Biden has an attack dog in the Lincoln Project. He doesn't have to play dirty they're doing it for him free of charge.

Corrupt through and through. There is no bottom. This is what he was impeached for. Remember that whole quid pro quo thing? This is happening because Republicans let him off the hook and opened the floodgates to further corruption of the election. Vote every single Republican out of office.

NYT: Lawmakers ‘Alarmed’ by Reports U.S. Envoy Told Brazil It Could Help Re-elect Trump

Quote:
The House Foreign Affairs Committee has begun an inquiry into multiple reports in the Brazilian media that the U.S. ambassador was framing negotiations over ethanol tariffs in partisan terms.

Quote:
Members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee said Friday they were “extremely alarmed” by assertions that the American ambassador in Brazil had signaled to Brazilian officials they could help get President Trump re-elected by changing their trade policies.

In a letter sent Friday afternoon, Committee Chairman Eliot L. Engel demanded that the ambassador, Todd Chapman, produce “any and all documents referring or related to any discussions” he has held with Brazilian officials in recent weeks about their nation’s tariffs on ethanol, an important agricultural export for Iowa, a potential swing state in the American presidential election.

The committee’s letter was sent in response to reports in the Brazilian news media this week saying that Mr. Chapman, a career diplomat, made it clear to Brazilian officials they could bolster Mr. Trump’s electoral chances in Iowa if Brazil lifted its ethanol tariffs.

Eliminating tariffs would give the Trump administration a welcome trade victory to present to struggling ethanol producers in Iowa, where the president is in a close race with his Democratic rival, Joseph R. Biden Jr.

Lawrence Tribe (Constitutional scholar) in on Joy Reid show and makes a point several have made the last few days (except I was afraid to believe them):

If for whatever reason after the election, chaos reigns, and Trump disputes the election and tries to sue, and swing state or red state governors try to muck things up -- and if there is still no clear winner by January 20th, Trump has to exit the White House and Nancy Pelosi becomes President. This is the failsafe built into the system.

Quote:

·
For nearly 90 years, the Constitution has contained a built-in safeguard against presidents who try to retain power beyond the end of their term: presidential power automatically passes to the House Speaker at noon on January 20 if the incumbent muddies the waters enough.

CNN: McConnell signal to Republican Senate candidates: Distance from Trump if necessary

Quote:
Sen. Mitch McConnell is allowing Republican Senate candidates to do whatever it takes to salvage their campaigns ahead of what Republicans increasingly fear could be a devastating election for their party.

In recent weeks, the Senate majority leader has become so concerned over Republicans losing control of the Senate that he has signaled to vulnerable GOP senators in tough races that they could distance themselves from the President if they feel it is necessary, according to multiple senior Republicans including a source close to McConnell.

That could mean breaking with Trump on the administration's response to the coronavirus pandemic and the continued efforts by the President to paint an optimistic picture despite rising cases and deaths across parts of the country, especially in many Republican states in the South and Midwest.

While this may give some senators the flexibility to draw a distinction between themselves and the President, it also forces them to walk a tightrope. Trump remains enormously popular with the Republican base, and any attempts to undercut him risks alienating those voters.

Too late, MoscowMitch.

Said it over and over. Republicans would distance themselves not abandon Trump. It's happening. Trump is toxic.

No Republicans in government have actually split from Trump yet -- the article only says McConnell has given them permission to. Big difference.

(Mitt Romney not included because he has criticized him all along.)

I think this can be considered political.

NBA Approves 29 Social Justice Statements For Player Jerseys

LINK

Quote:
The reported list of approved social messages includes Black Lives Matter; Say Their Names; Vote; I Can’t Breathe; Justice; Peace; Equality; Freedom; Enough; Power to the People; Justice Now; Say Her Name; Sí Se Puede (Yes We Can); Liberation; See Us; Hear Us; Respect Us; Love Us; Listen; Listen to Us; Stand Up; Ally; Anti-Racist; I Am A Man; Speak Up; How Many More; Group Economics; Education Reform; and Mentor.
LeBron opted not to wear the message. It's okay he uses his voice vociferously off the court. The NBA also allows kneeling during the playing of the National Anthem.
Quote:
Earlier, the NFL said it would increase its commitment to social justice, donating $250 million to social justice causes. It also indicated that the so-called “Black National Anthem,” the song Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing, would be performed in some fashion before Week 1 games in the coming season.

