Wow, Biden must have immense powers if he can hurt God.

Trump sounds deranged.

Fun to watch

Didn't screw up a single state.

On the hand, there's our president who has screwed over each one.

Amid escalating tensions with both North Korea and Iran, President Donald Trump's advisers hesitated to give him military options fearing the President might accidentally take the US to war and deliberately informed their counterparts in both countries that they did not know what the President would do next, multiple former administration officials tell me.

Chuck Hagel, a former Republican senator who served as Defense Secretary under President Barack Obama said the situation was unprecedented.

Trump's unpredictability was not a national secret. US adversaries were keenly aware that his own advisers and the institutions and agencies they lead were often in the dark about the President's intentions and therefore sought to take advantage,

CNN: Biden calls Trump's 'hurt God' attack 'shameful'

Quote:
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden on Thursday countered President Donald Trump's baseless attack that he, a practicing Roman Catholic, would somehow "hurt God," calling the comments "shameful."

"Like so many people, my faith has been the bedrock foundation of my life: it's provided me comfort in moments of loss and tragedy, it's kept me grounded and humbled in times of triumph and joy. And in this moment of darkness for our country — of pain, of division, and of sickness for so many Americans — my faith has been a guiding light for me and a constant reminder of the fundamental dignity and humanity that God has bestowed upon all of us," Biden said.

"For President Trump to attack my faith is shameful. It's beneath the office he holds and it's beneath the dignity the American people so rightly expect and deserve from their leaders," he added.

Mitch McConnell still hasn't figured out a way to pass a new COVID relief package because a good portion of his GOP caucus doesn't want to give Americans any relief whatsoever. And he can't be bothered to personally negotiate with Democrats, leaving it to Mark "Tea Party" Meadows and Steve "let them eat cake" Mnuchin to work with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer.

So Mitch took off for the weekend to go back to Kentucky to campaign for himself.

And Trump is taking a 3-day golf weekend, flying into his New Jersey property last night.

Meanwhile, 160,000 have now died of COVID, people are having their homes foreclosed and being evicted from rental apartments. New projection says our death toll will be close to 300,000 by the end of the year.

As Nancy Pelosi said when asked about why Republicans don't seem to feel any urgency to pass a plan to give relief to struggling Americans, "Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn."

CNN: Intel officials tell Congress that Russia is spreading false information about Biden

Quote:
US intelligence officials have presented information to lawmakers and presidential campaigns indicating Russia is behind an ongoing disinformation push targeting former Vice President and presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, according to sources familiar with the matter.

But while Republicans and Democrats overwhelmingly agree that Russia is once again attempting to interfere the US presidential election, the two sides have emerged from recent election security briefings at odds over what the classified intelligence says about Moscow's intentions. The dispute mirrors how the two sides sparred over the Russian interference campaign in the 2016 election as GOP and Democratic leaders privately battled during the heat of that campaign about how much they should disclose to the public.

On Friday the intelligence community's top election security official William Evanina put out the clearest statement yet that the intelligence community believes Russia is working to hurt Biden while stating that China and Iran are attempting to damage Trump.

"We assess that Russia is using a range of measures to primarily denigrate former Vice President Biden and what it sees as an anti-Russia 'establishment,' "the statement said.

"Pro-Russia Ukrainian parliamentarian Andriy Derkach is spreading claims about corruption -- including through publicizing leaked phone calls -- to undermine former Vice President Biden's candidacy and the Democratic Party. Some Kremlin-linked actors are also seeking to boost President Trump's candidacy on social media and Russian television," Evanina added.

Quote:
Democrats are making the case that intelligence reviewed by members of Congress and both campaigns adds up to a broader Russian interference effort intended to damage Biden's candidacy and, in turn, help President Donald Trump.

However, Republicans argue that there is not clear evidence that foreign actors seeking to interfere in the 2020 race, prefer one candidate over the other.

Because they too are complicit with helping Russians smear Biden to help Trump. Lying hypocrite traitors.

A top U.S. intelligence official released a statement Friday that details the intelligence community’s current assessment of possible interference in the November elections. William Evanina raised concerns “about the ongoing and potential activity by China, Russia and Iran.” Yamiche Alcindor and Lisa Desjardins join Judy Woodruff to discuss the political reaction to the warning.

Judy Woodruff:

So, amid this impasse over coronavirus relief, there were also some new developments today on another major issue, the security of this November's elections.

A top U.S. intelligence official, William Evanina, released a statement that details the intelligence community's current assessment of potential foreign interference.

Lisa Desjardins:

Talking to Hill sources, they point out that Evanina is not seen as political, but as someone who is almost an American patriot, a longtime civil servant.

They also say this, Judy. Democrats say there's a difference between what China is doing and what Russia is doing, that Russia is acting on their capabilities more than China, Russia acting to take down Vice President Biden.

Yamiche Alcindor:

The White House, today, officials tell me, are really focused on making sure that our elections are safe. They say they're not going to tolerate any sort of foreign interference and that they're working with all 50 states, as well as social media companies, to keep the election safe.

