The problem with Kobe is he plays lazy defense and his "effort" on that end has infected the team.
I don't think it matters if he comes back in or not, Shannon Brown will at least compete at both ends. |
So, Shannon Brown should start? |
I know it isn't popular around here, but Kobe's defense has tailed off to the point where his offensive contributions are not getting enough separation for the team.
He is the team leader. He needs to lead by example on both ends of the floor, not just offense.
His D is not only lazy, his fundamentals are horrible. Other guys see that and don't bust tail either.
If it is any consolation, I expect he will turn up the intensity with the bright lights on for the Christmas Game. Unfortunately, all the other lazy efforts are going to leave the Lakers needing to win road playoff games this year to advance. |
Yep. He leads by example, and his defensive example is non-existant. |
ignorant comment.

Everyone on the floor needs to exert max defensive effort.
Pop in a San Antonio game, tell me that Kobe is exerting as much defensive effort as Ginobili this season.
Watch Boston play. Tell me Kobe is playing fundamental defense as well as Ray Allen.
I am a Laker fan and love Kobe. But bad D is bad D, he is our leader and needs to start leading by example on the defensive end of the floor. |
but earlier you just said he isn't a good defender. how's a bad defender supposed to lead by example on defense ?? |
He didn't say he can't defend, just that he doesn't always put out the effort. |

So do you think Kobe will just wake up Xmas morning, happy about a beatdown by Milwaukee and go into the Staples like nothing happened?
Believe it or not, some of these guys have some pride. They are not champions in June without a bit of heart.
If you checked the Houston-LA playoffs a few years back, for every beatdown they got by 15 or more, they came back to win more often than not. |

Bingo.
People want to pretend that he is a good defender.
He isn't.
That said, at least he plays offense. Guys like Artest and Fisher are brutal on both ends right now. And I think Pau's defense is even worse than Kobe's which is not good. |
your comments for the passed two or so quarters have been calling kobe out. |
He doesn't have Sasha to comment on anymore. |
Sure, blame me!
I am sorry if my posts hurt.
Watch San Antonio and Boston play. Then tell me Kobe is defending as hard as they are right now. |
you may have a point there...buy Boston and San Antonio have different defensive schemes compared to the Lakers...notice how we've always had problems with the pick and roll and those 2 teams do not? yeah, there's a reason why. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. Yeah, thats working out well. I'm on vacation and was looking forward to this game. I shoulda went out instead. (bleep)! |
Uh he was playing well offensively until Phil decided to bench him for an inexplicably long time. They can get away with it when they're leading but not when they're trailing. He is so off rhythm every time he comes back into the game in the 4th quarter, after that looong break. |
True, and I don't just blame Kobe for this. It's the whole team but he needs to step up and play D and maybe the rest will follow. _________________ "Time wounds all heels". -John Lennon |

^Exactly.
Let me clarify.
I know Kobe CAN defend.
But him and Pau look like they can't even be bothered with defense right now.
The comparison to the guys on San Antonio and Boston is obvious to anyone who watches basketball.
Does that mean he won't defend hard in the playoffs? No.
Does that mean the Lakers can't still win the title? No.
But are the Lakers in general and Kobe individually playing acceptable defense right now? Absolutely not. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |

THat is true.
This loss has zero to do with Lakers.
You see blake, barney, Paul, Fishers all made many stupid mistakes. Those mistakes had zero to do with Kobe. |
Yeah, let's call out Kobe--who was easily the best player for the Lakers on both ends--and not focus on the (bleep) play of Pau, Odom, Fisher, etc.

I guess I should say he is an inconsistent defensive player.
In my opinion, he is an outright bad defensive player but I am willing to soften it and say inconsistent to make the nut huggers happy. _________________ Love, Laker Lanny |
