Excellent defensive awareness, and he doesn't die on screens.. Fights even when beat off the dribble.

Here he is giving Steph and Klay trouble.

No kidding! Such an exciting signing!

Can anyone explain to me how in the hell a player like this is renounced?

Jesus Magic is one of the luckiest SOBs I've ever seen.

Needed a top 3 pick...check

Needed a leader...check

Needed to unload a horrendous contract...check

Needed a dope SG to replace DLo...check

This team just got worlds better than last year roster, chemistry, and talent wise in 1 offseason with ZERO wiggle room.

AND we're open for business next year?

I LOVE MAGIC!

Cranjis McBasketball twitter (@T1m_NBA ). He is killing my good vibes although the positives are he's above average on catch and shoot and PnR scoring

Stat guys rarely pay attention to defense and even when they do defensive stats are extremely flawed, I'm optimistic

I mean honestly though, the alternatives at 2 were Hart and JC. Surely KCP is a better option than those two. And there weren't any other decent FA's of note

System also makes a huge difference. From the few times I saw the pistons play, aren't they a slower paced team?

KCP seems built to run all game long.

I though I read Detroit was hard capped. They also probably didn't want to pay him what his agent was demanding. Either way, their loss our gain

I don't think it's even in question. KCP's ability (supposedly) to guard the opposing teams best G and lock him down ALONE makes this a huge signing. His highlights clearly show he will have the ability to run and finish at the rim.

The big question mark is if he will be able to shoot a high enough % from 3 to really make him valuable.

Avery Bradley is good player...but I'm all about paying guys I developed insane money...this kid looks lightening quick and ferocious on D...paired with Ball and in Luke's system..

He gonna be able to back up the brink's truck next June.

We've been starving for a good defender, so much so we call poor average. KCP has the potential to lock down, rotate and hit 3's eventually like Ariza or dare we say Coop level?

Pope will be licking his chops next to Lonzo.

Good pickup and a really good complimentary player.

Gotta have faith.

Thank you Magic for getting it done.

KCP

62nd best SG in DRPM
22nd %ile ODR

20th %ile driving D
10th %ile iso D
39th %ile off screen D

I have concerns about that defense

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 35m35 minutes ago

Replying to @T1m_NBA
39th %ile jump shooting D
26th %ile off dribble D
7th %ile mid range D
11th %ile floater D
13th %ile post D
35th %ile spot up D

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 31m31 minutes ago

Positives from KCP's defense:

82nd %ile guarded catch and shoot defense

Best PnR defense on team (although just in 42nd %ile)

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 31m31 minutes ago

39th %ile for overall PnR offense when you incorporate passes as well. 13th %ile on those pass outs

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 27m27 minutes ago
More
KCP was 9th worst in driving efficiency of the 210 players who had 100+ drives last season

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 23m23 minutes ago
More
Just checked Synergy for historical KCP data and defensively he's had the same weaknesses every year since he's been in the league

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 22m22 minutes ago
More
This isn't one fluky year of weird defensive data. He's consistently poor defending PnR, iso, off screens, drives, and off dribble shots

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 13m13 minutes ago
More
Offensively KCP brings a couple skills:

70th %ile PnR scoring (13th %ile passing)

67th %ile catch & shoot

Those the only 2 big positives

Cranjis McBurnItDown‏ @T1m_NBA 9m9 minutes ago
More
Playing w/Jackson & Drummond doesn't help (2 awful defenders), but remove those 2 & KCP is Detroit's worst defender by PPP

There's more from other people, but this is already a lot.
