Check it out. So many people on this site have repeatedly said "trade Lamar!". That's no secret. He is obviously not a second scoring option to Kobe. And thats what we need.... besides defense. Lamar is more like a 3rd option that can share the ball. But maybe, just maybe, if we hold out for the 2007/2008 plan, we might be able to score a scorer. Now imagine Kobe (scorer/ defender), Lamar (passer/ rebounder), and "John Doe" (second option) in the starting lineup. Isn't that worth waiting for? I mean, whats the worse that can happen?
Bring it on.... Bring the pain! |

if we could trade odom for someone better(like Artest ) then we should. But not for salary cap like the rumoured knicks deal. _________________ Pain is temporary, at the end of pain is success... |

No way should we move LO for cap-space.
He's not the answer as a 2nd-option, but he can work as a 3rd.
If we can trade him for a legit 2nd, without losing too much on the
boards, then do it.
But for cap-space?
Anyone supporting that move isn't just a LO-hater, they're EXTREME

Lamar is a third option who makes 1st option $. He gotta go. If he could shoot he's top 10 in the league but he can't. |

The answer isn't necessarily just "trade LO". The answer is trade whoever the Lakers can if it means getting them closer to a championship for years to come. Bottom line. That means if you can trade Kobe for LeBron and Kirk Hinrich or something, you do it without hesitation. If you can trade LO for Rashard Lewis or Ron Artest, you do it without hesitation. _________________ Westside |

Yeah but that's only if you consider Rashard a better fit than Lamar and/or
a better player.
To me they're fairly comparable players as far as value goes. It's not
a trade that would kill me as a fan.
I'd much prefer Lewis to Franchise (for a ton of reasons).
Still not saying I want Lewis for LO, but you're making it sound like
trading LO for Lewis is a "no-brainer" or something and that's just not
the case.
You're right, the answer isn't "just" trade LO.
It's also not "just" what makes our team better now.
We gotta look at the big picture too.
Lewis isn't a terrible choice in that regard, I just don't dislike LO quite as
much as you it seems |

I think we can trade Lamar for Atest, but now is too late and now I think is better to wait the 2007 |

He's obviously not capable of being a 2nd option, but he makes 1st option money !

Trade him. He has no heart. The only reason why we keep him is because he can rebound and bring up the ball. Wecan find role players who can do those thingswell.
He is talented enought o be traded for a legit 2nd option...if Mitch trades wisely.
Speaking of Mitch, he should be fired. |

the ONLY reason to trade LO now is for capsapce THIS SUMMER. And you only care about that IF you are certain there is a player you can use it on, who reshapes the franchise...i.e., if we knew KG could be had for HARDAWAY'S expiring contract.
But KG won;t be available for that, especially not to a WC team. T-mac? Maybe houston gives up on him. That would be worth it. Can't really think of anyone else that would make sense.
which is why I do not see LO being moved. |

We don't have capspace this summer, even if Lamar is sent packing for expiring contracts. |

Yeah, that's ridiculous. You don't trade a player like LO for capspace. In fact the only player I would trade him for at this point is KG. |

I want Lamar traded but ONLY for a big and a guard. If you trade him for just a big, you lose 1 of the 3 guys in the rotation who can drive. Likewise, if you trade him for just a guard, you lose one of three guys who can rebound (the best actually). _________________ "My thirst for domination is fed only by the game. But the whole question was would you trade him now, or wait till we have a bigger pocket and pick up a second option? |

Why not trade him now for a real 2nd option and use that extra money to pick up 2 impact players. Holding out for a 2nd option is not realistic unless we plan on overpaying. |

He's never gonna be a good fit for us. Too one dimensional and he makes too much $ for what he gives. He should be moved for a likely better fit or a combo of cap relief and young talent who should excel in the triangle with experience. That way, when we do have cap space after next year, these young guys now have at least a year of the triangle/Kobe under their belt. Chemistry comes from the right combo of guys playing together for a while and Odom will never be a good fit w/ Kobe. Especially with the $ he makes. Kobe excels w/ triangle friendly defensive types who make the many open shots that he provides them.
By the way, the exact same thing could/should be done with Kwame. |

just out of curiosity, would you all do this trade if Memphis also gave us a future pick?
L.A. Lakers Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Stanislav Medvedenko
6-10 PF from Ukraine (Foreign)
1.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 3.5 minutes
Lamar Odom
6-10 SF from Rhode Island
13.9 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 5.4 apg in 39.3 minutes
Incoming
Hakim Warrick
6-9 SF from Syracuse
3.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.5 apg in 10.3 minutes
Bobby Jackson

Eddie Jones
6-6 SG from Temple

Change in team outlook: +13.3 ppg, +0.1 rpg, and -0.4 apg.
Memphis Trade Breakdown
Outgoing
Hakim Warrick

3.7 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 0.5 apg in 10.3 minutes
Bobby Jackson
6-1 PG from Minnesota
11.7 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 3.1 apg in 26.6 minutes

6-6 SG from Temple
12.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.9 apg in 32.8 minutes

6-10 PF from Ukraine (Foreign)
1.0 ppg, 0.0 rpg, 0.5 apg in 3.5 minutes
Lamar Odom
6-10 SF from Rhode Island
13.9 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 5.4 apg in 39.3 minutes
Change in team outlook: -13.3 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and +0.4 apg.
Successful Scenario
Due to L.A. Lakers and Memphis being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. L.A. Lakers and Memphis had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out unless trade exceptions were used for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Trade ID
Every trade made by fans is allocated a unique Trade ID which you can share with friends and fellow basketball fans to allow them to see your trade scenario. The Trade ID for this scenario is 2960848. _________________ -

not LO for Crazy Ron. stop sayin that. Ron is still volatile. i know it and so do you. even though i love his intensity. and ron aint no set shooter. therefore his 3pt shot will look Terrible sitting up in the triangle. kobe drives and kicks to ron..... Brick. Brick. Swish, Brick, Swish, Brick, Brick, Brick.... are we willing to give Ron artest the ball in the post regularlly? if so. why not give LO the ball in the post Regularly right now? Ron artest is nice on defense. but so what. its not like they run pick n rolls with Smush and a SF. its Smush/vujaci, and a big. which kills everything. so ron super de wouldn't be able to play such a huge role as it does in other places. at least not until the lakers as a whole get on the same page defensively. but they can do that now and look great.
I want a 2nd scoring threat/with defense and a 3pointer(40%). and he needs to be known for making good decisions with the basketball. if you know where i can get this guy, let me know. and at the same time. I still want LO around to compliment kobe and this 2nd scoring guy. I dont want to give away our #3 guy to get a #2. and we still need a #3. and for those who says LO makes #1 money. thats not true. and you cant compare that because he got his cash before the new agreement. so what guys are making now as #1's was not the same as what they were making pre-agreement. on a side note. LO does do other things besides score, he rebounds with the best of em, can block a shot, give you assist(assuming you surround him with guys that'll make shots.
lets be real, if lamar had lets say Kirk heiny, and the kobester to pass it to. dont you think he would average 7 to 8 assist in his sleep? I do. it aint all LO's fault. and lets stop acting like it. |
