Marvel have announced that they will be producing four original series for Netflix, focusing on the characters of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
All 4 shows will get thirteen, hour long episodes apiece, screening through Netflix and, in a slightly Avengers-like fashion, culminate in a grand crossover mini-series event, The Defenders.
The full press release:
The Walt Disney Co. and Netflix Inc.today announced an unprecedented deal for Marvel TV to bring multiple original series of live-action adventures of four of Marvel’s most popular characters exclusively to the world’s leading Internet TV Network beginning in 2015. This pioneering agreement calls for Marvel to develop four serialized programs leading to a mini-series programming event.
Led by a series focused on “Daredevil,” followed by “Jessica Jones,” “Iron Fist” and “Luke Cage,” the epic will unfold over multiple years of original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York. Netflix has committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a culminating Marvel’s “The Defenders” mini-series event.

I don't know who Jessica Jones is but I'm guessing she, like the other three, are street super-heroes who were chosen because their shows wouldn't involve a lot of expensive FX or exotic travel for location shooting.
Never understood the appeal of Iron Fist. He's always seemed a bit suspect with his yoga pants and ballet slippers.

Why are they whipping out these B teams?
I guess because it's too soon to reboot any of the A-tier heroes.
and Fox still owns the studio rights to Marvel's other A-list heroes.
One thing that might help Netflix is ABC has set the bar pretty low with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Ghost Rider and Punisher are now back at Marvel, think they could be made into good shows and join the frey. _________________ The butter is getting hard.
Before the Iron Man movie dropped... he was NOT considered an A-Lister at all. I'd argue Daredevil was just as popular/known.
Not a huge fan of DD, or these other names, but my son Loves Iron Fist for some reason, so I'm excited to see how that goes. _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same."
Looks annoyingly dramatic and dark. The influence of Christopher Nolan's Batman films strikes again!
DD is very much a dark character. He is very similar to Batman in terms of his approach to crime. Bottom line: a show about DD should be dark and gritty IMO.

Yup, just like Punisher too- a character I hope gets added to the fold soon. Makes me want Spidey to have his own Netflix season so we can see DD, Punisher, Blade and other cameo. Spidey has a lot of encounters with others since they're all in NYC.

Looks like DD will be donning his red costume after all.

I used to like the Punisher when I was a kid. I remember this one Punisher and DD crossover, they were after a disgruntled employee who poisoned Tylenol bottles or something. Punisher caught up with him and about to toss him from the rooftop and the guy was yelling he has rights. Punisher said he had the right to bleed from the gutter, then DD showed up saying everyone deserves their day in court. Law vs vigilante justice. I thought that was a good story. If the story writing and character is acted well, this could be good. _________________ The journey to 17 begins...
I used to love comics , now I can't stand them now unless I see a justice League movie. So is it still worth watching green arrow on Netflix?
I think the show is awesome, and I held off for a while because it was a CW show. Honestly, it's probably the closest we'll get to seeing a live action Batman series. I don't know too much about the Green Arrow from the comics, but the live action version shares a lot of parallels with Batman. The show even uses villains that are primarily associated with Batman. I say give it a shot. I was hooked after watching the first season, and the second season was even better IMO.

My thoughts exactly. It's not connected to the DC movie universe though so no need to watch it just in anticipation for the JL movie because it's separate. It is an interesting show and since it has flashbacks, there's two stories going on at the same time which keeps you wanting answers.
