Republicans in Congress have expressed anger and shock about this happening, but will they actually do anything about it? We'll see. Because in almost every past instance they ended up going along with Trump and giving him a pass. |
Trust me. The expressions of disappointment and furrowing of brows will be at a fever pitch. |

McConnell says Senate Republicans might revisit Obamacare repeal
Quote: | Republicans could try again to repeal Obamacare if they win enough seats in U.S. elections next month, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said on Wednesday, calling a failed 2017 push to repeal the healthcare law a “disappointment.” |
Every single Democrat on the campaign trail right now should be shouting this from the roof tops. If GOP keeps control, they will immediately try to repeal ACA including gutting all coverage for pre-existing conditions. Health care is the number one issue voters say is on their mind (including Independents and Republicans) and almost all of us have a pre-existing condition.
McConnell also said the debt and deficit (that he caused through the tax cuts for the rich) is "troubling" and that he'll have to look at cutting Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security -- JUST AS EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT PREDICTED HE WOULD. Because TRICKLE DOWN ECONOMICS doesn't work. It's a scam. It didn't work under Reagan, Bush(s) or Trump. And every Democrat predicted that too.
So to sum up, if you want healthcare, social security and medicare, vote for the Democrats. If you'd like to possibly go bankrupt if your medical condition hits a rough spot, and you want to eat canned tuna in your old age, if you live that long, vote for Republicans. |

Well, if the Saudis get away with murdering a Washington Post journalist and Congress does nothing, we are one step closer to Trump thinking he could replicate it and get away with it. He's a malignant narcissistic sociopath without empathy who thinks he could get away with shooting someone on Fifth Avenue, and so far there has been no bottom. I pray I'm wrong. |

Yep, yep, yep and yep. Politics is so frustrating. These issues are all strongly favored by the people, yet we have Republicans in control of everything working against all. And . . . most of them will get re-elected. _________________ "A metronome keeps time by using a Ringo" |

My concern is that if they lose the majority in congress, the GOP will simply push a bunch of stuff through in the lame duck session, knowing they have the presidential veto and likely the senate (certainly enough votes to protect a veto), and can then stop the Dems from reversing the legislation. _________________ “We must always take sides. The new variable is Trump. People of color voted for Democrats more than Republicans prior to 2016.
But Trump ... he hasn't made decency a priority. Unlike all his predecessors in modern history.
Nobody will be talking about Warren next week, when Trump has done 3 crazy things by then. But lets not pretend the Dems started this. They didn't silence the moderates.
The Dem voters screwed up by ignoring midterms, state, local, and down ballot voting. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Saudis should remind the USA about all those

No real moral high ground when compared

The drone assassination program was started by President Bush, continued by President Obama, and President Trump is ramping it up. One of the early attacks authorized by the then newly sworn in President saw 23 Yemini citizens, including 10 children under the age of 12 brutally killed.

