When Kuzma went to Charlotte for All-Star Weekend to participate in the NBA’s Rising Stars Challenge, he sought an audience with Pelinka. Kuzma and his people came away from their chat feeling reassured, a source close to the situation told The Athletic. Pelinka told the second-year forward that he was key to the Lakers’ future and that, unless it was a trade for one of the game’s three best players, he wasn’t trading him.

A year earlier, Larry Nance Jr. approached Pelinka with a similar question.

Nance Jr. and his fiancée, his college girlfriend, were interested in buying a house. He wanted to get a sense of whether the Lakers planned on keeping him around, and Pelinka told him that the Lakers would only trade him if it meant landing one of the game’s three best players. He told him to buy the house, multiple sources confirmed.

Before Nance could get that far, however, he received a call on the morning of Feb. 8, 2018. He and Jordan Clarkson had been traded to Cleveland in a salary dump that cleared cap space for the Lakers to be able to offer two max slots in the summer.

Wow. Just... wow.

Think this is an over reaction. We traded Nance to get IT who the previous season is an MVP candidate (we didnt know the injury will destroy his career). On top of that, I can't say we don't know if we informed Nance first before we finalized the deal. Looking at the article below he seems very excited to go home.

Nance Trade to the Cavs

we traded nance to get cap space. lets just call it is what it is...

IT was the salary dump expirer

Cap space for a player we couldn’t sign

Jeanie had nothing to do with it. Magic stepped down on his own and didn't even tell her.

I put the blame on Jeanie. She should have known giving Magic this much power was likely going to lead to lots of bad decisions. Casual NBA fans seen this a mile away from many questionable at best insights he had gave on current players, to evidence that pointed that he would most likely not be a hard worker putting in endless hours in the FO.
She could have made him the face of the team without nearly as much power where he's free to go on vacations and have mid-day golfing outings while others behind the scenes are doing the real heavy lifting and decision making.

I don’t think Magic would have agreed of it without having the power to build the roster himself. He wants to be the man that turns this franchise around but the worst thing is he doesn’t let other people to take the credit so he hired a GM who is as raw as he is and refused seeking help publicly

Magic is now officially a failure as a FO executive.

He leaves the same way he did as a coach and host: by stepping down and running away.

The haters got their wish and disrespected a legend until he was out.

Feel bad for next guy who has to listen to Jeanie’s whims.

Knock it off, both of you. This is a big, sad, weird, shocking moment. Let's try to process it without taking shots at each other.

It's pretty sad for all the talk of the 2 max plan, magic steps down before coming up to the plate rather than striking out in FA.

Truly a baffling decision today.

Clean a house of its owner...? Do you suffer from delusions of grandeur as a consumer/customer/fan? The sheer insolence, lol.

I agree with some of the other things from this post... but these two bits I've quoted are just hogwash man. The NBA and its teams are not a socialist states... if those former players thought they were secure, that is on them. Even players with no-trade clauses are NEVER secure because they can be waived. These are the rules of the "game"... choosing to ignore the rules of the game cannot be blamed on someone else. Second, they do not owe you/us a public apology either... they are not elected representatives of a democracy. Do you really think that publicly admitting to mistakes, while still holding their positions and while the season is still in process, is going to change anything apart from ruin their credibility with the people that actually matter when it comes to fixing said mistakes, i.e., players, agents and other GMs? If admitting to mistakes at that level of management needs to be done, it should remain at that level and in-house... and then either make steps to correct them... or step-down... or get fired. Be real.

Rob is just starting to seem like a shady guy. Don't forget about that Carlos Boozer Cavs situation.
