Quote: | Source: Lakers interested in Jamison, O'Neal, Brand
The Lakers, says the report, are kicking the tires on a few of the backup bigs available, while continuing contact with their own free agent, Jordan Hill. On the radar include vets Antawn Jamison, Elton Brand, and Jermaine O'Neal. The hope is that any of the three could be added via veteran's minimum contracts, preserving their mini-mid level "in case a Howard deal goes down involving multiple players and they are left needing to fill a glaring void," writes McMenamin. "Not only is adding a backup big man a priority because signing Hill might not work out, but because Josh McRoberts and his expiring $3.1 million contract have drawn interest from other teams in potential Howard trade scenarios." |

Quote: | Ex-Laker Cedric Ceballos: I'd take Andrew Bynum over Dwight Howard
Former Laker Cedric Ceballos said he would prefer Andrew Bynum over Dwight Howard as the team's center.
"Right now, Andrew Bynum," Ceballos told The Times at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday evening. "Andrew Bynum has won championships. Andrew Bynum has the ability to get better. Andrew Bynum has the ability to score more than Dwight."
The Lakers are currently talking with Orlando about potentially acquiring the Magic's disgruntled center.
Howard averaged 20.6 points and 14.5 rebounds last season with the Magic. Bynum averaged 18.7 points and 11.8 rebounds with the Lakers. |

Jermaine O'Neal? Seriously?
I am happy this is coming from a reporter and not an actual Lakers source. _________________ Courage doesn't always roar.

Well we funded Troy Murphy's retirement season last year, and Theo Ratliff's the year before that.
Seems to be a trend, since letting DJ Mbenga go. |

Why do the Lakers continue to comb the geriatric wings for bench players. If they're looking for big men here's a couple of not so glamorous names: Luis Armundson (used to play with Nash in Phoenix) an unrestricted free agent. Billy "sky" Walker from the Knicks. these guys are still in there 20's played in the league at least 2 years, they're both young athletic and can be bought for cheap. IMO we R missing the hustle guys off the bench. We haven't had a good hustle guy since Turiaf, and Mad Dog Madsen. Check them out if you can find video on YouTube or something. |

Amundson is basically a clone of McRoberts. Who is behind Hill right now.
Brand is the only one of these guys worth a look--JO is done. |

What in the hell would any NBA team be interested in Jermaine O'Neal for? _________________ "It's just a job. Grass grows, birds fly, waves pound the sand. I beat people up."-The Greatest |

Quote: | Lakers Targeting Jamison, Brand, O'Neal
The Lakers are targeting Antawn Jamison, Elton Brand and Jermaine O'Neal as they look to improve the frontcourt.
The Lakers hope one of the three veteran bigs accept the veteran's minimum. The team also has the 'mini' mid-level exception, which begins at $3 million per year, but prefer to hold onto that in case a Dwight Howard trade is consummated.

Elton would be dope, I'd like that pickup. Of course he isn't the all-star he once was, but he'd be about the best PF we could get on a budget as a backup. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

Brand isn't going to make it past the amnesty waivers. It's a nice dream, but it isn't going to happen. |

Quote: | It wasn't all that long ago Kobe Bryant would have angrily swatted away any question about how and when his career would end.
On a good day, he'd come back with disdainful sarcasm. On a bad one, you'd get a sneer, then the iciest of silences.
Mortality has never been a comfortable subject.
Team USA's youngest stars come to Kobe Bryant for advice, then measure themselves against him on the court.
But now, at a moment when many feared he would begin a descent into an ugly cycle of rage and regret, Kobe Bryant seems to have gathered himself and decided on the persona he will assume for his final act.
"I'm the O.G.," Bryant said, laughing at himself, but also enjoying the image the words conjure up. "That's what these guys call me. They call me the O.G."
. . .
His end is closer and inevitable now. But much to the surprise of those who knew him in angrier iterations, he's neither denying nor fighting it.
"It's been 17 years. I probably got another three years left, max," Bryant said. "Seventeen years is a long time. A lot of people don't play that long." |

Scola was amnesty waived last night. I he clears waivers, I think he'd be the perfect back PF. He's basically a mini Pau-lite statistically speaking. |

Quote: | Source: Lakers target big men
Dwight Howard isn't the only big man on the minds of the Los Angeles Lakers' front office staff these days.
One source familiar with the trade negotiations said Thursday that calls between the Houston Rockets and Lakers discussing a three-way trade have cooled, while the Atlanta Hawks appear to be gaining steam in their pursuit of Howard.
With Howard's eventual destination still anybody's guess, the Lakers are turning their attention to adding a backup big man or two. |

Quote: | LAKERS NOTEBOOK: Goudelock sees the point of summer-league experience
LAS VEGAS - The Lakers kicked off summer league play with a 24-second violation, a missed shot, a turnover and soon enough a double-digit deficit in the opening minutes against the Golden State Warriors on Friday at the Cox Pavilion.
The Lakers finished with lots more turnovers, lots more missed shots and a lopsided 90-50 loss as Klay Thompson scored 24 points and Harrison Barnes added 23 for the Warriors, who had no such troubles with their offense.
Andrew Goudelock scored a team-leading 14 points for the Lakers, but made only 5 of 15 shots in 24 minutes, 53 seconds in a reserve role in his summer league debut. Although he was drafted in 2011, he missed out on a summer rite of passage. |

Quote: | Kyrie Irving, Kobe Bryant bet $50,000 on 1-1 game for charity
LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Kyrie Irving is too young to get into a casino here, but that doesn't mean he can't make a bet.
Apparently, Lakers veteran Kobe Bryant has challenged the Cavs' 20-year-old star to a one-on-one contest for $50,000, with the proceeds going to charity. No date, time or location has been set, nor is there any indication it will actually happen.
"It's on the table,'' Irving says in a hilarious trash-talk-filled video for DukeBluePlanet.com, now circulating on YouTube.
"I give him credit for his confidence,'' Bryant said. "It's 50 grand for my charity. Greatly appreciated. Easy money. Easy money.'' |
