If the current rumor is true and Lonzo will be back after the ASB, then it won't be long until we're back to full strength

Just in time for our big playoff push

Heh. It doesn't say right after ASB.
So who knows.
I'm hoping he can get at least 10 regular season games before the playoffs. That would be late March. If he comes back April (which would have been 10 weeks since the injury), he'd get 5 games before the playoffs.

And do you think Turner got some updated information from lonzo's camp and medical professionals or he just looked at a calendar and calculated 6 weeks from the injury? I suspect it's the latter.

Leaning towards the latter as well.

My rule with any Lakers injury is to take the first time frame they give and then double it. So I think they said 3-4 weeks for Lonzo which makes it 6-8 weeks in reality. Early to Mid March.

Yeah, I usually assume that they're wildly underestimating the time frame too.

I always take what defense projects and multiply it by 1.24.

so 9.92 - 14.88 weeks

To Walton’s point, L.A. had the NBA’s 7th ranked defense – rating of 106.7 – when Lonzo Ball got injured on Jan. 21. Since then, they have the 26th ranked defense – 116.8. Ball is three weeks into what was given as a 4-to-6 week timetable.

Ignorant.

Whenever a player (or dad, in this case) wants to be traded, the team never gives a damn, and just does whats in the best interest of the team. Same thing here - its just noise, and means nothing. We do whats best for us.

Not trying to pile on, these are facts from
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/balllo01.html

Ball is
MISSING 67.1% of his 3pt attempts
MISSING 58.3% of his FT attempts
MISSING 59.4% of his FG attempts

And his Dad is correct 12.3% of the time.

I don’t have a favorite player anymore since I’m a grown man 😜. But I don’t think it’s too far fetched for me to say Lonzo may be the most important player on this team. Not the best, just the most important.

If we could get the Suns pick, I'd be a no brainer. Possibility of Zion. Morant or Barrett?

That said, it's a stupid proposal because the Suns would never do it.

I'm not sure how seriously to take those stats. Without a doubt, losing Ball hurts our defense, especially given the replacements available for his minutes. But we're talking about less than an eight game sample (not counting today) against difficult opposition, plus the debacle against the Pacers.

Won't be surprised if this is true. And Luke is not the coach to get the best out of what we have.

As for the opposition, GSW away, OKC, Mavs away, Rockets away( till ZO got injured) aren't easy and we weren't anywhere close to being this bad defensively despite missing our best player.

Kuzma said “Getting ‘Zo back” is one thing that will help the Lakers defense, but said they can’t make excuses in the meantime, and simply have to play better on that end. Isn’t just missing one guy. Collective effort and attention has to get better.

It may be true, but raw +/- numbers (which is what those are, in effect) do not account for the quality of the backup. If you replace an average PG with, say, Jordan Clarkson, the average PG's raw defensive +/- numbers are going to look great. Ball is a good defender, for sure, but I am skeptical about stats that suggest that he is some kind of otherworldly defender. He has a DRPM of +0.98, which is very good for a PG. He ranks 7th in the league, and his numbers were rising before he got hurt.

Back up PGs tend to get a lot of minutes against opposition's 2nd unit as well. ZO will have tougher defensive assignment starting against star PGs in this league.

if his numbers show what you're saying. and we know he does a lot of intangible things on the court defensively. You have to take it all into account. stats, advanced stats, and eye test. stop taking the stats only, stop taking the eye test only. add them all up. what do you have? an elite defender in today's super soft officiated league that calls fouls if you cough near a guy. That means a ton.
