why didn't they release that news earlier tho... could have helped the trade...

I think that was more of a threat by the league before they came to an agreement.

Agreement? what did I miss

There is no guarantee that they become that though. And I don't think Magic is looking at a 5 year window either.

The landscape will look so different.

How many people imagined that the East would have 4 of the top 5-6 teams in the NBA last summer? Nobody.

I agree we don't know but if there are 7 or 8 elite teams... chances are at least four or five will remain similar or upgrade.

In order to go all in on AD... we have to win... there is no second option.

It's roll the dice for three years... and hope LBJ can stay young and that we can sign some unexpected players at a discount.

I'm just pointing out the likelihood of AD and LBJ beating teams with several quality players seems unlikely.

OKC will add Roberson... maybe Westbrook starts hitting shots.

Houston might finally get CP3 and Harden for a sustained period.

You know Boston will upgrade with all their assets... AD or not.

Denver will add MPJ and IT to an already strong team.

And this isn't even beginning to talk about the favorites that you guys listed.

If we can't win it all... we shouldn't do the trade on some 10% chance that we get lucky.

Just my opinion.

I think what is happening with Cousins right now is mostly smoke and mirrors....the Warriors are simply good enough to allow him to get a few buckets and get by with his deficiencies. I think if they are able to get Robin Lopez on the buyout market, they will go to him more often if they get into any tough series in the playoffs.

so actually athletes love the Lakers young core. but some check mark nerds who got picked last got NBA twitter drooling over those Boston kids lol

You know the trade deadline passed?

We have no idea what the NBA landscape will be for the next season. Look at how the NBA has shifted to the East unexpectedly this year.

It only makes sense if they can win with injured Bogut, Pachulia, Looney... that even an impaired Boogie would make it that much harder.

In European soccer they have what is called a luxury player... who is sometimes lazy or weak but very skilled with the football.

Boogie is GSW's luxury player... on a weak team... he might be a fatal flaw... but on a good team... he might be the x factor that makes an important shot.

But I do agree they might close out using a player like Lopez.

But my point was sometimes you sign someone like IT or Boogie who can go off and score 20 points on any given night. Especially if you are already deep.

Better than some journeyman who works hard but has almost no chance of doing so.

I would have OKC behind GS.

I agreed... I simply said that with so many rising teams... chances are that although some will decline as you said... some will also rise.

It's not a two team landscape. We cannot leave things to chance if we are trading everyone. Going all in... with the hope all 8 teams will be left in disarray.

Strangely enough, if LBJ had stayed, could he have beaten these up and coming teams?

Toronto-KL a good match for LBJ
Boston-depth and waves of guys to throw at LBJ
76ers-top end depth, basically 4 all star level players.
Bucks-Giannis, with Middleton and 2 shooting big men.

I think he fortuitously left before having to battle these guys to make it deep in the EC.

There was chatter that LeBron & Co wanted Cleveland to trade the pick from the Irving trade for immediate help. Cleveland would do that only if LeBron would make a firm promise to stay for the 2018 - 19 season.

LeBron wouldn't make that promise, so he was already considering an exit strategy from Cleveland.

Uh. No.

It's Warriors, 76ers, Raptors, Bucks, OKC, and then... maybe.... Celtics. But there is a good argument to put Denver in front of Boston too.

News on him will break fast once it's available. He would probably have the most interest of any buyout candidate if healthy. Unless Jordan gets bought out.

I see the Celtics having interest in him since his brother Marcus plays for the Celtics, Lakers do need another big body so I think Lakers are targeting Kanter or Markieff.

I think DeAndre Jordan will be Houston bound if he gets bought out which will be huge for you guys.

Markieff is number one for me. If he doesn't come here IMO I honestly would take Gortat over Kanter since we need a big body to D up.

It was reported last week that NY is not going to buy out Jordan unless something changed.

me too, Gortat is more of a traditional center, and we just traded away one in Zu, so i don't think lakers gonna make a run at Gortat.

Does anyone think this is a coincidence? All the markings are there for KD to be playing for the Knicks next season.
