Justin Jackson is going to be a really nice 3 and D player.

Called this before the draft, I went to the final four and he was by far the best player on the court, should have been a top 10 pick. I also said Collins was going to be a bust, his 26% FG shooting in SL I think points to that. I am surprised by how Thornwell is playing though, he didn't look like an NBA player in person...he's been doing well in SL.

lol within 5 years this is going to be a comical take

Mavericks have a lot of speed and quickness in Dennis Smith and Yogi.

If they can counter that, chances look good.

Who would you put on DS? He looks too fast for Lonzo to handle
quickness wise.

Vanderblue?

Lonzo Ball gets the most on court rest I've ever seen. All those outlet passes and doesn't always run hard for transition D. That's his subtle way of getting 4 of 5 players a break.

Why is the summer league Lakers so much more exciting to watch than the regular Lakers?

I watch every summer league game and actually looking forward to games. Got the beer and pizza.
It might break the record for the most watched summer league game

Has to be!

Just curious, what is Vander Blue missing? He can be a scoring punch off the bench for teams but year after year, this dude can't get a spot

And scouts missed out on Kuzma or this is just a summer league phenomenon?

I feel like he is kind of tarnished with that "G League" tag. The guy is an NBA player in my opinion....probably a 3rd stringer, but he has NBA talent. At a minimum, i would like to see him get a 2 way contract offer this year.....its a minimum of $75K....probably average $150K....atleast enough to live off of while chasing his dream. He saved us last night on several occasions.

I am really happy with our summer league team. Win or loose I think the team and the players got a lot out of it. We got to see some guys with some potential and we got to see your team concept that actually worked on the court.

Blue's game is a bit myopic. He's not a nuanced passer/playmaker or defender. The developmental league games look like a chuck fest. The great ball movement on our summer league team reduces the negative impact of those aspects of his game, so he fits much better.

As for Kuzma, yeah, it's looking like a few scouts missed (maybe should have gone 10 or so spots higher it seems based on everyone's summer league play right now). I think Ball's impact certainly helps...but Kuzma's NBA range has been legit. Doesn't matter who's on the court with him with how he's raining down NBA three's consistently since the combines.

Advanced off-ball play
Non-default Iso mode
Some ability to finish at the rim against verticality
Shot selection issues
Defensive issues by size

Blue fits perfectly with the Lonzo/Kuzma lineup because there's so much ball movement within the halfcourt, so Blue defaults as an Iso scorer, but even if he pulls back to reset the offense, there's no guarantee that the ball swings to the opposite floor.

The bold is also the key problem for him. With each successive level (college to d league to summer league to preseason nba to nba regular season to playoffs) the athleticism, discipline and length of the defenders increases. I highly doubt that Blue can have the same success finishing at the rim in the regular NBA season, making no mention of the fact that he would be playing a role off the ball rather than on it.

Frankly, I think Jabari Brown is a better NBA player than Blue, but we saw his limitations. If you are a ball stopper, you better be an elite one... which neither Brown nor Blue are. As the ball stopper/ISO scorer type, it's much more difficult when that kind of player has to fit a role within the combines of a structured NBA offense deferring to other players, making no mention of the defenders you face at the next level and the requirement that you be able to defend as well.

Just watch Clarkson. See how much better he is when he has the ball in his hands than when he has to play off the ball, and that's with Clarkson being significantly better in skill, athleticism, BBIQ (in regards to basic passing/ball movement skills) and length than Blue.