In fairness, the last president used drone strikes in a similar manner. But it's a whataboutism argument, where if you can find one bad thing about someone they can't criticize anything you do. Luring and murdering journalists who are critical of you is very different than targeting enemies in civilian areas and accepting collateral damage. They are both bad things IMO, but not of the same type. _________________ “We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Most of us knew Trump was/is a con-man and believed his businesses were shady. But now reporters have got the goods. I can only hope and pray that either Mueller has obtained the financial records, that Trump's accountant gave up the goods and that Trump's attorney also ratted him out. And with the business based in NY, hopefully he and his whole family eventually get prosecuted. They are a family of grifters.
If you don't have time to read the long investigative pieces in the NYT and ProPublica, the below is a good summary:
New Yorker: Is Fraud Part of the Trump Organization’s Business Model?
Quote: | What, exactly, is Donald Trump’s business? The Trump Organization is unusual in that it doesn’t appear to do the same thing for very long. It was a builder of apartments for the lower middle class, then a builder of luxury buildings and hotels, then a casino company, and, most recently, a brand-licensing firm, selling its name to anybody who wanted “trump” emblazoned on a building, bottled water, or whatever else. These are wildly different businesses. |
Quote: | It is becoming increasingly clear that, in the language of business schools, the Trump Organization’s core competency is in profiting from misrepresentation and deceit and, potentially, fraud. |
Quote: | This month, two incredible investigative stories have given us an opportunity to lift the hood of the Trump Organization, look inside, and begin to understand what the business of this unusual company actually is. It is not a happy picture. The Times published a remarkable report, on October 2nd, that showed that much of the profit the Trump Organization made came not from successful real-estate investment but from defrauding state and federal governments through tax fraud. This week, ProPublica and WNYC co-published a stunning story and a “Trump, Inc.” podcast that can be seen as the international companion to the Times piece. They show that many of the Trump Organization’s international deals also bore the hallmarks of financial fraud, including money laundering, deceptive borrowing, outright lying to investors, and other potential crimes. |
Quote: | The reporters—Heather Vogell and Peter Elkind of ProPublica, and Andrea Bernstein and Meg Cramer of WNYC—identified a similar pattern that occurred in deals around the world. The basic scheme worked like this: some local developer in Panama, the Dominican Republic, Florida, Canada, or some other location pays Trump, up front, for the use of his name and agrees to pay him a cut of every sale—not only of units but of things like hotel-room minibar items or, even, bathrobes. These projects typically require sixty per cent or more of units to be sold before construction gets under way. The same set of problems occurred in multiple projects. Many of the early units would be sold to shadow buyers—hidden behind shell companies. Donald Trump or, often, Ivanka Trump would deceive future investors by telling them that a much higher percentage of units had been sold than was factual. More investors pour money in, getting enough money into the project, often, to begin construction. Eventually, the project fails and goes bankrupt. Many of those investors lose all of their money. But the Trumps do not. They got paid up front and are paid continuously throughout until the day the project collapses. They are paid for their name and for overseeing the project, and, if the building is opened, the Trumps manage the property day to day, in exchange for hefty fees. |
Quote: | Many people lose in these schemes. Often a bank loses money that it has lent, or, alternatively, individual investors who bought bonds to support the project lose their money. The people who put a down payment on units often lose their down payments. When the whole thing collapsed, the Trumps, in many cases, stopped claiming—as they had during the rising period—that they were co-owners and developers of the project and began to state they were mere licensees who had no active involvement in the business. This is often untrue, as lawsuits have revealed that the Trumps were intimately involved with every aspect of construction and sales. |
Quote: | What is the Trump Organization? What is it good at? Where do its profits come from? It is becoming increasingly clear that much of the company’s business may have come from fraud. Daniel Braun, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney who specialized in fraud cases, told the reporters on the story, “You're describing the basic elements of a long-running and significant scheme to defraud investors. So is that the sort of thing that the F.B.I. and the Justice Department pay attention to? It is. It has a number of kinds of ingredients that you would typically see in an investigation or even prosecution of fraud.” |

I agree with you wholeheartedly there is a serious difference
The future harm saved were words vs future bombs I suppose
I've never been one to agree with "Collateral Damage"
What MBS did puts incredible fear into journalists who are our Infantry Soldiers defending freedom. But these random dead we create .. The total numbers of innocent killed is staggering
https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20180501-journalists-challenge-their-inclusion-on-a-us-drone-kill-list/
Quote: |
Two journalists have today filed federal court cases in the United States to challenge their inclusion on a classified US “Kill List”, Reprieve said in a statement.
Bilal Abdul Kareem, an American citizen and journalist working in Syria, escaped being killed by drone strike on five occasions, including two strikes on cars he was travelling in. Two additional strikes were executed on his independent news agency, On the Ground News, while he was working in the studio.
|
Quote: |
Bilal and Ahmed are journalists, not terrorists. All they are asking for is the chance to prove it. Yet, the government seeks to deny them that chance. In doing so, he is asking the courts to jettison the very value, which sets America apart from dictatorships and despots – due process,” Jennifer Gibson, head of Reprieve’s drones project, said.
“The courts must not let him. The executive should not be allowed to act as judge, jury and executioner unchecked. In a country founded on the rule of law, these men have a right to challenge the government’s decision to kill them,” Gibson continued.

Last couple weeks, in most of the tight Senate races, it felt like the GOP candidates were showing strength or trending positively......but this week there are signs that the Dem candidates in many of those races have gained their footing again to keep them tight.
I think the Senate and House will have majorities of less than 5 seats......obviously the House being a little more of a bold claim. |
