yep

don't really think I agree with that rule

it would essentially punish a team for getting a TO

They have the same rule in basketball.

If you steal the ball, then lose the ball - that's a change of possession and the 24 sec clock resets.

This year new rule, it resets to 14 not 24

I don't mind it as much in basketball. Turnovers happen way more often, possession changes happen way more often, the same players are on the court either way, a first down means a lot more than a reset of the shot clock, etc.

Yeah, I can see some complications if the rule is as you want it to be. For instance:

1) Let's say it's 3rd and 10 at the 50 yd line. There's a fumble and the other team returns it all the way back to the 10 yd line, then fumbles and recovered by the offensive team. Now what is it?

4th and 50?

2) Let's say 3rd and forever at the 50 yd line. Team throws an interception at the 20 yrd line and the defense tries and returns it and fumbles. Now, the offensive team recovers at the 20 yd line. What is the down now? 1st and 10 at the 20? Or 4th and forever?

They are still benefiting off of a turnover.

On a change of possession? I thought that was for an offensive rebound. Why would a change of possession reset to 14?

I'm guessing the A's will let him go.

Could be. Gonna look up the reset rule.

Quote:
Shot Clock Reset – The shot clock will reset to 14 seconds in three scenarios: after an offensive rebound of a missed field goal or free throw that hit the rim; after a loose ball foul is called on the defensive team immediately following a missed field goal or free throw that hit the rim; or after the offensive team gets possession of the ball after it goes out of bounds immediately following a missed field goal or free throw that hit the rim.

I don't see it there. You may have it right.

They blew the last holding call.Missed a helmet to helmet. Saints are hurting themselves with penalties.

Yeah, it wouldn't make sense on a change of possession. Then you'd have to referee which change of possession resets to 14 and which resets to 24.

Saints overcome 4 hurtful penalties and score 6.

hmm those are good points

I think I'd just bite the bullet under the first scenario, i.e., I'd be okay with 4th and 50 as the result there. Still would rather have that than letting the offense get a new set of downs after a turnover.

But the second scenario gives me more pause. I think I'd still rather have it be 4th and forever, though. I mean in that specific scenario the offense would still get to go for a field goal, but the defense still benefits from getting the TO in the first place.

It's tough – and after those situations you point out I can see why it is the way it is. I think I'd still prefer it changed or maybe some sort of middle-ground change.

Difference in this game -

Philadelphia is allergic to blitzing

New Orleans has been blitzing on seemingly every passing down

Man, Eagles might lose this game without ever blitzing Brees. Amazing.

Can't believe Eagles never tried to bring the pressure vs. Brees. Unbelievable.

The announcers are kind - "playing back has not worked for them. I think I'd bring the pressure here."

Yeah, no duh

Look at that, they bring the pressure and stop them on 3rd down. What a concept.

Oh oh, more Eagles magic.

They are in great position. Down by 6, plenty of time left, 2 TOs.

I think Foles will get it done. He's got 4 downs to work with now.
