The folks I've been arguing with are telling me that the parties never realigned. That the democrat party that resisted the abolition of slavery is the exact same as the one today. Also, the southern strategy never happened.

It is insane how much supporting evidence gets hand waved away, but someone like Dinesh D'Souza gets elevated over something like the Encyclopedia Britannica, or the statements of 2005 RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman.

It is amazing the mental gymnastics they're willing to undergo just to not change their mind. Am I foolish to think I can change any of their minds with civil discussions?

Ah, Dinesh D’Souza...now there is a name I haven’t heard in a long, long time. Years ago I read a huge (in the number of pages) book he wrote titled The End of Racism. I’m a little fuzzy on the details, but I remember the book making some points that made sense, and some points that were frustrating...and I came away thinking this book isn’t helping race issues in America at all...that it would only hurt feelings, create resentment, and divide people further. It was an interesting read nonetheless.

I remember him being humiliated by Christopher Hitchens in "Does God Exist?" debates.

Of course he should be in the debates. He's already polling as a top-tier candidate. Get him on the stage so the people can hear what he has to say, whether good or bad.

Because he has spent like near a half a billion on ads and such
Under his tax plan he would save 3 billion a year vs under Bernie or Warren

I'm not saying I support him. I'm simply saying that if he's a top candidate, he should be on the stage. Steyer has also spent hundreds of millions of dollars, for example, yet he has barely registered a blip. He should not be on the stage.

He could probably find that in his couch cushions.
And there's nothing inherently wrong with being that rich.
It just puts you in a bubble that makes it tough to connect with the rest of us.

To put into perspective how rich Bloomberg is. If he woke up tomorrow with Donald Trump's money. He'd fall into a deep depression and would probably be put on suicide watch.

Which makes me wonder how much money would Trump ask for to throw the election in Bloomberg's favor in exchange for no investigations? Five billion?

I don't think Trump is a real billionaire. It's why (among other reasons) he'll never release his tax returns. Real billionaires have reportedly said the same thing.
It's why Trump charges the government thousands of dollars to stay in his hotels. He wants/needs that money. I mean this is a guy who managed to bankrupt a casino (our economy is next).
He'd probably bow out gracefully for 8 figures. Only thing that would stop him is if he thinks he could make more money staying in office.

Bernie is beating Trump in every national poll

I think Trump actually sort of respects Bernie because of ... crowd size. His mind is so simple. He sees that Bernie's crowd sizes are massive like his, so he immediately gains his respect. I doubt there is some underlying trick to him not going after Bernie.

I think Trump wants Bernie. But he's biting off more than he realizes he can chew.

Alot of Obama 2012 voters who were Trump 2016 voters wanted an "outsider".

And alot of them have been left behind in Trump's "great economy" where consumer debt has exceeded $14 trillion.

I like Bernie. I don't think he'll get much accomplished as president however. But people are counting out the grassroots support that his campaign has developed over the last few years. He's a force to be reckoned with. I think he wins the D nomination unless the DNC screws him over. If it's him vs. Trump, I have no idea who wins. It'll basically be the two extremes of the right and left going at each other. Some of Bernie's plans worry me. But thinking of 4 more years of Trump, with the chains loosened, oh boy.

Any Dem who wants to defeat Trump needs to expose the faux "great economy" we're in presently. If enough of the debt is riskily bundled together. The market will do the work for them.

It's only a matter of time. But until then, it'll be hard to expose anything as long as the loudest voices keep lying and people believe them.

I stay away from the usage of "neoliberal". But, in general, I don't disagree with what this person wrote online.

Quote:
Neoliberal easy credit expansion as a fix for rising inequality and lack of growth isn't the answer anymore. Trump and his supporters think he is the second coming of Reagan, but he is using debt expansion economics from the 80's. We've already had 30 years of loose monetary policy, Yeah sure the economy will boost a little but personal debt levels are the highest level they've ever been while interest rates at historical lows. Neoliberalism is great at creating bubbles that make wealthy people wealthy and corporations but it sucks at distributing wealth. A socialist redistribution would be a huge investment and set us up for long term growth but our policy is going in the wrong direction. Deregulation and monetary expansion in a near zero interest rate environment is ridiculously irresponsible and setting us up for a crash bigger than 2008.

Similar to how most people view trump in 2016 (for different reasons of course), hope Bernie can pull it off, Biden done lost his mojo, week and a half til Super Tuesday

Finally a poll from Nevada. Bernie is up by 7 over Biden. Everybody else is under 15%

Biden is up by 8 over Bernie in South Carolina. Everybody else under 15%.

If this is how it ends up, only those two will get delegates in those two states.

This is why a crowded field is good for Bernie, especially if no one drops out until Super Tuesday.

Interesting how Latino Nevada and Latino in general has Bernie as their top pick, looks like Bernie might’ve taken some of Warren’s base too. Also interesting how Bloomberg is taking AA support from Biden while Pete is straight up jacked Biden’s white base. Dark horse is Klobuchar who is seemingly taking a bite out of everybody’s base.
Anybody think we have a chance outside of Biden?

Is that a serious question? Of course we do. All the major candidates can beat him, but they can also lose to him. We have no idea what's gonna happen, and those that know for certain that specific candidates will win or lose are full of (bleep).
