Roy Hibbert Will Have A Big Impact On Los Angeles Lakers
by George Middleton - rantsports.com

The Los Angeles Lakers didn’t have the offseason that they imagined. Instead of landing Jimmy Butler or LaMarcus Aldridge, they signed Brandon Bass, Louis Williams, and Roy Hibbert.

In the offseason the Lakers have lost Jeremy Lin, Wesley Johnson, Wayne Ellington, and Ronnie Price in the perimeter. They replaced the veteran role players with rookies D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Brown, and reigning sixth man of the year Williams.

In the frontcourt the Lakers lost Ed Davis, Jordan Hill and it appears Carlos Boozer won’t return either. The Lakers replaced the bigs with Hibbert and Bass. Bass is a good big to come off the bench, as he possesses a strong midrange game and plays hard.

Hibbert was the biggest acquisition in the offseason for the Lakers. The Lakers traded a future second round pick for the 7-foot-2 center. The Lakers will have to pay Hibbert a little more than $15 million for the season.

VIDEO: Roy Hibbert On Expectations, Playing With Kobe, Learning From Kareem
by Corey Hansford - lakersnation.com

Even though the Los Angeles Lakers failed to acquire one of their targets in free agency, the team recovered nicely in swinging a trade for former All-Star center Roy Hibbert. Hibbert will step in as the starting center in hopes that the change of scenery will help him regain his All-Star form.

Hibbert was introduced this week along with fellow acquisitions Lou Williams and Brandon Bass. Afterwards, Hibbert sat down with Time Warner Cable SportsNet and spoke on a number of topics including his expectations for this season and playing with Kobe Bryant.

Rounding Up Buzz on Nick Young and Offseason Plans
by Nick Roling - bleacherreport.com

Through a combination of sticking with what they have and buying low (or attempting to), the Los Angeles Lakers look better off when comparing the current roster on paper against last year's iteration.

D'Angelo Russell was a good get in the draft. Lou Williams provides solid scoring off the bench. And although he bucks the trend of smaller, guard-happy lineups, Roy Hibbert presents a nice value and upgrade.

It's never wise to say a team won't make further moves smack in the middle of summer, as things change in the Association on a dime. Los Angeles might not, though, which gives everyone time to catch up on rumblings detailing recent attempts and future perceived moves.

Let's take a look.

Which Acquisition Will Make The Biggest Impact?
by Corey Hansford - lakersnation.com

The Los Angeles Lakers introduced their three big off-season acquisitions this week as Roy Hibbert, Lou Williams, and Brandon Bass all made their first official appearances as members of the Lakers. While none of the three were the big names the Lakers (and fans) were hoping for, all three should play big roles for the team this season.

Roy Hibbert will immediately step in as the starting center and be the team’s best defensive presence in years. He has spoken about focusing strictly on defense and that will surely be his calling card. Brandon Bass could start or come off the bench, but regardless of his role, he is the perfect insurance policy in case Julius Randle struggles.

Lou Williams will bring the scoring off the bench the Lakers expected from Nick Young last season, but rarely got. With an extremely young backcourt, Williams brings a veteran presence and is also capable of making plays from time to time if need be.

The Lakers didn’t get their top targets, but the players they did bring in will all make an impact this season. The question is, who will have the biggest impact? We asked our panel of experts which of the three Lakers off-season acquisitions will make the biggest impact this season. This is what they had to say:

Los Angeles Lakers’ Nick Young And Lou Williams Are Intriguing Duo Off The Bench
by Brendan Patel - rantsports.com

The Los Angeles Lakers were unable to make any big signings this offseason, but they did sign the 2014-15 Sixth Man of the Year in Lou Williams. Williams signed a moderate, three-year deal, and although the Lakers have depth at guard, he will give them a quality scorer upon whom they can rely. Yet, it will be interesting to see how he fits in with the rest of the team, especially Nick Young, another high volume shooter off of the bench.

Williams is a scoring guard who operates best with the ball in his hands. He is an adequate shooter, and a good enough ball-handler to beat his man one on one. He does well in isolation situations, and can help jump start an offense. His creativity opens up lanes for others, and he has shown in the past that he can be a willing passer. The coaches will need to utilize his scoring talents, although there are several young players who need to be worked in as well.

VIDEO: Brandon Bass On Helping Young Players, Lakers-Celtics Rivalry
by Corey Hansford - lakersnation.com

The Los Angeles Lakers believe they have their power forward of the future in Julius Randle, but since he’s basically a rookie, however, the Lakers felt they needed to solidify the position. They did so in bringing in 10-year veteran, Brandon Bass.

After being introduced by the team on Wednesday, Bass sat down on Time Warner Cable SportsNet to talk about helping mentor the Lakers young players as well as his experience with the Lakers-Celtics rivalry.

It will be interesting to monitor the FO's moves if Swaggy's (The Black Hole) offense does not return. Swaggy's long ISOs drains away any movement while allowing the opposing D to load up since he will not be passing the ball.

A trade to the Cavs would be good for Swaggy because Lebron will provide wide open shots for him and if he doesn't pass the ball when someone else has a far better shot - The "King" will lay down the law.

On the Lakers, (outside of Kobe) ain't nobody going to tell Swaggy to pass the ball once in awhile

I am a little excited about the upcoming season, also trying to be a little cautious. However, I feel these group of guys with a chip on their shoulders might really want to make some noise this season. I want them to take it personal, play on BOTH sides of the court. That last 8th place could be their's for the taking. Lets GO LAKERS!!!!!

We could see some healthy competition between the two for playing time. Perhaps sharing the role will bring out the best in both of them.

Competition is always good

Going head-to-head will show who is the most productive

It will greatly help keeping the players sharp. Last couple years, all the injuries allowed players to relax (since they were short-handed) and not have that urgency to improve one's game - ala Showtime Lakers

If Swaggy is not producing, he will have placed his reservations to have a seat next to Scott in many games.

I think Lou will be more of a combo guard, even playing some spot minutes at PG. I think he will distribute a bit more, especially if Swaggy is also playing. Lou admitted that in Toronto they wanted him to gun, and not worry about defense/passing.

Swaggy PT will be dictated by how productive he is. Since he is a "one trick pony" whose main/only skill is making shots, if his shot is not falling and the ball is not moving when he is on the court - will we be looking forward to his antics on television when he scores more than 10 points.

Will we need Swaggy entertainment with his mugging of the camera and his new love since he has broken up with Iggy?

You can definitely see the weight Hibbert lost. Good on him.

Small factoid about Lou: defending spot up shooters accouted for almost a third of his defensive possessions, and he allowed PPP of .76, in the 93.6 percentile. His ability to close out shooters is elite, which is valuable not only because it was a weakness for LA, but because that is one of the higher PPP plays in the league.
