What did you all think about Biden looking into the camera and talking to America? I thought that was pretty effective. It cut right through my cynicism, and I felt it.

Well both people on the left and right agree on one thing, Chris Wallace sucked. Righties online think Chris Wallace sucked because he corrected Trump a few times, and how dare he. The rest of us think he sucked because he had zero ability to control Trump.

Biden will continue I think. He knows it's part of the job of running for the office. He showed a lot of patience. Obviously he has raised toddlers.

With Biden I always get the feeling he genuinely cares about Americans, and I felt it there too. Everything he does may not be perfect, but Joe is a compassionate, empathetic man who cares about people and it shows.

It seemed like he was talking to the country. It exuded sincerity.

Agreed, I thought it was great.

That caused a chuckle.

Biden talking to the camera/people was nice, but I was also impressed by how forcefully he stood up for his sons.

As I said on @ABC tonight, this debate was embarrassing internationally, and it was embarrassing for our fellow citizens. And it wasn’t embarrassing because of the moderator, it wasn’t embarrassing because of Joe Biden. It was embarrassing because of President Trump.

True, Wallace needed a mute button.

Biden had so much material to exploit Trump and yet he looked inarticulate and confused. It was frustrating as Kamela Harris would have roasted him alive. Did Joe Biden win? Sure, but given the material he was subpar.

Wallace's messy moderation pissed me off because Joe was about to make a stand about Beau Biden and Wallace clamped down after Trump's Hunter pivot and robbed Joe of that message. Awful timing.

Trump, in this debate--and most other places--sounds like: an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Most amazing thing about that is like 60+ million people in this county apparently want that in a president.

Trump is a lunatic and he once more embarrassed the country.

Biden had some good moments, but he could have done much more. I think he'll do better in the next two debates, assuming we will have them.

Nothing really changes in terms of electoral prospects. Biden will still be ahead.

I agree with this assessment. Joe was solid, but not ferocious like he would've been in 08. All of his punches landed, but just as many punches weren't taken. Hopefully that means that he's saving them for the next debates.

Luckily, Trump did most of Biden's work for him. That's just how it's going to have to be with this style of "moderation".

Men and women see this differently. I think Biden showed enormous patience and maturity. Men seem to think he should have yelled louder than Trump or gotten down in the mud with him. I think he did the best he could in a horrible circumstance. And I'm glad he didn't try to out-Trump Trump. One loud bully and a terrible moderator was off-putting enough.

If anyone will cancel the next debate, it'll be Drumpf cause he knows the other networks won't be so easy on his Adderall Riddled self.

Biden isn’t a master debater. And given the onslaught he wasn’t going to get much chance even if he was. What he was was sane, rational, empathetic, and exasperated but not losing his cool. That’s what he needed to be. You’d like a few more zingers but that’s really partisan because those don’t move the other side. Biden didn’t scare white women. Trump likely did. And that’s really all the turf there is to fight over. That and base turnout.

So standard (bleep) from Trump. He's doing what all Con Artists do. He primed his message with a lie.

"People are coming up to tell me this." It's not true, but now it's stuck in your brain (for the ones who are easily manipulated). And then he extends on that lie.

It's how he is manipulating, by priming the message with really, a lot of fake information to drive his message across.

Absolute lies for anyone who can see it. For the ones that can't, well they'll never notice until someone truly points it out to them and make that case airtight.

He's such a (bleep).

Yes, for both of them, I appreciated that.

anecdote on viewership/engagement FWIW. One of my best friends is a Michigander. He lives a deep red part of northern Michigan. He's blue collar, he comes from blue collars, all of his friends are blue collar. He was raised conservative but supported Bernie in the last 2 elections. His extended social circle is mostly disengaged politically but will vote red as a rule because they love guns and hate blacks and gays. They wore black on Obama's inauguration day. Some of them call the MLK holiday "<n-word>"day. Their only exposure to Biden, to date, has been through the "sleepy Joe", "cognitive decline" caricatures they're fed through youtube/facebook posts. My friend watched a debate for the first time in his life. He says all of his friends also watched the debate, their first one as well, and were surprised by how unsenile Biden was, and were bemused by how stupid and childish Trump sounded.

Trump has had almost a whole lifetime to practice and hone his lying and manipulation skills. Plus, he's had some effective & evil mentors.

Nevertheless, Trump is a blowhard.
