Um, the Lakers only have to play 1 team from the East. And they still own tiebreaker over Dallas. |
And they own tiebreaker over Celtics too. |

Checked the score, Lakers were leading 101-100. Check the final score and it's 120-106 which tells me that OKC went on a run of 20-5 to end the game.
Now I believe the 9 games in 14 days is having an effect on the team but that I have a hard time accepting, bring on SAS and a completely different focus and if they win that, hopefully that will calm everyone down.
Because losing that way isn't going to stop anyone moaning about the way the Lakers are playing. _________________ "This is a comptitive city. Well all that talk that we may have possibly peaked too early during the 17-1 run has been officially over for a while now.
I wonder if will bring in another Huge 16 wins come playoff time??? _________________ "Tryin' to get that Kobe number, One Over Jordan"

I'm wearing blue sneakers today. The Lakers are 35-0 when I wear them. |

I just may have to go through the thread and jot down the names of the psychics who've already seen the outcome of the 2011 playoffs.
Jeez boys...get a grip. I hope no one's crying over this. Yeah, this loss hurts a lot for me as well. But any talk of "oh Lakers just flat out suck" "They're just not that good" "The last two years were a fluke" is plain ignorant/stupid. This team doesn't "suck"...they are however, so mentally checked out of the regular season. Pissing and moaning from fans means s&*$. Yeah, no PJax team has ever had a 5 game losing streak and gone on to win the title...but PJax coached teams that went 15-1 after the all star break also went on to win the NBA title. Stats like that are taken with a grain of salt...nothing more, nothing less.
I still have Lakers making it back to the Finals and winning it all. You negate HCA by stealing one game on the opposition floor and protect yours (Lakers postseason home record is solid these last three years). For all we know, Lakers could go on an epic postseason run and top the 2000-2001 playoff run (remember that squad finished with a 56-26 record). I still have all the faith in the world because they've earned it with 3 trips to the Finals and 2 chips to show for it. Underestimating the Lakers/Kobe (our fanbase is even guilty of it) in the playoffs has usually ended up badly for the opposition.

^ 2001 team went on a 8-0 run to end season and had all the momentum going in. Hardly comparable but it could happen. |

It wouldn't surprise me if this team wins it all, but a 15-1 record (or 16-1 these days) seems unrealistic to me. If this team runs into Boston or Miami in the finals, I would be surprised if they don't lose at least a couple of games. Also, Shaq was still at the top of his game back then, and Kobe was younger and more dominant. I'd take those two back in 2001 over Kobe and Gasol today.
A better indicator of how they will do is the last 3 postseasons. LA lost 7 games three years ago, 7 games two years ago, and 7 games last year. |

If Phil Jackson continues to let the bench play until the 5 minute mark of the 4th quarter every game in the playoffs, he's gone senile. I'll give him a break since it's the pre-season right now. The Lakers right now have arguably the worst bench outside of Lamar Odom. |

They also won 19 games in a row in both 2000 and 2001. This team can't even seem to win 10 games in a row.
This team still should be the favorite though. They can get those 16 wins in the playoffs. It just won't be as easy as it was for the 2001 team. |

It also helps they had Kobe in one of his best seasons and Shaq with an MVP caliber season. |

I felt we lost this game in the 4th, when the bench had a 5pt lead but Phil kept them in instead of putting the starters back. He let the bench let the lead slip and it was too late for the starters to add on to it. |
