Quote: | The Nets' Vince Carter and four Pistons (Rasheed Wallace, Ben Wallace, Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton) are among the seven Eastern All-Star reserves to be officially announced today, The Post has learned. Tayshaun Prince is the only Piston starter not selected. Also on the East's reserve squad are two surprises, from struggling teams -- Paul Pierce of the Celtics and Chris Bosh of the Raptors. But in a huge surprise, the Wizards' Gilbert Arenas was left off the reserve squad in voting by Eastern coaches. -- New York Post[ |
This pisses me off. When will people realize that team success does not equate to individual greatness? Chauncey is definately an All-Star this season. Ben should probably go given the lack of centers. Rip is doing well, but he's not as good as Redd or Arenas. Rasheed doesn't belong in the All-Star game the way he's been playing.
Quote: | Jason Kidd, usually a fixture on the All-Star Game roster, will not be going to Houston in 10 days -- unless he is picked by Commissioner David Stern as a replacement on the Eastern squad. -- New York Post |
Kidd's probably not going, but he shouldn't be anyway. He's clearly not the player he once was, and the East is stacked with guards.
Quote: | Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony and center Marcus Camby were not selected as Western Conference All-Star reserves, an NBA source said. -- Denver Post |
It's a shame that Carmelo isn't going, but the West has too many good forwards. I'm a little surprised that Camby wasn't picked, since he was getting the early season hype from all the commentators. He was probably left off to make room for another forward, who the coaches managed to stick in the center position. |

I believe Rasheed will go in as a starter (fan voting) since JO is injured. |

It is a damn shame Rip got in over Arenas and Redd. Seriously, he is so over rated. He does nothing but run around picks that his team mates work hard to do. Him and Rasheed should definately be taken off, but Chauncey and Big Ben definately deserve to be there.
And Melo should of made the team over Ray Allen. Parker has been playing excellent and has carried a heavy load for the Spurs so it's not so bad that he got selected over Chris Paul.
But it seems as though coaches (or whoever does the reserve selections) always screw it up somehow. Like last year, Manu had no business being on the team. Hype will do that for you though. |
