Quote: | Derek Fisher is eager to win without the Lakers
Derek Fisher was disappointed to be traded by the Lakers, especially after he was led to believe he wouldn't be, but he is now on the cusp of making his greatest post-lockout wish come true in the 2012 NBA Finals.
Back when NBA players' union president Derek Fisher was trying to wedge that shoulder into the locked-out door to the 2011-12 NBA season, it was presumed that if the players and owners did ever arrive on the same side of the table, the greatest beneficiaries would be LeBron James and the Heat and Kevin Durant and Thunder.
After winding through this heavily trafficked road, here they indeed are, playing for a championship.

Quote: | Lakers-Celtics: Time To Rebuild The Rivalry
It is unquestionably the best rivalry in all of American sports. You can miss me with the myopic turf war of Yankees-Red Sox and the over-hyped history of Cowboys-Redskins. No two teams dominate the history of their sport like the Lakers and Celtics, a rivalry forged in championship tradition.
It’s also a rivalry that was largely dormant for more than a decade and could be headed back down that same road.
Last night’s Game 7 loss to the Miami Heat all but ended the Boston Three Party. The futures of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are all in doubt as far as their Celtic days go. Same goes for Pau Gasol and every other Laker not named Kobe Bryant.
For two years running the C’s and Lakers have lost out in the playoffs to the eventual champion of their respective conferences. That fact alone illustrates how these mighty rivals have fallen. They’re good enough to be invited to the big dance yet don’t have the legs to be the last standing when the music stops.
The reality is both franchises face some tough decisions in the coming months. Are they going to rebuild or retool? There are no easy answers.
Will the Celtics build around Rajon Rondo, a guard they were looking to deal before the season began? Will the Lakers make Andrew Bynum the foundation of their future, an immature and inconsistent performer? |

Quote: | Lakers' World Peace will play detective in TV movie
Controversial Los Angeles Lakers forward Metta World Peace will make his acting debut in a Lifetime Movie Network film based on Nancy Grace's novel, "The Eleventh Victim," Slam magazine and TV Guide reported.
The film is scheduled to be televised in the fall.
According to the TV Guide report, "Peace will set down his basketball to play Garlan Fincher, a Georgia detective who works very closely with Atlanta Assistant District Attorney Hailey Dean, played by Beverly Hills, 90210 vet Jennie Garth." |

- old article and b/report but it seemed interesting ! -
Quote: | L.A. Lakers: Can Mitch Kupchak's Carolina Ties Land Kendall Marshall?
Los Angeles Lakers may or may not be in the market for a point guard next season, but as general manager Mitch Kupchak could tell you, there is a pretty good one available in the 2012 NBA draft.
Kupchak played college basketball at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, which is the same school that is expected to have four players drafted in the first round.
Kupchak may not have a chance at landing Tyler Zeller, Harrison Barnes or John Henson, but point guard Kendall Marshall could be there for the taking if the Lakers really want him.
Marshall may be the purest point guard in the draft, and at 6'4", he would potentially give the Lakers the NBA's biggest backcourt when paired with Kobe Bryant.
There have been questions about Marshall's jump shot and his defense, but there are no doubts about his ability to penetrate the lane and distribute the ball. |

Quote: | Los Angeles Lakers: Best Free Agent Options This Offseason
Los Angeles Lakers are desperate to drastically upgrade the team this offseason, and because they seemingly always do, look for the Lakers to bring in some top-tier talent via free agency. Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchaks' targets should include Steve Nash, Kevin Garnett, Deron Williams and others.
Since the majority of the Lakers' cash is tied up in lucrative contracts, the team will not be able to simply go out and sign top free agents. Instead, the Laker brass will need to get creative and pull off a sign-and-trade in order land some elite players this summer.
As it stands, the largest contract the Lakers can offer a free agent is a "mini" mid-level exception worth $3 million. Obviously, a sign-and-trade is absolutely necessary. |

It's hard to find much news on the Lakers, so you guys will have to tolerate some Bleacher Reports now and then ! At least until draft day. I expect us to get better news once we're closer to the draft and then free agency period.
Also feel free to add anything you guys see as news. This isn't exclusively my thing, we all can contribute to this and make it a team effort. |

My pleasure, you guys.
If any of you find additional news I missed just please post it in the daily news thread. I hope we can make one and update it daily.
Hopefully together we can keep the tradition Phil began many years ago a strong feature of our community. |

Quote: | Kobe focuses on knee, future as OKC rises
It was only three-plus months ago that Kobe Bryant shook his head in Oklahoma City during the final moments of a Lakers loss and made an uncharacteristic reach into his past in order to build himself up in the present.
Bryant responded to some ardent on-court celebration from James Harden by talking down to Thunder upstarts Kevin Durant and Harden.
