Not that I think the Democrats have the 17 votes from the Republicans that would be needed to convict Trump, but perhaps Portman is free to vote yes now that he's not seeking reelection. Or maybe I'm hoping for too much even with this news.

Oh no, Kellyanne Conway is trending, and it's for despicable reasons even for her. Of course, the feud with her 16-year-old daughter is ongoing. Well, apparently Kellyanne posted nude photos of her daughter. I mean, this is child pornography.
Assuming this is actually true (it's not like I'm going to look for visual proof), she needs to go to jail. And not for a short time, either.

Fauci says he worried Trump's disinfectant comment would make people 'start doing dangerous and foolish things'
By Paul LeBlanc, CNN
Updated 10:05 PM ET, Mon January 25, 2021
Washington (CNN)Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation's leading infectious disease expert, said Monday evening he was extremely worried by former President Donald Trump's dangerous April suggestion that ingesting disinfectant could possibly be used to treat Covid-19.
"I just said, 'Oh my goodness gracious.' I could just see what's going to happen," Fauci told CNN's Erin Burnett on "Out Front" of Trump's suggestion.
"You're going to have people who hear that from the President and they're going to start doing dangerous and foolish things, which is the reason why, immediately, those of us who were not there said, 'This is something you should not do.' Be very explicit. The (US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) came out, I think, the next day and put in one of their publications, 'Do not do this.'"
At an April White House news conference, Trump had mused about whether disinfectants could be used to treat the virus in humans -- asking whether there is "a way we can do something like that, by injection inside or almost a cleaning."
He later falsely claimed he was being sarcastic and that he was prompting officials to look into the effect of disinfectant on hands -- not through ingestion or injection. But the comments prompted cleaning product companies and state health officials to issue warnings about the dangers of their ingestion.
Biden aims to tackle another American crisis: Race
Analysis by Stephen Collinson, CNN
Updated 7:35 AM ET, Tue January 26, 2021
(CNN)If there was any doubt about the urgency of President Joe Biden's mission to tackle racial inequality, it was erased in the searing moment an insurrectionist rioter brazenly paraded the Confederate flag through the US Capitol.
Just 20 days on from one of the most shocking moments in modern US history, Biden on Tuesday will make his most detailed policy moves yet on the issue with a series of executive orders on the one crisis haunting his presidency sure to endure once Covid-19 and its economic pain are just a horrible memory.
He will press ahead in the looming shadow of his predecessor Donald Trump after House Democrats on Monday delivered an article of impeachment relating to his role inciting the Capitol riot.
The uprising, incited by an ex-President who fueled white nationalism, underscored how America's oldest fault line is also one of its freshest following last summer's national racial reckoning.
Yet subsequent events have also left a sense that while the country has rarely been more divided since a Civil War that was fought over slavery, progress is possible and as necessary as ever.
...
What Biden plans to do
Biden's effort will require action from the Justice Department to tackle civil rights abuses and to guarantee fairness in the judicial system for all. Former national security adviser Susan Rice has a new White House job, leading the Domestic Policy Council, which includes racial equity among its sweeping menu of responsibilities.
Biden on Tuesday will sign executive actions establishing a commission on policing, partly in response to the death of Minnesota man George Floyd with a policeman's knee on his neck last year.
He is also expected to order improvements in prison conditions and to mandate the Department of Housing and Urban Development to promote equitable housing policies.
Last week, in the first hours of his presidency, Biden signed an executive order requiring all government departments to put racial and other forms of equality at the center of everything that they do during his term.
One established that "advancing equity for all -- including people of color and others who have been historically underserved and marginalized -- is the responsibility of the whole of our government." Biden also countermanded an earlier executive order signed by Trump.

Congress needs to investigate this. Who directed the Pentagon ahead of Jan. 6th to implement this? A Trump political lackey for instance? How many different ways did Trump commit treason? And part of this may have been because Pentagon was burned and spooked by Trump's improper use of troops in his famous teargassing of peaceful protestors so he could get a photo op.
The commander of the D.C. National Guard said the Pentagon restricted his authority ahead of the riot at the U.S. Capitol, requiring higher level sign-off to respond that cost time as the events that day spiraled out of control.
Local commanders typically have the power to take military action on their own to save lives or prevent significant property damage in an urgent situation when there isn’t enough time to obtain approval from headquarters.
But Maj. Gen. William J. Walker, the commanding general of the District of Columbia National Guard, said the Pentagon essentially took that power and other authorities away from him ahead of a pro-Trump protest on Jan. 6. That meant he couldn’t immediately roll out troops when he received a panicked phone call from the Capitol Police chief warning that rioters were about to enter the U.S. Capitol.
“All military commanders normally have immediate response authority to protect property, life, and in my case, federal functions — federal property and life,” Walker said in an interview. “But in this instance I did not have that authority.”
Walker and former Army secretary Ryan D. McCarthy are set to brief the House Appropriations Committee on Tuesday behind closed doors about the events, the beginning of what is likely to become a robust congressional inquiry into the preparations for a rally that devolved into a riot at the Capitol, leaving five people dead and representing a significant security failure.

President Biden's presser was very uplifting. I can't express the joy I feel knowing we have an adult in the Oval Office.
McConnell backed down on his fight over the filibuster. Ol' Pollyanna jodeke is holding on to the hope of a productive honeymoon. We have the means, we should use them while they're in place. Bear in mind Mitch backed down primarily due to two Dem senators assuring him they won't vote to kill it, so that will bear watching... _________________ “We must always take sides. Do we have enough aye's to defeat Mitch's expectation even if the 2 vote to not kill the filibuster? If so they may have given those assurances to have Mitch step back. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

We have 50 of 100 votes (which allows the VP to break a tie) we can't have a single no. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented.” ― Elie Wiesel

Thanks for the 50 50 memory jog. If it comes to a vote we win. I'd bet the condo the VP will vote in favor of Dems. In essence, we have enough votes _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I don't think that is right. VP only votes if there is a 50 50 tie. If Manchin and the other vote no then it's not 50 50, it's 52 48 against. If even just one of them vote no, it is 51 49 and Dems will lose (unless some R's vote yes).
In other words, cannot lose any Dem votes. Have to hold all and if it comes down to 50 50 along strict party lines, then Harris breaks the vote for the D's. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman

Right. I didn't consider there wouldn't be a tie if 2 Dems voted with Republicans. Like I say all the time I'm slow on the uptake but usually get there. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Before anyone thinks Trump has a chance of being convicted, 45 of 50 republican senators voted that they think the impeachment trial is unconstitutional.

Not quite as easy for Vlad as dealing with Donnie-boy, I'm sure.
I read that Putin requested the call, and Biden put him off until after he had spoken to allies such as Germany, France and UK and Biden spoke with NATO also before he spoke to Putin. Plus he actually consulted with his advisors about the conversation before he sat down to chat.
Russian readout described it as "businesslike and frank" which is diplomatic speak for tense I think. _________________ “There is always light if only we're brave enough to see it, if only we're brave enough to be it.” --Amanda Gorman
