Sounds like some Hollywood accounting to me.

That's always possible, but I am pretty sure they are still carrying a relatively heavy debt load from the purchase of the franchise. And they we're already in debt due to previous ownership. MLB was on them hard just a couple years ago to get spending under control as I recall.

Friend said there’s a rumor Yankees may trade Stanton to Dodgers and pay chunk of the salary.

Yankees want to sign both Harper and Machado.

Paying down debt should not be factored into yearly losses.

Profits/losses = Revenues - Expenses

Paying off a debt is not considered an expense. Only interest on the debt is considered an expense.

Paying off a debt is considered a conversion of assets (from cash to equity/ownership)

Should be or not they were under orders feom MLB to get their financial affairs in order before the 2016 season I believe. So that is an issue as well.

The Red Sox have Betts Bogaerts Sale and possibly Martinez all coming up for free agency or opt outs after next season. Mookie Betts is going to cost a fortune. He's a better version of Harper. How they can keep him I have no idea.

I was surprised that JD Martinez didn't have his contract structured to be a free agent after one season, but the sox smartly played hardball in contract negotiations when JD had little leverage to get the money he deserved. And I still think he was underpaid. The sox have some good prospects in their system so they have the flexibility to decide whom to keep and whom to trade.

The Dodgers wouldn't mind a few of those players.

That'd be nice depending on the players getting moved, but doesn't really solve the Dodgers' problems.

More strikeouts, more home runs, more launch angle, less contact. He'll add to our roster just fine.

JD Martinez has an opt-out after next season. If he's healthy, he'll undoubtedly use it.

The Cubs are apparently open to trading Kris Bryant. Remember, he was always bitter about the fact that the Cubs delayed his service time clock. He wasn't fully healthy last season, but a guy that talented, damn, I'd imagine he will draw heavy interest from clubs.

My buddy who is a big Sox fan would disagree with you. According to him Dombrowski pretty much emptied the farm system of any decent prospects to get good veteren players he's the antithesis of the Stan Kasten sustainability model.

They are also keen on getting rid of Addison Russell who would fit nicely at second base after he serves his 40 game suspension. I imagine you could get him at a discount.

That lines up with Turner’s contract expiring

I cannot imagine a scenario where the Dodgers had interest in Addison Russell. They backed out of the Aroldis Chapman trade because his name was attached to domestic violence. Ditto Russell. I just can't see it happening.

I did see that Theo Epstein basically said that they aren't shopping Bryant and that they have simply changed their policy from "no untouchables" and that they will listen on everything. Still, given the prior animosity and how Boras probably won't do an extension, you never know.

The Reds just hired away Dodgers hitting coach Turner Ward. Who will Puig kiss now?

In all seriousness, I believe Ward had something to do with the sting of Dodger batters who came out of nowhere to become monster HR hitters.

@Feinsand
Nothing official yet, but source says Hyun-Jin Ryu will "most likely" accept the $17.9 million qualifying offer from the Dodgers by today's 5pm ET deadline.

Great news. Ryu's a solid number 3/4 in the rotation.

Grandal is also rejecting the QO, as expected.

I think we can make another run at it this upcoming season. April can't come soon enough.

Not for sure but I think I read something earlier that right now we are $25M under the cap with Grandal opting out.

As far as Ryu taking the QO, he'll probably pitch more than 82 innings for us next year, but on the other hand, he's almost certainly not going to have a sub-2 ERA again. Then again, he'll be motivated again on a 1-year deal, and it's not a multi-year commitment to an oft-injured guy, so I guess I'm OK with it, even though it does take up a chunk of the budget. Especially if we aren't going to go over the luxury tax.

Acuna wins NL ROY. Ohtani won in the AL, and deservedly so.