Exactly. No one is truly distancing themselves from Trump. They are just putting on appearances to protect themselves optically. But they still support everything he does because it is in their best self-interest to do so. They still support his re-election. They aren't distancing themselves in any meaningful way that runs counter to him at all. Just in ways that makes them look better, while still serving Trump.

That is why it is so important to not buy into the ruse that they are distancing themselves from Trump. They aren't doing so in order to mitigate Trump or hinder Trump. They are simply doing so to ensure their own re-election. Which benefits Trump. They are actually encouraging and trying to further Trump's attempt at a reign.

I don't think they'll split from Trump. If they split they'd lose the base. I don't think they'll ask him to campaign for them. That's what I mean distancing themselves to be.

Which is why the idea of leveraging privatized mail to screw him on election day is awesome considering he wants to disassemble the USPS in an attempt to steal the election.

My initial reaction is: I don't trust privatized resources to respond to this mailing crisis. Companies are beholden to making money for their investors and the C-suite (CEOs, CFOs, COOs, etc.). Not upholding democracies.

But if we forget that initial reaction and put it to the side.
I do think there is some nuance here.

FedEx, UPS, and Amazon have their own fiscal priorities. Which aren't necessarily aligned with Trump staying in office.

Trump's too dumb to factor in secondary and tertiary effects. Elderly (a.k.a. Republican) people vote by mail more than anybody else. UPS and FedEx rely on the USPS to deliver in low population areas that it would cost them $ to deliver in. Bezos (who runs Amazon) doesn't like these tariffs as much as anybody.

I'm not really disagreeing with you. USPS is a major factor heading into November. And maybe private mailers could help. Mail in votes could be THEE factor depending on how things shake out. But thank God it's a complicated equation that surpasses Trump's cognitive ability.

Trump's approval goes from -9 to +2 with Rasmussen. Considering it's a three-day rolling average, he must have had 55% or so approval on the most recent day. It's blatantly fake.

But that's what they've done over the years. They're reasonable for a a while, and then try to change the narrative, hoping Trump's will tweet about it.

There's no denying religion is on the decline in America. Started with left leaning people and nowadays it's crossed over to both sides of the aisle.

Just saying that because politics is the new religion. I agree. No way Trump is up 2% with the whole electorate.
Just saying devout belief and support has now transitioned to politics. And if we win in November. Trump will still be around 45% of the vote. Religious-like devotion supersedes massive death, unemployment, and discord.

Like we've said in this thread a million times. Republicans are indistinguishable from a cult. New information (and variables) changes nothing to them. It all can be explained away with irrational, unwavering dedication.

Good news is. We selected the best candidate we have to come out on top considering the variables (Biden).

And revert to their reasonable mode at the very end, near election day, so that they appear to be accurate and not as biased as they are throughout the year, when charging up the flock.

I dunno. Considering Trump's "love" for Bezos (Amazon), they are certainly one company that I trust won't skew and election for Trump. And because these company's are indeed profit motivated, and I don't think they want some kind of scandal about an election hanging over them, I think they can be depended upon in a pinch. Lastly, the USPS already relies on private mailers to assist them by providing discounted rates for processing (sorting, traying, delivering) the mail--the finer the processing, the greater the discount.

Just an observation about the VP race -- in the last several days many white male journalists, white male pundits and white male former politicians have been giving both Kamala Harris and Susan Rice the Hillary Clinton treatment. Basically calling them ambitious, divisive witches and lightening rods in different ways. It's gross.

I think Biden needs to put an end to the bashing and speculation and just make a pick. Like now.

It won't end the bashing, merely concentrate it into one person.

I get your point but leaving it hanging out there too long is creating unnecessary Democrat vs Democrat angst and is really pissing off black women. We all know the GOP will do what they do to any candidate. That's not what I'm talking about. Once a candidate is selected, they can defend themselves and Joe can defend them. Right now it's all out attacks on the black women and not much defense going on. It's a bad look.

Fair enough, and the word is they are making the choice in the next week or so (I suspect they made it a while back but have wanted to make sure everyone knows they've taken a very deliberate process).

FWIW, I will be proud to support whichever ambitious, qualified, competent woman he chooses.

As a side note, floating a bunch of candidates for a fair amount of time has allowed the team to see the reactions of Dems, independents, and the GOP to each and get a picture where they help and are vulnerable demographically and regionally. And format a game plan for the rollout of the selection. This is a quality brain trust he has, and I'm not going to second guess them without definitive reason.
