Effectively I thought he would be Bobby Portis.. can put the ball in the hole.

- He didn't have good 'feel' in college, passing wise.
- When you see a PF handle the ball solidly, it's hard to know how it will translate; because PFs often just get themselves in more harm than good handling.
- He didn't shoot 3s. The Wizards asked him "you can shoot 3s right"? without working him out lol
- I saw a few Zag games, and the ones I payed attention to him in, he struggled finishing, one against a low ranked college tourney team

When a player does the whole Kentucky thing where they show more skill in the NBA than in college... it just makes me dislike the style of the NCAA game more than anything.

He's also 22 years old on a bad team getting a ton of touches. The concern was that he'd be an empty stats on-ball scorer. Has he shown passing and defensive chops on the Wizards he didn't display in college?

Yea, certain players are just hard to gauge.
But also, it's only 4 or 5 games. So he might digress?

I have never quite understood the empty stats comment. How do you differentiate a good player putting up stats on a good team vs putting up stats on a bad team? I just like to see efficiency.

edit: can't comment on defense as I am poor in evaluating this skill but no improvement in passing. He tends to look for his shot first with some tunnel vision with passing his last resort. However besides Beal there is no established 2nd or 3rd options on offense and he takes it upon himself to score.

Never saw a Portis comparison. Better athlete, movement and on-ball skills from Rui. Agree with the Kentucky analogy.

The comp wasn't skillset really, just effectively...
Functionally I just saw him as a simple PF who could possibly stretch, and score the ball.. which is Portis. Now he looks more like Kuzma skillset wise..

He played in a bad conference with an offense that shrunk the floor, so the flashes that he did show skill, I was dubious of as a PF..and it wasn't even really consistent because their floor was so shrunk.
Again, with PFs dribbling, I always think the translation is something to question..

Your Kuzma skillset comparison is the perfect comp of what he has shown so far. I see your point about translation.

Just a new Topic. If you can change our lottery draft pick of the draft starting from our 2014 Draft pick. How would do it.

2014 #7 Randle - (#13 Lavine, #16 Nurkic, #19 Harris, #25 Capela #41 Jokic)
2015 #2 Dlo - (#4 Kristap, #11 Turner, #13 Booker)
2016 #2 BI - (#7 Murray, #11 Sabonis, #27 Paskal, #29 Dejounte)
2017 #2 Ball - (#3 Tatum, #5 Fox, #7 Markkanen, #13 Donovan)

Jokic, Booker, Paskal, Fox

I can see them holding out Zion until next season where he can complete with Ben Simmons for ROTY. 😝

No matter who we drafted they’d be in NOLA right now.

Assuming healthy:
Jokic
Porky
Paskal
Ball

Assuming what they are now health wise:
Harris
Turner
Paskal
Tatum

Bracing for a "Zion has been shutdown for the year" report. Redshirt him a la Blake, Simmons, etc. Scoop up another lottery pick.

Thinking it better,

Jokic, Booker, Paskal and Donovan seems to be the best picks

That would be a really nice base to build a team on.

But if they're super talented, the entire house doesn't get sent with pick swaps.

What if I told you, the Lakers picked BPAs each one of those times, including some other late 1st rounders and 2nd rounders, and the only difference here is the team culture/environment for player development?

Phil Handy had Pascal Siakam for what, 2-3 years?

Imagine that with Lonzo or BI.

Also, FWIW, I'm starting with the 2 main guys I'd want the Lakers to draft in the first.

One is out of reach in Tyrese Haliburton.

The other is Isaiah Joe.
