Maybe this explains Magic's sudden turn of events. Maybe PG13's camp reached out and told Magic to save up cap space and not trade away the core pieces for him.

This was floated out (and many here suspected from PG13's camp) during the trade deadline too so it's not surprising. I never bought the notion that we'd give up the farm for PG13 in light of that fact. Strangely a lot of peeps forgot.

I hope we don't get trigger happy. So close to have a near dream scenario of: #2/DLO/PG13/Ingram core going forward.

Can have a loaded team if we keep young core due to rookie deals. Add PG and maybe another all star if we can create cap space by trading Deng and JC in 2018. Maybe #28 we pick this year and Top 5 protected 2019 pick would be enough to offload Deng if PG and another all star commits.

Let's hope we can get one good FA first.

That 8-man rotation can be like 1999-2000 Portland Trailblazers deep but much younger too.

Same. Finally some actual logic in this front office. Instead of years of confusing and frustration with Mitch and Jim.

If both PG13 and the Lakers can be patient, this may turn out to be a blessed pairing.

I fear though PG13 may be traded somewhere that he may end up liking. But if that's the case, so be it.

You can acquire George and tie it with needed cap relief for 2018
Mozgov or Deng, 28th pick, Clarkson and Randle for George and Al Jefferson

You have cap space for another max guy like Cousins in 2018

Next year:
Ingram-Nance
George-Black-Deng
Zubac-Jefferson
Ball-Ennis
DR-Brewer

2018-19
Ingram-Nance
George
Cousins-Zubac
Ball
Dlo

Or you could just sign him and not lose assets, as he has apparently requested. You guys are something else, we finally get a quality FA (apparently) wanting to come here and you want to piss him off by doing the opposite of what is reported he has asked.

Conversation between Pincus and Winters about Woj's report:

Quote:
@EricPincus
The Pacers are the only team that can give Paul George 5 years but he's not eligible for the extra ~$30 mil to stay

@SerenaWinters
Other teams can give Paul George 4 years and he will eventually sign another contract to make up 5th - becomes a ? of what does PG want

@EricPincus
The "buzz" is that Paul George wants to be a Laker but we don't know how true and how he and his agent will play that

@EricPincus
George and his agent can depress his trade value, up to them, up to prospective teams to take the risk, up to Pacers to navigate

@EricPincus
@lz22 "same agent as Russell and Randle right?" I would suspect that if George's agent is dead-set on Lakers - big if still - he would want PG playing w/Russell and Randle

@EricPincus
It's rare for star players to be traded for value. Lakers and Celtics can get into a bidding war for Paul George but why would they?

@EricPincus
If Paul George intentionally depresses the trade market to direct his destination, may be a tough path for the Pacers to get true value. But that's Paul George and how he handles the situation ahead.

@SerenaWinters
Meaning teams looking to trade for Paul George may not have to give up as much as they originally thought…

This is all just speculation- the Woj thing seems like actual reporting. This is also reporting:

The three takeaways that stood out to me :

1) George missed the all-NBA teams-Indiana loses leverage

2) Hayward also missed the all-NBA teams, which improves Boston's ability to sign him away from Utah. Great for us as it lessens the likelihood they'll trade for George and hope they can keep him after a deep playoff run next season.

3) Atlanta offered FOUR first round picks for PG. wow.

Thanks for posting IM. I find the shared agent interesting, and the Lakers are perfectly fine talking to him

QQ: If the Lakers & George wait until 2018, doesn't that open up the risk that PG makes the All-NBA team NEXT year & then is eligible for the DPE with the Pacers?

It's obvious the Lakers want two max guys in 2018, doubt they make a major deal this summer. However, they're going to have to shed those dumb contracts to Moz/Deng. May cost them guys like Clarkson/Nance/28th pick/Randle.

No one will take those deals without an asset. Losing Clarkson would also provide cap space.

Clarkson/Moz or Deng/and Nance for expiring contracts is a type of deal that may happen.

By 2018 we could stretch one of the Mozdeng contracts without too much pain.

Considering I really like Nwaba and Ennis and the fact that we should have the DLOnzo starting back court, Clarkson is certainly a movable asset in my mind. I would not mid trying to get some picks for him- or attach him to Deng to get a deal done if that would help.

I just love the 2018 plan, I am very happy to hear this from the FO. This is the smart way to rebuild. No need to give up assets for the one year PG rental.

He was 40+ votes away from the last spot on the 3rd all-NBA team (where butler got a little over 100 votes). That's a sizeable distance. The Pacers IMO might get worse (Teague is a FA).

Further, Anthony Davis will be reclassified as a forward, bumping one of Lebron/Kahwai (unlikely) or KD/Giannis/Dray/Butler.

I'd peg that chance at under 5% for PG13 to make all NBA next year.

Several teams made trade offers for George in February, including the Atlanta Hawks, who offered 4 first-round picks in exchange for him. George, who grew up as a Kobe Bryant fan in Southern California, has expressed an interest in playing for the Los Angeles Lakers in the past.

Ive been thinking for a few days now, that their plan A was to win their pick to take Ball and sign Pg13 and Boogie in 2018. It facilitates a faster rebuild. Lets the kids develop another year. Maybe dlo or randle make a significant improvement to borderline all star status. Keeps the fanbase engaged. And gives us a real shot at competing sooner rather than later. Its the kind of plan that gives them flexibilty and makes a certain splash. If they can pull it off, adding those two to our young core + Lonzo, it would be Hollywood box office.
