Steve Nash returned to the Lakers, who beat the Warriors 118-115 in overtime.
Nash missed the Lakers' past 24 games with a small fracture in his lower left leg.
Kobe Bryant had 34 points on 41 field goal attempts.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Steve Nash sliced through the lane, broke down the defense, and created shots for Kobe Bryant time and again, just the way he has for teammates throughout his brilliant 17-year NBA career.

So much for an adjustment period.

Bryant had 34 points and 10 rebounds, Nash finished with 12 points and nine assists in his first game in almost two months, and the Los Angeles Lakers rallied from 14 points down in the fourth quarter to beat the Golden State Warriors 118-115 in overtime on Saturday night.

Dwight Howard on health, reputation and Lakers' woes
Sam Amick, USA TODAY Sports3:32a.m. EST December 23, 20120 CommentsShare

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Dwight Howard hasn't been his old self with the Lakers, but he says there's a reason -- his health.
Howard also believes the Lakers need to make big changes on defense.
Repairing the reputation he developed after a turbulent end in Orlando is an ongoing process.
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Dwight Howard was sitting down on Friday, which is good considering the topics at hand.

His surgically-repaired back that still isn't right yet. The Lakers' defense that's in need of a heart transplant. The reputation that he's still trying to repair after the tumultuous path he took to get here.

It made all sorts of sense that Howard stayed seated for this weighty discussion.

While Steve Nash would make his return the following night, the two-time MVP point guard bringing his offensive wizardry back to the Lakers in a 118-115 overtime win at Golden State that was their fourth in a row, Howard's focus both then and now is on the other end. Entering Saturday night, this Lakers team that features a three-time Defensive Player of the Year (Howard), a nine-time all-defensive first team (Kobe Bryant), and a fellow former Defensive Player of the Year (Metta World Peace) was ranked an inexcusable 15th in defensive rating (102.2 points allowed per 100 possessions).

Nash leads Lakers' uphill battle

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Steve Nash sat on the bench and he wondered.

He’d been rehabbing his left leg for seven weeks after fracturing his fibula in just the second game of the Los Angeles Lakers' season. He had to watch from the sidelines as his team cycled through three head coaches and fell lower and lower in the standings.

Now here he was, back in his No. 10 jersey, sweat dripping from his freshly coifed hair as he looked at the scoreboard only to see his Lakers trailing the Golden State Warriors by 13 heading into the fourth quarter on Saturday.

He came back for this? Was it going to be just another road loss in a season that had already seen L.A. drop eight of its first 12 games away from Staples Center? Or did he and his teammates have something in them yet to be discovered?

“I wasn’t sure,” Nash said after the Lakers’ thrilling 118-115 overtime win over the Warriors. “Our team is still trying to figure ourselves out and we need games like this to hopefully build that reserve and that foundation. I wasn’t sure which way we were going to go tonight.”

Lakers 118 - Warriors 115 (Final)

Steve Nash finishes with 12 points and nine assists to the lead the Lakers (13-14) to an overtime victory on the road against the Golden State Warriors (18-10). Nash hit the Lakers' final basket with 16.9 left in the game, playing for the first time since a leg injury took him out on October 31.

The Lakers forced Stephen Curry into a miss to seal the victory, the Lakers surviving Dwight Howard's significant foul trouble and Kobe Bryant's poor shooting night (16-of-41).

Derek Fisher waived by the Dallas Mavericks

The Lakers don't have plans to sign a point guard, despite the availability of Delonte West and Derek Fisher. (Lawrence K. Ho / Los Angeles Times / April 12, 2011)

The Dallas Mavericks have waived veteran point guard Derek Fisher.

Fisher, who won five championship rings playing alongside Kobe Bryant with the Lakers, joined the Mavericks in late November. He started nine games, averaging 8.6 points and 3.6 assists while shooting 43.5% from three-point range (but just 35.4% overall).

Marc Stein of ESPN.com, who first broke the story, writes that Fisher's release was at his request, something that was in the works before Fisher strained his patellar tendon.

"In Tuesday's game against Philadelphia, I suffered an injury to my patellar tendon. The recovery time will be approximately two weeks," said Fisher in a statement to ESPN. "With this news and the difficulty I have been having being away from my family, I have asked the organization to waive me so I can return home."

A Rivalry Renewed (Warriors 115, Lakers 118)
POSTED BY ADAM LAURIDSEN ON DECEMBER 23RD, 2012 AT 1:06 AM | CATEGORIZED AS GAME SUMMARY | TAGGED AS CARL LANDRY, DAVID LEE, FESTUS EZELI, HARRISON BARNES, JARRETT JACK, KLAY THOMPSON, STEPHEN CURRY

This isn’t how Warriors fans wanted it to end. Up 14 in the fourth quarter, it looked as if the Warriors would punctuate their recent return to relevance with a resounding victory over their once and hopefully future rival. But two of the most clutch players of this generation weren’t going quietly into the night. Veterans Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash put on a fourth quarter and overtime clinic while the young Warriors made rookie mistakes. It wasn’t an ugly collapse on the Warriors’ part; it was a game lost at the margin, when little errors ultimately snowballed into a change of momentum and eventually a loss of the lead. Hopefully it was a learning experience for the relatively-untested Warriors. While they may have looked inexperienced and worn out with the game on the line, for most of the night’s fifty-three minutes, the Warriors looked like they belonged.

Steve Nash proves vital cog in return, fueling Lakers to gritty comeback win over Warriors

OAKLAND, Calif. – A very sore 38-year-old Steve Nash sat calmly with two towels covering most of his body and feet submerged in a frigid ice bucket. The 17-year NBA veteran may have looked worn out, but his play on the court was anything but sluggish.
Playing in his first game since Halloween, Nash provided a much-needed spark for the floundering Los Angeles Lakers, contributing a solid 40-plus minutes to power his team to a 118-115 overtime win over the lively Golden State Warriors.
"I got through it. It was only my third day of basketball in seven-plus weeks, so it was a lot. But I didn't feel too bad," said Nash, who finished with 12 points and nine assists.

Expect to see Derek in a Laker uniform in the very near future.

Fish wouldn't be a bad hire. He may be rejuvenated if he returns to LA and he can be had cheap. Wait, going back to my days as a salesman, he can be had inexpensively.

I think we can't get Fish back in Laker colors till atleast march or something because of a new rule involving traded players who get waived from their new team.
