Ohio Republicans Join the Fight Against Inconvenient Democracy
How will John Kasich, a Man with Plans, react?

GOP state lawmakers in Wisconsin, Michigan look to curb power of incoming Democratic officeholders

It's not the first time Republican legislators worked to curb the powers of an incoming Democratic administration—Republicans in North Carolina introduced a series of bills in the 2016 lame duck before Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper took power that shifted the balance of power toward the GOP-controlled legislature.

THis is one of those easy things you can look at if you're trying to decide which side to be on. One side suppresses the vote and looks to take away the other side's ability to govern even when they lose power.

They play to win and they're effective. It's easy to see why people would want that in their legislators.

It's not a sports team. Tough to root for people who want to take away voting rights. Which is the foundation of our democracy.

Authoritarian dictators play to win and are effective. Should we root for one of those too.

Mueller's investigation is revealing more and more. This has to be a planned action to be sure the probe is not halted. For some the hens are coming home to roost. As yet I don't see any damage to Frump. He got the nickname Teflon Don and it's so far fitting.

EDIT: MAY HE REST IN PEACE. In respect for GHWB I would have liked to see his family take the stance the McCain family did and not invite Trump to the funeral.

I haven't seen the market this unstable since the last recession. Scary stuff.

Can't help but wonder what things would look like if Trump and the Republicans allowed policy that would strengthen the US consumers.

You can't ask the sitting President to skip a former President's funeral . . .

EDIT: Can't means you won't! I don't think not inviting Trump would be disrespecting the office. It would send a message to the present occupant, as did the McCain's.

You really think the dumbass at the WH would've gone to the funeral if he had a choice? Any semblance of decorum or good manners has been forced on him by his enablers.

That's not the point.

The Mueller filing on Flynn has just dropped. He's apparently given "substantial assistance" and Mueller is apparently not seeking jail time for him.

I'm sure Whitaker knows what was redacted, which means Trump knows. Unhinged tweeting should ensue shortly.

I miss 2008-2016. When we all knew a qualified, relatable, sensible, sane person occupied the most important position in the world. Even when I disagreed with him (tough drone usage in the middle east, illegal immigration deportation numbers, not for gay marriage till 2012). I still felt like he heard and understood my side. And sometimes changed (with time) to meet it.

Trump isn't even an average President. He's arguably the worst President who ever lived when you factor in all the knowledge accessible and sensibilities in each time period.

If, for example, Mitt Romney or Jeb won the Presidency in 2016 (the same party rarely wins the Presidency 3 times in a row).
At least we could tread water in terms of some policy. Meanwhile with Trump we've gone backwards with environmental policy, economic policy, foreign policy, immigration policy, etc. As a country, we're heading backwards during a crux moment. It''s probably beyond recovery.

I hope so. Trump is stupid enough to tweet something about whats been redacted. He's going to dig a hole so deep if he were in the service at war he'd be charged with desertion.

That a good sign if you're a Trump detractor isn't it?

You want a great synopsis? Read Seth Abramson's Twitter feed thread:

Abramson has been in the habit of being right about what he saw coming, much more so than a lot of the media pundits.

"Maybe he did. Maybe he didn't"

-Donald Trump

But senator after senator leaving the CIA briefing said there's no doubt that bin Salman was involved, adding that the United States cannot ignore the matter.

I Will Not Speak Kindly of the Dead. Bush Was Detestable.

This has been running through my mind the last several days while hearing people prattle on about what a great and honorable man HW was for "serving his country".

The man is no different than W nor Trump. He just had the wisdom and cunning to put on a polite, "Aw gee shucks" nice guy act.

I would argue he was actually a worse man than Trump. Trump is just a gross conman manipulating the system and engaging in corruption for his own financial gain and ego strokes. HW was a conniving and sinister guy who utilized his experience and clout as the former head of the CIA to engage in truly evil deeds for truly evil purposes.

Amy Klobuchar says she's considering a run for president.

I think she'd very effective against Trump, especially in a debate. She's quick, smart, and has folksy appeal.

Agreed. The midterms reveal how effective she can be.

I've said this before, but I love Klobuchar. I'm starting to warm to a Beto-Klobuchar ticket (in some order), as I think they balance each other well, similar to how Obama and Biden did. I agree that Amy has that folksy, Midwest appeal that could play well among moderates and independents in that part of the country, and Beto, though young and relatively inexperienced (at least he was a two-term Congressman), obviously has wonderful communication skills and charisma.

My current 3 favorite potential presidential candidates are the two I mentioned above, along with Cory Booker.

a rock would beat trump in a debate but he would just declare victory, his lemmings would agree and the media would report it that way.

Andrew Johnson, Andrew Jackson, Richard Nixon, William G. Harding, Herbert Hoover, and George W. Bush were all worse presidents, but Trump combines many of their worst traits in one man and has been trying his damnedest to be as bad as those men were in 3-8 years in office in only two.

Given a second term, I have no doubt Trump would surpass even those mediocrities and bad men.
