Trump: Democrats are the ones causing the government to continue it's shut down. It's within my power to work on behalf of our citizens. On their behalf I'm reopening the government and going to the negotiation table. We will have the wall built but not at the expense of the American people. MAGA. Does Trump have spell casting abilities? People are blatantly lying for him. Is he using voo doo or are they just plain stuuupid? He's going to throw all of them under the bus, except Vladimir. Quote: | The special counsel’s office has issued a rare public statement disputing the accuracy of a news report saying that President Donald Trump told his personal attorney Michael Cohen to lie to Congress.
The statement by Robert Mueller’s office on Friday night doesn’t cite any specific errors.
Spokesman Peter Carr says, “BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and characterization of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”

I wonder if Buzzfead got any part of the story correct. Only time will tell. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Not accurate leaves a lot of room...
If the actual percent was 98.9 and they reported 98.6 it would not be accurate
Has to be part CYA I'd imagine.. that leak came from someone close to Mueller, no? |

Probably. That's why I say it's time to wrap it up. A once very tight ship is beginning to spring leaks. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Chuck Rosenberg says that the statement by the SC isn't directly disputing the core story, while Matthew Miller says that it is.

Various interpretations I've heard:
- While this kind of news would have resulted in no action from Congress last year, things have changed with the new House and people began talking about impeachment and Mueller wants to finish his investigation and for Congress not to rush.
- Trump organization documents, text messages, and emails have to do with the Trump Tower project, not with Trump instructing Cohen to lie. Either the Buzzfeed reporters interpreted it wrong, or their sources interpreted it wrong. If that's the case, it's a he said he said between Trump and Cohen.
- Mueller wants to make it clear that his people didn't leak this.
- Mueller is just buying time and not attacking any specific details of the story, giving Trump false hope. Trump is already acting like he's been exonerated.
Meanwhile, both Giuliani and Trump have tweeted about this and seized on it. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

Heard a couple of things today, one on my morning commute, the other on my evening commute.
-- Buzzfeed author admitted that he hadn't seen the direct evidence, just relying on sources who had seen it. Just from that (before Mueller's "hold on" came out) I thought that he sounded like he wanted it to be right, not that he was sure he was right.
-- Maddow reported that Ronan Farrow had been given the same information, but had passed on it, saying that he talked to other sources who were saying there was no hard evidence. |

It would not surprise me if the source was working on behalf of trump. Best way to preempt a charge you know is coming would be to take that charge, add on some inaccurate stuff, attack it when it gets reported, and then when the real charge comes you’ve poisoned the well. _________________ “We must always take sides. I believe it was a trump leak

Certainly possible. But the reporters that wrote the story have a good reputation and wouldn't be duped easily. Who knows. But something obviously went wrong in the process of reporting.
It's interesting that both Graham and Klobuchar basically predicted this story through their questioning the other day. Which adds legitimacy to your theory that something big is coming and Trump's people wanted to get ahead of it. _________________ ¡Hala Madrid! |

Maybe. But this (bleep) has been going on for a loooooong time now without the "something big" actually coming despite the constant hints that it should.
Which is why we all need to prepare ourselves for the apparently obvious eventuality that there is nothing that is tangible enough to hold Trump responsible in any meaningful fashion. Thus, it's glaringly apparent that the only resolution to this mess is to vote him out in 2020. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

Yup. That's why I stopped focusing on the Russia stuff awhile ago. All these people that keep saying "THE WALLS ARE CLOSING IN!!" for the past two years are just making themselves feel better in their own bubble. Focus on 2020, let everything else settle out as it comes out. All these people jumping on these poorly sourced BREAKING NEWS stories are not doing themselves any favors. It makes the Trump line of "fake news" sound somewhat credible when CNN and MSNBC run their entire day of stories around things like this buzzfeed report. |

Your take is correct and logical, but I can’t shake the feeling that mueller has something tangible. When you see how sloppy Trump is when he knows he’s being watched, I can’t imagine he pulled all this off without slipping up. _________________ “We must always take sides. I agree with all of that. But it's not about how sloppy Trump is. He's left a paper trail to his dishonesty and foolishness his entire public life and look where he is.
It's about what the political system is going to be able to accomplish between now and November 2020. It's become pretty obvious that it's not much. _________________ You thought God was an architect, now you know

I agree. There may be enough for the house to impeach, but the findings will have to be earth shattering for Republicans in the Senate to vote him out of office. Highly unlikely in my opinion, and I say this believing he conspired with the Russians and continues to have secret back room deals with Putin of one sort or another. |

If one were to actually read the Buzzfeed story (now updated to reflect Mueller's response--which says a lot about honest reporting), they could see there are so many areas that could make the story not accurate, but still be accurate as to the thrust of the accusation.
Just look at the subhead:
Trump received 10 personal updates from Michael Cohen and encouraged a planned meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Maybe it was less than 10. Maybe some were to other members of Trump's team and not to Trump himself.
Here is another paragraph from the article
Quote: | And even as Trump told the public he had no business deals with Russia, the sources said Trump and his children Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. received regular, detailed updates about the real estate development from Cohen, whom they put in charge of the project. |
Maybe this is not 100% accurate, but it doesn't mean Trump did not say "Get it done" either.
One could go through the article and find dozens of these.
On the other hand, it seems to me something like this would not warrant a response from the Mueller team, so this is just curiouser and curiouser, one of the more interesting chapters in this fascinating story.
Read the article here and see for yourself. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

Trump in Moscow: what happened at Miss Universe in 2013
Quote: | Before leaving the US for his big Russian show in 2013, Trump made an unusual public appeal.
“Do you think Putin will be going to The Miss Universe Pageant in November in Moscow,” he asked on Twitter, and “if so, will he become my new best friend?” A source in Moscow told the Guardian that a meeting with Trump was indeed pencilled into Putin’s diary by aides, but fell off his schedule a few days beforehand.
Agalarov later said that Putin sent his apologies to Trump in the form of a handwritten note and a gift of a traditional decorative lacquered box. It is not known whether Trump met any associates of Putin in lieu of the president himself, but he certainly claimed to have.
“I was with the top-level people, both oligarchs and generals, and top-of-the-government people,” he said in a radio interview in 2015. “I can’t go further than that, but I will tell you that I met the top people, and the relationship was extraordinary.” |
And I guess laundering money before that
https://www.businessinsider.com/donald-trump-jr-said-money-pouring-in-from-russia-2018-2
Quote: | A 2008 quote from President Donald Trump's eldest son about his family's assets resurfaced on Sunday in a New York Times op-ed article.
"In terms of high-end product influx into the US, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets," Donald Trump Jr. said at a New York real-estate conference that year. "Say, in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo, and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia." |

I agree, but whether they can get the republicans to act is different than does mueller actually have something tangible. I think mueller has something tangible on trump, and that the GOP has already sold themselves out and won’t move if a base that loves trump won’t make them.
