I was probably his biggest supporter in the Draft thread and advocated he be a draft and stash.
I may be overly optimistic but his ceiling is being a unicorn.
6-10 with great handles, vision and passing skills. Shooting stroke is fairly clean, just needs refinement. Able to drive the paint and finish due to height/length/athleticism. Needs to gain strength and bulk like most young prospects.
He was ranked in the high 20's to 40 in most rankings so not an unknown talent. He does not have Greek Freeks length but still is a unique player that with proper development will be an NBA player.
A rather cryptic but interesting piece of information about this pick.
Someone break this down. Calling all detectives
Philly can’t take cash now that was part of the agreement. They will be able to in a couple weeks. Until then, he’s technically their player and we can’t talk about him.

Agreed
Also, Bonga played meaningful minutes (+/- 20mpg) on a playoff team in a good league and held himself against grown men: that's an underrated feat imho.
no need to send him overseas. he has an NBA body and will develop better on the Lakers than in Germany. that is ofcourse, if we dont trade him
It sounds like he'll be stashed for at least a season.
Don't think they'll stash him in Germany. He's an incredible talent that needs the right player development and specifically needs to build his frame in order to make the next step. Germany or Europe is not the place to do that, you want your assets nearby. Why spend on the second pick if you wouldn't?
The guy's essantially a late bloomer. They found him on a streetball court under a bridge (I mean literally, no kidding). He's been hyped as baby Antetokounmpo for a couple of years due to his length, but lacks on the individual skill and confidence side. Think about it, with his length he's dominated on every level until hitting the pros. Pretty sure if he'd grown up in the US and received proper training, he'd been a high lottery pick at some point.
Guy's a legit 6-9 and still growing, he might top out at 6-11 or something. If the Lakers do this right, he could turn out to be a Lamar Odom at some point down the road. Think they should get him on a two-way like they did with Thomas Bryant last year.

This kid reminds me of a taller, young developing Penny Hardaway. May be this year's Laker steal of the draft down the line. _________________ Homer: "Weaseling out of things is important to learn. It's what separates us from the animals ... except the weasel."
Bonga, 18, is expected to be a project, but the Lakers are excited about his potential. Pelinka and director of scouting Jesse Buss got a close look at Bonga during a trip to Europe this spring.

3 men stranded on a remote island when their boat sank and got captured by the natives. The chief gave them 2 options for trespassing: death or the Bonga. 1st man said “Whatever that Bonga is, I want to live!”. Chief goes “give him the Bonga” so they shoved a coconut up his bum and let him go. 2nd man was shocked to see that but seeing the 1st guy got let go, also chose the ‘Bonga’. 3rd guy wasn’t a coward “I’d rather go out with my dignity intact! I chose death!!!”. Chief responded “ok, death by Bonga Bonga!”
NBA Draft had compared him to Kyle "Slo Mo" Anderson. Although it seems like he moves in slow motion, he still gets the job done. Maybe we should call him "Slow Bo"? Looks like he could be a steal if we develop him.
The high reward potential on this guy is exciting. Could see him ending up in the late teens-early 20’s if was drafted next year, with some projected growth. There’s already some good stuff there to work with

He's got skills yo'
Impressive. I can see why the Lakers were interested. Kid's got great speed with the ball and body control for his size. You can't teach that.
Let him stay in Europe and keep developing those ball-handling and passing skills. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant
Young man looks to have a lot of upside. Definitely needs to get stronger and work in his shot. Will be interesting to see if he remains in Europe or comes to the G- League to do it.
Another thought on stashing and developing him. There has been a lot of speculation that any trade of Deng will take future firsts to accomplish. If that is in 2019 or 2020, wouldn’t a more polished and mature Bonga be a nice influx of talent if the Lakers do not have a first round pick?

Reminds me of a young Boris Diaw a little. I like the roll of the dice here.
I have a hard time even remembering Diaw before he got fat. Let's hope this kid stays hungry literally and figuratively. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant
