Ayton. He's basically the only scorer on the team until Booker comes back, and even then, Booker/Ayton PnR is legit.
Doncic has to distribute a lot more and for whatever reason, I don't think he'll get as much national attention. Mavs are just more loaded.
My reasoning is slightly different, but the result is the same. I have a feeling that the Suns are going to be a "surprise" team this year. I doubt that they will make the playoffs, but I won't be surprised if they win 35ish games. That is the sort of narrative that would make Ayton the RoY. Meanwhile, I don't think that the Mavs will be more than a 25-30 win team. For that reason, I don't think that Doncic will get as much national attention.
My dude Kenrich Williams goes from undrafted to making the Pelicans 15-man roster. It may take him a few years, but dude is eventually going to sneak up on the league like Joe Ingles.
He's a definite dark horse, but he might get lost in the Kings odd frontcourt shuffle early in the season when rookie impressions seem to get set in stone.

Ayton seems like a likely 19-10 guy out of the gate, but I expect the Suns to be one of the bottom five teams in the NBA while the Mavs could be a sneaky contender for the 8th seed. So Doncic could get a winning team bump even if his numbers are conventionally more pedestrian than Ayton's.
is that a thing? Usually the ROY is purely box score driven. I recall last year there was an article that broke down stats and illustrated the rookie that simply had the most Points+Rebounds+Assists had won the award almost every year except a handful in the last 20-30 years.
yeah, but Miles Bridges looked really got for the Hornets. 15/8/2 in only 14 minutes on 6 of 8 shooting and 3 of 3 from 3.
Kevin Knox had a nice game for NYK also....17 points and 6 rebounds. 7 of 14 shooting and 3 of 4 from 3.
Good bounceback games for both dudes after rough first game outings.
I didn't catch the MEM-ATL match, but Trae and JJJ both put up nice statlines while Huerter got some productive run in garbage time. _________________ Under New Management
Trae had a solid shooting game overall for the Hawks, and part of that was from being set up for C&S 3s in transition. He has a ton of upside as a shooter who can flow from on to off-ball, but he's still very raw running off screens.in the half-court. _________________ Under New Management
He's sporting a 5.8 BPM with a .691 TS% over a very small sample size (Hoop Math's TPA is basically BPM). He's getting dinged by DBPM right now (only 0.4) despite unsustainably great 3.6% steal and 4.9% block rates.
Here's highlights from his second game last night: _________________ Under New Management
Minor alert: Trae Young with 30 points (5-10 from 3) and 6 assists (1 to) in 29 minutes in the 3rd Q against the Cavs. _________________ Under New Management
2) The passing vision and touch really separate him from most other high volume scoring guards.
3) Huerter is getting more comfortable. He's showing that sneaky defense and creation ability and finished tonight with 10 boards. _________________ Under New Management
The Kings got blown out by the best team in basketball, but Bagley looked nice with 20/9/3, 5 blocks (!), and a made 3: _________________ Under New Management
This year's crop of rookies look even better than last year's. The 2017 and 2018 drafts are going to stock the NBA with young talent. _________________ Under New Management

Ayton impressed me in our game, he schooled Lebron in the paint. It will be interesting to see if he can expand his range in the next 3-4 seasons. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
