Really excited to check out The Color of Money. A friend told me about it, never heard of the movie before that. But I have a feeling I'll like it.
If you haven’t, watch The Hustler first.
Jackie Gleason played a part that wasn't comedic. He did a surprisingly good job portraying Minnesota Fats. He's a better actor than I gave him credit for. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

If Pepe Le Pew is cancelled, what gateway will young people have to the dangerous seductions of Charles Boyer or the bawdy ribaldry of Maurice Chevalier? It's an assault on the rich tradition of Gallic-American entertainment that should not stand. _________________ Under New Management
The hate Hong Chau's performance in Downsizing got still baffles me. She gave one of the best performances of the past decade and people were up in arms over her *absolutely perfect* accent. Baffling. _________________ Under New Management

Didn't even know people cared. She was brilliant in Downsizing.

Anybody seen Filth? A buddy recommended it to me. Said it's James McAvoy's best film. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Downsizing didn't grab me. The concept was too far off the charts. Hong Chau's personality was charming. Nothing fazed her. I don't know why the hate assuming there was some. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Very much my jam. I watched it while tired and didn't engage with the existentialist themes as much on first watch and instead got caught up in the droll humor, the fun lead performances, and the pretty landscape and shot compositions. But the juxtaposition of Stamp's feigned new age-y detachment with Laura del Sol's* fierce desire to live was an interesting thesis statement and I like how her enigmatic character - "you're not 15" - along with John Hurt's mysterious hitman end up taking over the movie from Stamp and Roth.
I do wish Frears had given Fernando Rey more to do.
* She stars in Saura's Flamenco Trilogy, which is out of print and not streaming on the Criterion Channel. I really, really, really want to see her dance in HD: _________________ Under New Management

I"m probably turning a couple of negative reviews into more criticism than there actually was - still, I think she deserved an oscar nomination.
I think Downsizing will grow on people in the coming years. And while it may never have an outsized audience, I expect its appeal to expand beyond the miniscule reception it received in 2017. _________________ Under New Management
A handful of really fun Korean New Wave flicks are leaving Criterion at the end of the month. I'm especially partial to Nowhere to Hide, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, A Tale of Two Sisters, and Save the Green Planet, but catch em all if you can. _________________ Under New Management

I think the criticism came from the fact that while her accent was technically correct, it was a bit aggressively on the nose, and also a bit less complimentary to Vietnamese Americans than a more toned down, less over the top portrayal might have been. It’s not that she did something wrong, but some folks felt she was playing a caricature in a time when Asians are struggling to find roles where they aren’t stereotypes.
Personally, I thought she was very convincing and played a compelling character, but I get the critique. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

Saw the Russo brothers flick on Apple TV. It's called Cherry.
It was really good. After watching it, I'm upgrading Tom Holland from fine actor to above average/good actor. His co-star Ciara Bravo was perfectly cast for that role. But between the show Wayne and the role she did in Cherry, I want to see her branch out a little more. Otherwise she's just going to get pigeonholed with the same role over and over again (cause she's so good at it). I think she has the potential to be more than that. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

I read the book a year or two ago (time is all blended now lol) and was excited when I heard they were making it a movie. I was surprised to see Tom as the lead since I pictured a much different person but I knew that kid was a serious actor when I saw him in The Impossible — he was maybe 13 and delivered a hell of performance. The movie was better than the book imo, in that the story was more focused, ie. it flowed a lot better.
Apple+ is really delivering nothing but quality content between tv and movies.

The Hit was slow moving. Willie Parker went from a confident knowing he was going to die target to a sniveling coward. Why did he want to die in Paris? I thought he was going to live. Myron's fascination with Maggie sealed his doom. Braddock was a silent assassin. Maggie had heart, she fought to the end. It's a good watch. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Baron or anyone, have you seen Annihilation (2018) feat JJ Leigh and Natalie Portman? Weird flick, but an interesting concept. One of those movies that had me thinking while watching it, "I wonder why they never thought of this concept before". Seems to me they could've made a better movie out of it if it was a bigger-budget affair, but still. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!

Didn't know it was based on a true story. Glad the film was at least as good as the book. Sometimes that's not the case with adaptations.
Ya Apple TV is solid. That Tom Hanks war submarine movie Greyhound was good too. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

Don't judge me guys. But I'm looking forward to the Godzilla vs. Kong movie.
Getting these movies on HBO Max is nice. I won't be going to a theater anytime soon. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

I thought the notion of DNA of all life forms being refracted like light thru a lens, in addition to soundwaves or waves of any kind, was very novel. Thus and so, there were creatures w/ plant features/vice versa and plants in human forms and plants and animals w/ bizarre adaptations and a mutant bear with a roar that sounds like the screams of his past victim because her DNA and vocalizations refracted onto the bear, etc. The end part w/ the humanoid that mimicked Portman was a good attempt at the end of 2001: A Space Odyssey, but I liked it. Felt like a movie w/in a movie and a dreamscape at the same time. Then she and her ex-husband return from The Glimmer in some kind of implied altered form. Author took the theory of extraterrestrial life brought to Earth by meteors to a further level. Interesting movie for any sci-fi fans, recommended. _________________ GOAT MAGIC REEL SEDALE TRIBUTE EDDIE DONX!
