It's the Zone.

It has been Lakers' headache since 2004.

Phil always underestimate the zone. Always.

If a team like Phoenix (not known for great defense) can cause this many problems for LA, I can only imagine what Boston can do.

I guess if we want to think optimistically, lakers need to be tested.. zone and teams that can rotate faster gives lakers problem.. if they don't figure it out now, I'd rather the lakers lose to the Suns than being manhandled by Boston. Can't take that again.. the team hasn't had a sense of urgency all year, that extra killer attitude.. are they going to change?

I would agree. I would rather see them struggle with a tough defensive scheme now and hopefully find a way to adjust to it than be absolutely shell shocked at what the Celtics are doing. The thing that initially concerned me about the Phoenix matchup is that their defense would be so poor that the Lakers would end up getting away with sloppy offense and still winning the games. With the Sun's use of zone, this team will probably be forced to think how to react to it if they want to advance to the Finals.

not that often Odom goes for 6 pts, 6 rebounds, 6 fouls in 36 minutes and Lopez goes for 20. It was a fluke game just like Dragic scoring 20 in San Antonio. They're bound to happen and they happened tonight. We will be fine. Most of the people and myself expected lakers to win in 5 and we are on track

Lakers chucked 32 threes, made 17 TO's, Suns had 22 more FTA's, and Odom, Artest, and Bynum all played bad. How did the Suns not turn this into a blowout? That is the real question.

Phoenix wasn't going to get swept, and this was the one game they were most likely to win. Their first home game in ages, the crowd (and the refs) behind them, a "must win" game. I'm surprised it wasn't a blowout.

Before the series started I predicted the Lakers would win the series in 5: W-W-L-W-W

You don't even have to look other place.

42-20

Done deal.

Remarkable that it was still a game with 3 minutes to go.

Not sure if it is possible for 5 players to come off the bench and play actual minutes (~70 minutes total) and play so poorly.

How the hell can we lose when their bench gives them so little???

We shot may too many threes and badly; had way too many turnovers; we got flummoxed by their zone; our bench sucked too.

They outplayed us.

HOLLINGER:

@johnhollinger LA: 69 points in 1st and 3rd quarters. 25 in 2nd and 4th. Not sure I've ever seen such a disparity. about an hour ago

inconsistency, our bench and some starters played like crap too (Artest, Odom, Bynum)

It initially surprised me since the only way I thought the Suns had a chance in this series was to shoot lights out. But then I remembered that we've had fairly sizable FT differentials in some of these games (usually not in LA's favor), so I really shouldn't be shocked if that ends up contributing to a loss.

Because their bench shot 3-21, and 0-11 from 3 pt land. Thus bringing to fruition my original question: How did the Lakers NOT F'ING WIN THIS GAME?????

Is it just me or does Robin Lopez look like Richard Ramirez aka The Night stalker?

I got a little creeped out there for a sec.

His little elbow to Fishers head was cheap and unsportsmanlike.

Last, 42 FT attempts pretty much says it all.

Game 4 will be about who imposes their will.

I would like to think that the next ref crew will see to it that the game is called a bit more even.

It's rare to come out of a loss feeling confident but that's how i felt after this one. We were pretty close throughout the game and although i can say it was the free throws that were our demise, the lack of support from the other starters not named Bryant, Gasol and Fisher was another reason why we lost. After tonights game, i believe we'll take it in game 4. I just hope Orlando hasn't given up and will atleast fight for a win tomorrow in Boston. I want that series to end at as many games we need to end ours so Boston' doesn't get more rest than we do.

Zone - our players did not attack it with purpose. Hence the 17 turnovers and quick 3 pt shots. When we did rotate the ball to get the open shot, our players were not ready.

Poor help defense - slow rotations by our bigs. Odom and Artest should be taking the charge and draw the offensive foul, especiall when Amare just bull dozes his way through.

Practice the offense, define what the weakpoints in the Suns zone are, and shore up the help defense on Amare and we should wrap up a Game 4 win.
