Trade Idea:

Cleveland gets resigned Randle, Deng, a first round pick, and cash.

Lakers get LeBron James.

———————————————————————————————————————

The Lakers do it because they’d have their sights on a cheaper Center option to replace Randle. Also, in trading Deng with Randle, it spares the need for the Lakers to include two first round picks to jettison Deng; this move allows them to hold on to a future first rounder. Oh, and they get LeBron James.

The Cavs do it, ONLY, if they really, really like Randle, viewing him like many of us do, as a future all-star, and they draft a guard or wing with their Brooklyn pick. They do this deal to get Randle, a young, potential future all-star, for a CHEAP price. They also do this deal for the first round pick.

———————————————————————————————————————

The downside for the Lakers is losing Randle, a guy who will almost surely have a very fruitful career as a matchup nightmare across the league. They’ll also have to find a suitable replacement for him (at Center), not an easy task.

The downside for the Cavs, and the reason this trade may never get off the ground, is the luxury tax. This trade would be ridiculously expensive for the Cavs. They’d have to ask themselves if gaining a cheap, but very dynamic, Randle (under 15 mill per) is worth the extra costs of acquiring both Randle and Deng when their payroll is already through the roof. On paper they lose James again and get a lot of talent back for him this time, but they pay dearly for that talent.

Flame away.

Like you said...Cavs wouldn't do it because of the money. They would never take back Deng

Like a Chris Paul sign and trade? LeBron is UFA

I'd rather lose 2 more 1st rd pick to trade Deng than Lose Randle (those picks are 25-30)

I thought you could only do a sign and trade if no other players/assets are involved.
