I've been thinking about what the best tv show I've ever seen is, and everyone seems to have a different opinion. So, what is, in your opinion, the best show to grace the television screen?

In my opinion, it's The Wire. I just got done watching this and it's so deep in terms of characters and storylines. While it's probably the most complicated drama I've ever seen, it captures American life to a tee and shows the corruption viewed in every single facet of society.

I've only watched the first season of The Wire. Personally I'd put Sopranos up there.

I've been meaning to watch Sopranos but I've already seen the ending due to the amount of criticism it got. Still worth it?

Definitely worth it. Try to find them online though if you can because buying the box sets on DVD will set you back a good $300+. If you like The Wire you'll like Sopranos a lot. There's so much that goes on throughout the series that even seeing the ending won't make it hard to enjoy at all.

Sopranos > The Wire.

Both are good though, and neither over-ran their welcome and ran out of ideas or got stupid like a lot of other shows do.

The Wire.

Although Breaking Bad, if the next season or 2 is like the last 3, could pass it.

I've been waiting patiently to call Breaking Bad one of the best ever. It sounds premature since it's such a relatively new show, but it just never has a dull moment. As you said, one or two more seasons of such greatness and it'll be right up there in my eyes.

To anyone who hasn't seen it: I'd also advise checking out Archer on FX. There's only been one season but you can watch all of the episodes online at FXs website for free in high quality. It's honestly one of the funniest shows I've ever seen. Definitely has the potential to be a great one.

I'd throw Curb Your Enthusiasm and Da Ali G Show for me if we're talking comedies.

This list is old, from 2002, but I agree with their #1. Their top 10 excluding All in the Family and Letterman is solid, but 11-20 is a mess.

Quote:
Top 20 from TV Guide

* 1. Seinfeld (NBC)
* 2. I Love Lucy (CBS)
* 3. The Honeymooners (CBS)
* 4. All in the Family (CBS)
* 5. The Sopranos (HBO)
* 6. 60 Minutes (CBS)
* 7. Late Show with David Letterman (CBS)
* 8. The Simpsons (Fox)
* 9. The Andy Griffith Show (CBS)
* 10. Saturday Night Live (NBC)
* 11. The Dick Van Dyke Show (CBS)
* 12. Bonanza (NBC)
* 13. The Lucy Show (CBS)
* 14. Full House (ABC)
* 15. Bewitched (ABC)
* 16. Lassie (CBS)
* 17. Mork & Mindy (ABC)
* 18. The Addams Family (ABC)

That's a pretty embarrassing list to be honest.

I can get Seinfeld getting #1, even though that wasn't exactly my era. I watch re-runs of it from time to time, and even now it's pretty damn entertaining.

60 minutes at #6 is indefensible.

I'd go with Seinfeld, followed very closely by Get Smart!
