would be an absolutely incredible team. the above roster leaves 11 players, but we'd obviously be adding someone with a vlad and/or walton trade. the rest of the roster would be filled out with 2nd round draft picks, LLE or vet's min.
Thats probably the only way we would get him. The Kings aren't just going to make a trade with the Lakers that would help them win a championship. Not unless they get new owners this offseason.

Pro's and Cons of signing Artest
Pro's
Ron Hates KG yelling all the time
Ron Loves Lamar and Kobe and vice versa
Ron Plays Defense
Ron Can Score
Ron has played in the triangle offense
Ron is a competitor
Ron is agressive
Con's
Ron forgot to feed his dogs
He raps
I say he and the Lakers should hookup.
Christie made sense. He says if Artest Opts out and takes the MLE for 1 year for 6 million and then he gets a bonus of a million for winning the championship that's 7 million and a championship. Then he becomes a very valuable free agent. _________________ SCHROEDER/CARUSO/COOK

Yes, it's been said a thousand times that Dr. Jerry Buss doesn't want Ron Artest in the Lakers organization - that Phil wants him badly but Buss over rules him.
Can someone provide a link to a quote, statement or article where this legend was born? Every time I see it mentioned in a thread I ask for a link but I never get a response...
Mbenga got suspended for going into the crowd. Artest was attacked. _________________ SCHROEDER/CARUSO/COOK

Mbenga went into the crowd to protect someone else. Ron went into the crowd because he has no sense. _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks
Man, if Artest were to sign a one year 6 mil MLE deal it would be a win win for him, and the Lakers would be so incredibly stacked. I couldn't see them losing a game the whole season.
Bynum
Gasol
Artest
Kobe
Fisher
With Odom playing back up 4 and 3, Gasol sliding over to the 5 when Bynum needs a rest?
Do you see the little pansy running away from Ben Wallace? He's only "tough" when he can get off a cheap shot, or beat on a fan-boy. _________________ <

The whole Dr. Buss not wanting Artest is old news. Trading for him and signing him are 2 completely different things. Also, we were not a contender at the time and if I recall correctly, Artest was just coming off his yearlong suspension. I think he's been a pretty good citizen since then.
Do some of you not remember we had JR Rider and Rodman in Laker unis? Neither of them were viewed as the missing piece to the puzzle, but there is precedence of bringing a player like that aboard. Neither of them had the impact that Artest undoubtedly would have on this team's defense and toughness. And this team is very close to a title.

I'm calling urban legend on the "Dr. Buss not wanting Artest" thing anyway...I can't find a link of a quote and I'm betting it came from an "inside source" if from a "source" at all - I can't even find that.
Unless someone can provide a link as a refresher and prove it was ever said, it need not be mentioned ever again...

So what you're saying is that we should embrace the idea that there's a precedent for bringing head cases to this team in order to justify the acquisition of Artest, but when it comes to evaluating the soundness of the decision, the previous results should be ignored because of course it's going to turn out differently this time? _________________ Game recognize game, Granddad. - Riley Freeman, The Boondocks
Perhaps if he and LO are boys... they can ask LO to take the hit to cover Ron's K
Give LO and Artest both $50 million over 5 years and lets go win some championships!!! _________________ Summer League player to watch: Bryant Dunston. 6'9" 250lbs.

Then he should have hit the paper cup and beverage back. He should NOT, however, have gone into the stands and just start wailing on people, especially since he wasn't even sure WHO threw the paper cup at him. He merely guessed and attacked. There is no scenario in which that's okay, and honestly, any suggestion to the contrary is an attempt to justify thuggish behavior because some want him on this team.
That doesn't mean the fans didn't deserve retribution, but you can have a person jailed for battery for throwing stuff at people, believe it or not.
Having said that, it doesn't mean people don't deserve forgiveness, but let's not act blind to a lot of issues that come with Artest, either. It's why the Lakers wouldn't trade Odom for him, or any real talent - it's just too risky. You don't trade that kind of talent for a plyer who sometimes shows up to work, waits last minute before a game and then simply tells you that he's not feeling well and doesn't want to play; let alone the myriad of other idiotic antics he's pulled.
If he walks over here for the MLE, you take the risk. Other than that, no thanks ... unless it's for Walton or Vlad.
