, if they do keep him, they have no more leverage next time they try to trade him. They can't put him through trade rumors again. Next time, it has to be real.

I'd still play Manny at SS, and consider moving either Turner or Seager to second.

I think committing to playing Manny at SS is part of the deal. If many would sign here, you put Seager at third, and move Turner to first. Platoon Taylor and Kiki at second base.

What did we do with Muncy? Did we bench him? Trade him? Put him in right field? Catcher maybe?

Muncy is the answer at first, unless we make a move that shifts the infield, which is what Manny would be. Clearing the outfielders made it easier to sign Harper. If we don't sign an outfielder, then its Muncy at first, Taylor is probably in left field and Kiki is the primary second baseman.

So what happened to Muncy in your scenario though

Mummy I think is the default answer at first, barring a trade for a premium outfielder.

Ugh, Barnes and Kiki are opening day starters at this rate not to mention that Verdugo better be as special as their scouts proclaim as he's also slated to start without Bryce signed.

Verdugo/Joc, OF
Seager, SS
Turner, 3B
Muncy/Freese,1B
Bellinger, CF/1B
Taylor/Toles, OF
Hernandez/Taylor 2B
Barnes, C

Kersh/Buehler/Hill/Ryu/Maeda/Strip/Urias

Verdugo doesn't need to be special. He's a rookie. He's not a key to our season.

Here are the keys:

1) Kershaw regains his velocity and his form
2) Bellinger improves
3) Seager is healthy and regains his form
4) Buehler doesn't have a sophomore slump
5) Muncy doesn't go back to his Oakland A's version
6) Barnes regains his 2017 form
7) Urias is healthy and effective
8) Jansen regains his 2017 form
9) Ryu stays healthy and maintains his 2018 form
10) Taylor plays more like 2017 version than 2018 version
11) Joc continues to improve
12) The bullpen performs

Yeah, and way at the bottom of the list is how Verdugo does this year. If he does well, great. If he struggles, well, we weren't counting on him this year to carry us anyways.

Yup, in order to make it back to the WS, we need most of those to happen

I'm actually fairly confident most of that will happen.

next season will be just like this past season. i know this because all three of them are still on the team: Kershaw, Roberts and Jensen.

I solved it!

1) Kershaw is unlikely to get his velocity back. Can a guy like Kershaw become more of a Maddox-like location pitcher? I wish.
2) Bellinger can improve
3) Seager can come back
4) Buehler will dominate
5) Muncy is a question mark
6) Barnes is a question mark
7) Urias has ice in his veins and a bionic arm
8) Jansen’s days of dominance are likely behind him.
9) Ryu should be solid
10) Taylor is a question mark
11) Joc will keep improving
12) The bullpen is a question mark.

1) Kershaw had the 4th best ERA in the NL last year among pitchers > 160innings--VERY Maddox-ish
2) Bellinger can and likely will.
3) Cory can and likely will.
4) Buehler should dominate
5) Muncy is a question mark, but if we ONLY look at his second half numbers (.253/.366/.553/(.919), sOPS+ (split OPS+) of 149, which I expect if healthy, then the team will be fine. Also, his defense should improve, though it was not as bad as some seen to think.
6) I have no freeking idea of what to expect with Barnes.
7) Urias does have ice in his veins but I don't expect greatness yet. He may get there, but he's still uneven.
8) There is no reason to assume Jansen's dominance is behind him. He throws a natural cutter, which (very basically) means just throwing the ball. He's only 31, and unless there are physical issues beyond what we know, he should have at least a half dozen good to great seasons left.
9) I am less optimistic of Ryu. I predict he will be average-ish or hurt.
10) Taylor is indeed a question mark but he is a damn good utility player. The team can't have a player with a 10:1 strike out to home run ratio in the lineup too often, however.
11) Joc is Joc, likeable but flawed. He did improve but I just hope he doesn't slip back. His defense seems to get worse every year so let's hope he's shagging a lot of flies.
12) The bullpen is a question mark as it seems most every year--with this team and most others.
13) Kiké (who should not be forgotten) is the better Taylor and had a darn decent season. He seems to do everything well, but like the saying, he's a jack of all trades but a master of none. Unless he and Taylor improve, barring injuries, both should not be playing every day.
14) Verdugo. I hope he stays (and if he's traded, it is a positive addition to the team) as he's not of the same mold as most on the team. A line-drive gap hitter that does not always swing from the heels will be welcomed--well, by me.
15) Turner. The best player on the team over the last several years is just too good to worry about, unless he is injured.
