NBA.com Preview:
Quote:
Point guard or shooting guard, it doesn't really matter to Kobe Bryant. The Los Angeles Lakers star seems comfortable in either spot.

Bryant is trying to take on the roles of both scorer and ball distributor for the injury-plagued Lakers, who continue a four-game trip Monday against the Atlanta Hawks.

With point guards Steve Nash, Steve Blake and Jordan Farmar all sidelined, coach Mike D'Antoni has tried to shift Bryant into more of a catalyst role - which may suit the veteran a bit better as he continues to work his way back from a torn Achilles.

"We have to somehow find some wins and gut it out. It's not pretty right now," D'Antoni said. "We don't have a playmaker and we've got to get guys healthy and get Kobe well."

Bryant has scored at least 20 points twice in four games since returning, but he also had 13 assists - two shy of his career high - in a loss at Oklahoma City on Friday.

He took only six shots and scored four points against the Thunder, and he's had a hard time getting into a groove with 25 turnovers since re-joining the lineup.

"There is no secret formula that you can sprinkle out there," D'Antoni said. "He'll get more comfortable, then the guys will get more comfortable around him and then he'll do a better job."

Bryant had the best game of his comeback with a balanced performance Saturday against Charlotte, helping the team to its first win since his return with 21 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in an 88-85 victory.

"I don't know what I can and can't do," he said. "I'm just trying to measure it."

Given their offensive struggles, the Lakers (11-12) would benefit from some improved play by Pau Gasol, who has averaged 18.3 points on 51.5 percent shooting in his 13-year career. This season, however, Gasol is averaging only 14.4 points and shooting a career-low 41.8 percent. He's expressed frustration playing within D'Antoni's up-tempo offense, and hasn't scored more than 20 in a game since Nov. 27.

The Hawks (12-12) will try to take advantage of a Lakers defense that is allowing 103.5 points per game this season - the second-most in the NBA.

Though Atlanta is scoring just 99.6 per game, the Hawks have options all over the floor. Big men Al Horford and Paul Milsap lead the team in scoring with 17.7 and 16.5 points per game, respectively. Point guard Jeff Teague is averaging 15.9 points and 7.7 assists, while Kyle Korver has made at least one 3-pointer in a record 93 straight games.

Reserve Lou Williams scored a season-high 27 points Saturday at New York, but the Hawks committed an NBA season-high 27 turnovers in a 111-106 loss. The Knicks scored 36 points off the miscues.

Atlanta has generally been much more careful with the basketball, averaging 15.3 turnovers this season. Teague has been an especially solid caretaker with a 2.33 assist-to-turnover ratio.

The Lakers have won 10 of their last 14 meetings with the Hawks, who have gotten each of their four wins in that span in Atlanta.

But it's also winnable. Key is to stay home on Korver. He killed us last time. Stay on Korver and crash the boards. We can win this game.

Should be a win. Lou Williams is back this time and he is usually tough but Atlanta is nothing special. Plus with DeMarre Carroll, the Lakers will have someplace to hide/rest Kobe on defense.

Hey I want in please...

lakers and hawks will be close. First to a hundred wins.

lakers 103
Hawks 100

Kobe will I hope mix in the shooting from the elbows and the facilitating from there. Find just the right balance....

Kobe will go 8 for 17, with 1 three, and 5 of 6 from the line, for 22 points in 33 minutes. I hope to see no more than 4 To's, 7 dimes and 6 boards...

Looking forward to seeing Henry play a solid road game, and for Meeks to bounce back. Pau needs to step it up shooting % wise and on the boards. Hope Hill can get at least 25+ minutes...

No more dropping games we should win... Get this W and head back to .500. The West right now is wide open. GSW are free falling right now. We are 2.5 games our of 8th place. Every loss is a blow to our playoffs hope. If we can just hang in there till Farmar comes back, we should be ready for a good run.

Kobe finally gets his revenge against the Hawks after Dahntay Jones injured his ankle last season

http://atlantablackstar.com/2013/03/14/injured-kobe-bryant-wants-revenge-on-hawks-dahntay-jones/

Quote:
More than 30 minutes after his teammates had departed the Los Angeles Lakers’ locker room at Philips Arena in Atlanta Wednesday night, Kobe Bryant finally emerged from the training area, walking gingerly and looking angry.
It was more than the fact that his team that is vying for a Western Conference playoff spot lost to the Hawks, who played without injured starters Jeff Teague and Josh Smith. It was more than about being injured on the potential game-tying shot attempt. It was how he was and who caused the future Hall of Famer’s pain.
“I can’t get my mind past the fact that I got to wait a year to get revenge,” said Bryant, who claimed Jones invaded his space when he went up for a baseline 14-footer that would have tied the game in the final seconds. Bryant came down on Jones’ foot, turning his left ankle.

Just checked up, Jones is not even in the league anymore...Well at least Mr.Bryant can have his way with Atlanta to pay them back for last time.

Last game he played 32. If MDA successfully manages Kobe/Pau's min tonight, we should be fine. He needs to get them out of the game around the 8th or 9th min in the quarters. We have a capable bench (so good to say this!!!), they can hold their own.

But we don't have anyone to run the point besides KB. Xavier is not a point guard. These injuries are killing us!

Since this is one of the back-to-backs, we should start X over Meeks. I have a defense-first mindset and this should allow us to keep it competitive early and follow-up for most of the game with the bench mob.

Really MDA should learn from all the other games where his use of a weaker defensive starting lineup has lead to big leads by the opposition early. Though, I do like that he has Hill, Wes, Kobe, and Pau in the starting lineups. But I really think X should start for a more defensive presence, hands down.
