I had to laugh...
Dallas just played New Orleans, and the Pelicans lost by 46 points -- 130 (Mavs) to 84 (Pels).
Box score: https://www.nba.com/games/20191207/NOPDAL/?ss=watch#/boxscore
Lonzo Ball went 1 for 9 in 27 minutes, and was 0 for 7 on threes, with more TOs than Assists. Oh and he didn't shoot a single FT. He finished a negative 28 (-28), worst on his team!
Luka, on the other hand, was 8 for 15, 8 for 10 on foul shots, and had a team-high (with Porzingas) of +28, with 26 pts and 9 assists.
FOLKS, Luka Doncic is what Lonzo was SUPPOSED to be. Here we see just what a true BUST Lonzo was and is.
Those of you who dissed 'Zo while he was a Laker have been proven 100% right.
I always said Lonzo has bad fundamentals, poor mind-set, and seems to be more worried about his Rapping than his b-ball.
Oh... and just for the record, with this game, Luka has tied Michael Jordan for the longest streak of 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists since the ABA/NBA merger.

Not Luka, Zo can still be a taller Pat Bev with better passing but yeah, he’s replaceable. I actually rather have KCP at $8m than Zo at $8m |

Neither are Lakers, but Lonzo can still be a very good player. |

I have been saying for years that Lonzo is just Ricky Rubio with elite defense. Lonzo is injury prone, can’t shoot (especially free throws), and isn’t particularly athletic.
Strengths are elite defense and court vision. Solid starting PG, but not a real gamechanger and pretty disappointing for a #2 overall pick. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Lonzo isn't close to Rubio at this point. |

Agreed. Rubio is literally better than Lonzo at everything - on both sides of the ball - except rebounding, where they are roughly equal. _________________ There was NO COLLUSION with Russia. Ukraine, Australia, Italy, Britain and others are a different story . . . |

Yeah I was so all in for Zo, thought he would be an All-Star PG for us. But no, dude is a straight up bust, might not even be a starting calibre PG at this point.
Thank God we dumped the young "Core" for AD when we did. |

Previous game against Rubio he had 20/6/11 with 3 stls and 2 blks. That’s how it goes with Lonzo. |

Calling 'Zo a Ricky Rubio is being generous. At least Rubio keeps his head in the game. I just reviewed the Mavs/Pels game highlights, and there are many sequences where Lonzo was caught napping -- embarrassing.
"Elite Defense"? Wishful thinking. Sometimes he plays good D but a lot of the time his mind wanders or he just quits. It is telling that his coach had him defend the least important Mavs players. That's not what you do with a 6'6" "elite defender".
I'm very glad whoever is making player decisions now for the Lakers seems to be getting players with tough mindsets. Enough of the losers like Lonzo. |

Looks like we only lost one future All-Star in that trade: BI. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Can you imagine in NOLA called us and said we'll give you Zo, BI, Hart and few picks in a trade for AD?

Nice one game sample-size. Lonzo is a great defender and has exceptional court-vision. I mean, no (bleep) is he worse than Doncic. Everybody is worse than Doncic. But don't tell me Lonzo is worthless. He can do a job on a team and he will have a full career in the NBA. More than some No.1-picks achieved. Yeah, he was drafted a couple of spots too early from what we know now, but compared to Doncic everybody looks like a total bust. Dude is a generational talent. Oh, and Lonzo is still recovering from injury by the way. I'm not a fan of Lonzo, but your line of reasoning sucks. |

Too early to call him a bust.
Historically, the #2 position isn't anything special. The #1 overall pick tends to be much better than the average pick, but there doesn't seem to be a heck of a lot of difference between the career success of picks 2-7 or so.
But you shouldn't assume that a #2 pick automatically will be a franchise player or perennial all star. Just ask Michael Beasley, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Derrick Williams, Evan Turner, or Hasheem Thabeet. |

I put up a chart a while back showing that #2 picks tend to play more minutes and post higher win shares then all picks other than #1.
That said, way too early to call him a bust, I agree. If he is going to be a bust, it’s going to be because of injuries. |

Yeah, unless AD walks in free agency. Then we're (bleep) and the draft picks turn into gold for NOLA. |

What makes it even funnier is that we had the option of trading them Kuzma instead of Ingram. Given the kind of season Kuzma has had, can you imagine if we had done that instead?
Ball, Kuzma, Hart, the #4 pick in a three person draft, and a couple of late first rounders. It would have been an even bigger heist than the Gasol trade, if it isn't already.
At least they got an All-Star back in Ingram. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

Eh, there were already warning signs from the first workout, his dad, and the amount of time he spent on social media and other interests. Dude let his dad do everything it seems and it shows on the court with his lack of attacking. He has the gifts just no mentality, so disappointing. |

Hmm, just look at Doncic's own draft. There are teams kicking themselves too. Nobody can see the future and predict he's the second coming of whatever. I mean I know people expected Luka to be good, but this great, this early? Nobody saw that, otherwise he'd be #1. So no, this isn't what Lonzo was supposed to be. He was never projected as a gifted offensive player like Luka was. We heard Jason Kidd, Jason Kidd, Jason Kidd, Jason Kidd... and Jason Kidd. I still see the similarities there. Both aren't really offensive players but should be a triple double threat every night because they do all the little things. But he's not even living up to J. Kidd hype right now. J. Kidd was much more aggressive and much more involved in deciding the outcome of games, even in the early years.
I think Lonzo's spirit is crushed. Too much off court stuff in LA with the rapping, the reality show, the shoes, etc. It's his own and his dad's doing. |