That said, President Trump has been loath to talk about election interference, first in 2016, when the intelligence community said that Russia was interfering on his behalf, and now in 2021, when they say Russia is doing the same thing.

Bar Complaint Claims Kanye West’s Campaign Lawyer is Violating the Rules by Simultaneously Working For Trump

As a black person. I'm insulted by this whole situation. Black people didn't vote for Kamala because they didn't believe in her electability. Black people didn't even vote for Barack till he won meaningful Dem caucuses. We're skeptics by nature, (maybe?) design, and necessity. But all of a sudden we're gonna vote for Kanye in THIS election?

This is truly a plan made by someone (Trump) who thinks African Americans are sub-human in terms of intelligence. And Kanye will be a pariah by 2021. He's only had a pass this long because of his deficient mental health. And admittedly, mental health hasn't been taken seriously in our community for far too long.

No Relief in Sight
Negotiations over the next coronavirus bill have collapsed.

It was a minor miracle that Democratic leaders and White House negotiators even met Friday afternoon to discuss the stalled coronavirus relief package.

The Thursday evening negotiating sessions between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin—their tenth daily meeting in a row—had ended theatrically. According to Pelosi, Meadows had slammed the table in her suite of offices and walked out of the meeting, to which Pelosi said, “You are slamming the table on our children and our schools.” Meadows denied slamming anything, calling the story a “fabrication.”

These were not promising signs that a deal—one day before negotiators’ self-imposed deadline for reaching a tentative agreement and with the sides still trillions apart—was within reach.

Postal Service loses $2.2 billion in 3 months as virus woes persist

By ASSOCIATED PRESS
AUG. 7, 202012:17 PM

The U.S. Postal Service says it lost $2.2 billion in the three months that ended in June as the beleaguered agency — hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic — piles up financial losses that officials warn could top $20 billion over two years.

But the new postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, disputed reports that his agency is slowing down election mail or any other mail and said it has “ample capacity to deliver all election mail securely and on time” for the November presidential contest, when a significant increase in mail-in ballots is expected.

Pelosi has the leverage and she knows it, so she’s not going to sell out cheap. There’s going to be a coalition of vulnerable republicans knocking on her door soon. She just has to wait out the grandstanding leadership.

2020 polls tighten: Trump narrows gap with Biden as campaign chief credits coronavirus briefings

Trump trailing Biden by just over 6 points in RCP national average

President Trump has been narrowing the gap in recent weeks with Democratic challenger Joe Biden both in national polling and in some key battlegrounds — a development his new campaign manager is crediting in part to his relaunched coronavirus briefings.

This is not to say the president is in comeback territory. His approval ratings remain deeply underwater, and he's trailed Biden in virtually every national poll since the beginning of the year, even before the coronavirus pandemic, racial unrest and more presented an unprecedented test to his presidency.

The latest RealClearPolitics national polling average, though, shows Trump trailing Biden by just over six points, compared with nine points a month ago.

More significantly, the race is tightening in some key swing states.

In Florida, Biden is leading by four points, according to the RCP average, down from roughly eight points in late July.

Canada slaps back at new Trump tariffs with $2.7B in aluminum duties

Canada says new tariffs are part of a "swift and strong" response to Trump's new duties

Canada has vowed to impose $2.7 billion in retaliatory tariffs against the United States in what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government is calling a “swift and strong” response to President Trump's order reinstating 10% duties on the country’s aluminum.

The figure was announced Friday by Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland during a press conference in which she blasted Trump’s decision as one that will “hurt the economic recovery on both sides of the border” during the global coronavirus outbreak.

“In imposing these tariffs, the United States has taken the absurd decision to harm its own people at a time when its economy is suffering the deepest crisis since the Great Depression,” she told reporters.

I'm glad she's not giving in...

All of a sudden Repugnicants are worried about the deficit and the 3 trillion dollars the Democrats want?! They don't care about the deficit: They care about not helping the poor & working poor & working class & (disappearing) middle class...unless it also benefits the rich, elite, and powerful.

Nope, they didn't care about adding to the deficit when it was tax cuts for the wealthy but with unemployment >10% in the middle of a freaking pandemic, they don't want $600 a week going to working people to pay rent and put food on the table. I hope the entire GOP goes down in flames.

Ehh. I dunno. Most reports are saying the biggest hurdle to a bill right now are far right Republicans. More specifically Senators further right than McConnell. I appreciate Pelosi. But I don't agree with what you're saying in this instance.

I underlined Senators because they are more moderate by design than other Republicans in the legislature (House GOP). Which further prooves the extreme polarity in 2020 US politics coming from the right that's creating this problem right now.

BULLSHEIT!!! I have five orders out that are long overdue, with one from SF, which is normally a one-day delivery for Priority Mail, is out 17 days. I could walk to SF and back, and there again, and back and there again, several times. I don't blame my carrier or the USPS in general. This is on Trump.
