Who's in and who's out for Team USA Basketball's 2016 Olympics roster?
Stay Tuned!
Quote: | Once the 12-man team is selected, the squad will hold a training camp in mid-July before taking part in exhibitions across the United States. The Olympics are set to begin on Aug. 5.
FIBA recently announced the draw for the Olympics, and while Team USA will be favored no matter what thanks to their abundance of talent, they also got placed in the much easier group. Speaking of that talent, here's a look at the 31 finalists in the player pool, plus one other notable. |

*LeBron James leaning toward skipping Olympics
Quote: | While James has not informed USA Basketball of his decision, team officials are operating with the expectation that it is unlikely James will be part of the team. |

*Kevin Durant confirms he will lead Team USA at the Olympics in Rio
Quote: | . Durant confirmed his inclusion at his KD9 shoe release on Monday, and a report from Marc Stein of ESPN.com adds several stars as locks to join him:
Durant confirmed Monday at his KD 9 shoe release in Austin, Texas, that he planned to play for the United States in Rio de Janeiro this summer.
"I'm excited about it. I'm looking forward to it," he said. |

*Russell Westbrook joins list of stars who won't play in Rio Games
No Westbrook, no Harden, no Aldridge, no Curry ..... SMH
Quote: | "After speaking with my family, I have decided to not participate in this year's Olympics," Westbrook said. "This was not an easy decision, as representing my country at the World Championships in 2010 and the Olympics in 2012 were career highlights for me. I look forward to future opportunities as a member of USA Basketball."
Westbrook joins a growing list of players who have pulled out of the original 31-player pool, including Stephen Curry (knee rest), LaMarcus Aldridge (finger), Chris Paul (hand), Anthony Davis (knee, shoulder) and John Wall (knee). |

*DeMarcus Cousins of Sacramento Kings earns spot on Team USA roster for 2016 Rio Olympics
Quote: | Cousins has never wavered in his interest in playing for Team USA in Brazil and has long been excited about the possible opportunity, a source told The Undefeated. A 6-foot-11, 270-pound All-Star, Cousins played on USA Basketball's gold-medal-winning FIBA World Cup team in 2014.
Cousins averaged 26.9 points and 11.5 rebounds for the Kings this past season. |

Just because Coach K is in charge I will still say whatever team they come up with will be better than the 2004 team. But its kinda looking bleak now. They might have to call Kobe? |

The NBA season/playoffs are too long and are such a grind. That's a problem when trying to get guys to play even more games during the summer. |

Harden also out as well. I know it's a longshot but maybe D'Angelo could have a chance to make the team now? |

Not surprising. Pau had the right idea. If I was making millions of dollars would I risk my health to get a 500 dollar medal? |

James Harden withdraws from consideration for 2016 Olympics
Quote: | Just hours after Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook announced his withdrawal from consideration for a spot on the final 12-man USA Basketball roster at the 2016 Olympics, Houston Rockets shooting guard James Harden did the same.
Just like Westbrook, Harden — who played a full, injury-free season — didn't give a specific reason for his withdrawal, but the sudden announcement left the NBA world asking the same question: Why?
“As a result of many difficult conversations with my family, the Rockets, and trusted advisors, I've notified Jerry Colangelo and Team USA that I will not be competing at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Brazil," Harden said in a statement. |

If a man gets bit it can stay in their sperm for like 5 years or something. And it causes the deformed babies. It's not safe at all to have the Olympics there. |

So whats the updated pool of players available? I don't expect Lebron to be on the team either as he has too many miles accumulated over the past couple of seasons. Plus he might want to hide over the summer after another Finals loss. |

Personally I think a whole bunch of athletes should cancel their appearance. It totally sucks and Brazil should lose the games. A-Holes!

If all these guys drop out it will be kind of cool to see if they have to call Kobe out to fill in a spot |

If you are planning to have a kid in the near future, you should seriously consider bypassing the 2016 games. |

Brian Mahoney: With USA PG numbers dwindling, Jerry Colangelo says he hasn’t ruled out adding another to roster that’s now just Kyrie Irving, Damian Lillard and Mike Conley. |
Quote: | Two-time National Basketball Association All-Star player Damian Lillard is yet to decide if he’s suiting up for the United States men’s basketball team for the Rio Olympics in August. “I have not thought about it yet,” said the Portland Trailblazers guard on Tuesday during a news conference at the Kerry Sports Gym in Taguig City. 2 hours ago – via Manila Times |

I don't want any of our players anywhere near Rio. I'm already terrified with Clarkson possibly playing for the Philippines down there |

So unpatriotic.
Given the rate of dropouts, our final team may be:
Devean George
Allen Iverson
Elden Campbell
Patrick Ewing
Becky Hammon (needed a 5th to have enough to field a team). _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Can't blame them. It's essentially risking not being able to have kids for 5 years, or potentially having one born with birth defects.
Not worth playing in the Olympics for |
