No, Artest is gone and no one else comes close realistically. There's Iggy in Philly, but IMO he's nowhere near a Pippen clone. None of the handling skills, passing skills, IQ, and very little of his defensive impact. Pippen was an all-court player, kind of like AK47, Iggy is not. _________________ Westside |

Top "Pippens" in the league, in order of preference.
1. Shawn Marion
2. Artest
3. Eddie Jones
Most realistic option is probably Eddie Jones. Expires in 07. Familiar with Kobe's game. Plays hard nosed defense and can hit open shots. Smart player with a whole lot of experience.
Would you guys be willing to trade Odom for Eddie Jones?
Eddie Jones + Dhantay Jones for Odom + Slava....
Hear me out first...Eddie's contract expires in 07. If were not planning to win a championship in between those years then we mines we'll build up for the future.
A roster of....
Jones/smush/Sasha
Kobe/Mckie/Wafer
Eddie/George/Walton/Green
Brown/cook/Turiaf
Mihm/Bynum
That roster will sure as hell be more competitive and defensive minded than what we have now. come 2007, well have a whole lot of cap space to spend on whatever with Eddie's k coming off the blocks. _________________ Pain is temporary, at the end of pain is success... |

there is only one Scottie and he is retired.
Seriously Scottie was MVP, Artest, prince and these guys are SCRUBS in comparision to Pippen. Pippen is an all-time great and he is probably the greatest SF to ever play the game. |

Pip by committee.
Get Kobe a defense guard to play in the back court with and get him a guy who puts up 20 a night. PIP is old school. Thats probably the best and easiest way _________________ Lakers Tickets |

In other words...old.
To the topic at hand.
Kobe doesn't need another Pippen. He just needs another scorer. Actually, for this team, an inside scorer would be better than a Pippen type player. If a player like Boozer was at full strength and back to his 17 and 9 self, he would be a better fit and be more of what this team needs than Ron Artest or any other Pippen clone. |

Depends on how you look at it.
I agree with you he won't have a "Pippen."
But the title doesn't fully agree with the wording on the poll.
The poll is asking if Kobe will ever have the "support" that Jordan had,
more along the lines of teammates.
I do think inside of the next couple of years we'll have made moves to
surround him by another superstar, and a few new role-players.
Whether those moves end up being the right players or not is yet to be
seen, but no matter how much some may think Laker management is
chock full of knucklheads, there's not a front-office in the league that
wouldn't realize Kobe needs help - and try to make some moves.
Just a matter of patiently waiting for the right deals. |

I like Rashard Lewis too. I think he is closer to a Scottie Pippen than LO is. But Phil likes LO, and I think there is little he will give him up for.
But remember, we don't need a Scottie Pippen. We just need a quality player. Or a "second option". |

We aren't the Bulls. Kobe isn't Jordan. We aren't getting a "Pippen".
We are the Lakers. Kobe is Kobe. He does need more support, and I just hope it is for a player who is his own self and not the next Toni Kukoc, or BJ Armstrong, or especially Luc Longley! _________________ -

i love eddie jones, he's one of my favorites if not my favorite player, but we would have to get another player along with him. i don't think eddie jones has as much value as odom on the market, but i do agree that eddie has more value to the lakers on the court than odom right now. good thinking. |

I'd love Pietrus, though GS is more likely trying to dump dumbleavy's contract so they can keep Pietrus. Someone like Luol Deng or Iguodala would also make a nice complement with a defense first attitude, athleticism and scoring. |

If LO just scores more, at least 5 more points per game, he will be the new Pippen |

I would really love to have Eddie Jones back on our team. I always thought that it was unfortunate that he was traded before Phil became our coach. Phil would have used him well. Now, however, he is more of a role player. You don't trade Odom for Jones... maybe our expiring k's and a pick so that next year we have a big expiring k in Jones. _________________ -

yeah and if he learned to play defense like Scottie, and he learned how to shoot like Scottie, and he learned how to finish like Scottie...then he would be our Pippen. That's all it takes |
