Manu Ginobili announces retirement
Quote:
His decision brings a historic 16-season run with the Spurs to an end. He is one of the most decorated international players in basketball history, a four-time NBA champion, a two-time NBA All-Star, an Olympic gold medalist for Argentina and a Euroleague MVP.

I am not afraid to admit this but he was one of the top 10 players I have loved throughout my life. He was a pleasure to watch. Smart, tough, crafty as hell, beyond clutch, immensely cerebral.
Badass player. Aside from being a spur, there's nothing bad I can say about him. Selfless dude who was committed to winning at all costs, at all times. His legacy as an international guy should also be praised, leading Argentina to the Gold in '04, etc. Remarkably impressive career both in the pros and international play. Good job Manu.
The only time I cheered hard for Manu was during game 7 in '05 versus Detroit and he delivered, big time. Should've been finals MVP that year imo.
Only two players have won a Euroleague title, an NBA title, and an Olympic gold medal. Manu is obviously one. The other is someone I would not have guessed — Bill Bradley.

Well, there goes the last of the Big Three for the Spurs.
Who's better, Harden or prime Ginobili? People were calling Harden a knock-off Ginobili at first. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Ireland said that the trio of Manu, Parker and TD won more than any other trio. I mentioned in the Lounge that he might be the greatest 6th man ever. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023.
Good luck in retirement Ginobli(Barkley voice) even if you were a flopper.
Are we gonna pretend that the KL drama wasn’t rough?
I honestly forgot about that
As a person.. Pop dealing with her wife passing away was tough for me.. but as a Laker fanatic, it’s gonna be great to see the Spurs go on a downward spiral and despite there talent on the team with LMA/ DRoz we all know it won’t be like the same Spurs of old they will win 48-50 wins but not accomplish much after that.
One of the few players I saw who wouldn't back down from The Mamba.
Not only an amazing player, but also nothing but a complete class act his entire career.
I saw this blurb in a ESPN article:
Ginobili is revered for his electric play during his 16 seasons with the Spurs. The four-time NBA champion and two-time All-Star is the Spurs’ all-time leader in 3-pointers made and steals, while ranking third in games played (1,057). The 2008 NBA Sixth Man of the Year, Ginobili also has the most points, assists, rebounds, steals, 3-pointers and free throws made in NBA postseason history for a reserve. Not bad for a second-round draft pick.
I am a Ginobili fan, put this guy in the Hall of Fame already. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny

The final chapter closes on those squads. Manu could have played on any team in this league, but on that one, a perfect fit. I think I have him on my list of all-time greatest NBA Sixth Men:
Iggy
Crawford
Manu
Coop
Hondo
Lamar (sentimental choice prolly)
Jerry Lucas
McHale
Rodman
Schremph
UCLA _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”

Not mine, but I completely accept that Jet and many other very fine 6th men should be on someone's list. _________________ “These GOAT discussions are fun distractions while sitting around waiting for the pizza to be served.”
